The year is 1973. The sound of a lone, ethereal saxophone drifts over the Roosevelt Island promenade, while a series of accidents plague a midtown construction site. The citizens of Manhattan take no notice of these events, let alone think they are connected.
Legacy>Unbound>Convergence>Deception>Epiphany Blackwell
I absolutely adore Blackwell series. Feels like I love every character AND their voice actor. Story is great in all of the Blackwell games so give it a try! Though it's not widely popular I am GREATFUL that I stumbled upon this gem. Thank you, Wadjet Eye Games, for a story that I still remember in my heart even though I played it like 8 years ago. Final Score: 8/10
Blackwell Unbound is a moody, sassy, bittersweet ghost story. There are only two cases to tease apart, but the puzzles still scratch that adventure game itch. Great VA overall even if the Countess is a little overdramatised. Lauren and joey's dynamic perfectly encapsulates the light-hearted jabs between good friends (or lovers). The soundtrack is exquisite - particularly that farewell sibling saxophone duet. My introduction to Thomas Regin's gorgeously morose music comes from Unavowed, and Blackwell Unbound really cements him as one of my favourite composers.
Jednocześnie daje wgląd w obserwowanie stosunku Joey'ego Mallone do jakże innej charakterem bohaterki i współtowarzyszki paranormalnych śledztw.
I found this game to be weaker than its predecessor, but not without its merits. Obtuse but simple puzzles, constant backtracking, obvious notes going untaken, repeated identical interactions being needed for a single conversation on a single topic, and obvious interactions being non-options all made this a bit more frustrating than the first game, but once I got into the rhythm, it wasn't that bad, only needing to check the walkthrough twice early on. The places it shines are able to mostly redeem it, thankfully. Lauren is a strikingly different character from Rosa, a borderline-suicidal woman who lives her entire life as a medium, having abandoned her ties to herself, constantly chasing away utter numbness with enough nicotine to kill a horse, to the point that killing someone can barely break through the nothingness. She cuts a compelling figure, and the air of tragedy and doom hangs over her even if you haven't played the game before, which promises her story an unhappy ending.
The Countess is a far better villain than that of the previous game- being thematically tied deeply to Lauren, as another medium. Lauren's fear of the future- of what's left of her withering into insanity, of being abandoned, of being truly alone- is fully embodied by the mad Countess. In the franchise's narrative, this game also raises questions of the relationship between guide and medium that the future games will have ample opportunity to resolve.
The game was notably shorter than the first, which I don't mind, but it made the proportion of time backtracking and each individual frustration took up all the more difficult to bear. Still, I am now invested in Lauren. I know how it ends for her- I just want to know why.
Second part of the Blackwell series, the plot thickens. It was quite interesting, though I do have my problems With the game, minor as they are. The main problem is that I am bad at this kind of puzzle solving. I did resort to using a walkthrough rather quickly, basically because I wanted to continue with the story faster. The story is really quite nice and interesting, lot of subtle little humane details that make the world more Vivid and vibrant. Really lived in world. Also the music was REALLY damn good. A strong continuation, can't wait to continue.
Sitting in a 70s office, ballpoint in hand, ghost at my shoulder. He whispers names, I jot them in my notepad. Boss thinks I’m filing reports, I’m booking dead people. Soundtrack sounds like a radio no one touched since disco died. Finished in one night, now hunting for wide lapels and my grandma’s spirit.
Hells, while the plot is interesting, the GAME itself is likely the single worst not just in the series, but in the genre. It has so many things done on PURPOSE just to annoy the players, it's ridiculous. More backtracking than the old phone snake game? Check Having to type names from memory to query the phone book despite them being in the notes -- and on PURPOSE making notes inaccessible at that point? Check Having to do same action several times in a row to progress? Check Giving an essentially "can't do that" response when doing that action for the first time? Check I am sure I forgot some other things, too.
quiero un joey
I still love these games.
