While a bit uneven at times, its so cool that a game trusts you enough to allow you to solve cases wrong, and give weight to actually investigating and deducing. Sadly I don-t like most of the decisions made about the main characters, the dramatic core and drive of the overarching plot... The companion that-s with you at all times becomes immediately obnoxious and, honestly, just kinda evil.
I found the writing too distracting to enjoy the game. I think this may have been a case of some talented people getting together to make a game and for some reason allowing a social "activist" to write it, which unfortunately is too often the case but I guess isn't surprising considering when this was released. Within the first half an hour, you're confronted with commentary on racism, misogyny and homophobia in very "on the nose" ways that feels inorganic and like someone is ticking checkboxes. Not what I'm looking for when trying to relax and enjoy a simple point and click game.
I recommend the game, but be very aware that it is neither a classic point&click adventure with an inventory where you combine items, nor is it really a detective game where you need to solves cases by cleverly combining clues. At it's core it's more of a walking simulator or interactive movie. You talk to characters which in turn unlocks new locations, new characters, new dialog options, which in turn unlocks new ... and so on. I still recommend the game, because for what it is, it's good. I was never bored, the cases are good, sufficient enough locations and characters appear, and the backstory makes the main character become interesting and real. So if you're in the mood for long dialogs and something like an interactive story, go for it. I enjoyed it.
Women and black people are oppressed, yet despite all odds being against them, they are capable and great. Because of course they are. Hamfisted messaging aside, it's a yapping simulator. Paper thin characters talk _a lot_. Maybe change my review if I bother finishing it.
A very good point and click adventure game, that taps into nostalgia for early days in the genre, but with a lot of modern QOL features. These do tend to mean puzzle solving isn't particularly difficult but there are a myriad of ways to solve a case and get the clues you need. A particularly cool touch is that you can get the culprit wrong in case and the game keeps moving on but certain characters will think lesser of you and my even hinder your progress in other cases. The story was quite intriguing and had me hooked throughout, although I feel like it fell slightly through at the very end. The world-building and atmosphere were great though. Some minor gripes are that sometimes you have to click on things twice to add them to your inventory and sometimes you might forget to do so and then find yourself at a completely different location, only to realize you have to go all the way back to pick up something that you missed. For the most part, voice acting was very good, especially the two main leads. Some other npcs weren't the strongest but overall I liked the voice direction. There are several faults or weak points, but if you are wanting a point and click game that has an intriguing plot, good mysteries, and a good cast of characters, this is one worth checking out.
Bugs and all, this is a really good mystery game. The voice acting is really outstanding and the stories are a really solid mixture of mysterious and accessible. I never felt an ending was unearned. There were many sticky finicky bits, mostly things that I didn't realize I needed to return to multiple times, but that's not the worst ethic to have in a mystery game. Lots of things could be better for quality of life though, like indicating where there is or is not more content to see.
this is such an awesome game, the investigations give you enough freedom to mess around and go your own way, the main story is extremely engaging, and the voice acting! last but not least, I adore this setting tremendously, it's such a great concept executed at the top level!
I had to stop playing because Bill was so annoying.
I was so relieved when he died, but then he comes back as a ghost!! Immediately exited at that point.
muito bom um jogo POINT CLICK D INVESTIGAÇÃO. pena q e curto demais
I bought this game a while ago when I was on a big point and click binge but just recently got around to playing it and oh my god. I love the approach to the detective point and click style. I always love puzzles, but I liked that this one focuses more on the dialogue and investigation of your surroundings. I grew to like Miles, as dumb as he can be
(JUST TALK TO YOUR WIFE OH MY GOD DUDE)
, and I really liked Bill's character and his commentary. Performance wise, it ran great. I frequently switch monitors between my regular 24inch and my 55in TV and the graphics scaled nicely between the two. I will say that I got stuck on one case because of certain dialogue options (I love to exhaust all dialogue in every game I play), so that was annoying. I'm not a frequent saver, so I had to restart one or two cases (SAVE OFTEN). And in case 5 I came across a bug - to avoid spoilers I'll just say talk to people before investigating. I got stuck in a hard lock investigating first before talking to one of the NPCs. But other than that, I enjoyed the narrative, the art style, and how everything ties together. The end definitely left me feeling some type of way. Definitely recommend if you don't mind a game with a focus on dialogue and not many puzzles.
