The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV is the climactic finale of a sprawling saga that spans not only the Cold Steel subseries but ties together multiple storylines from across the Trails universe. Developed by Nihon Falcom and localized by NIS America, the game is both a love letter and a massive undertaking meant for fans who have followed the franchise through its intricate political intrigue, character-driven narratives, and layered combat systems. As the concluding chapter of a narrative arc that began several titles ago, Cold Steel IV is packed with emotional payoffs, deep lore, and strategic gameplay, but it also leans heavily on the player's prior knowledge—making it an unforgettable experience for longtime fans while being nearly impenetrable for newcomers. The story picks up immediately after the dramatic ending of Trails of Cold Steel III, with protagonist Rean Schwarzer captured and the world on the brink of all-out war. The game wastes no time throwing players into crisis, as Class VII—both old and new—reconvenes to mount a resistance against the encroaching threat of the Empire’s Ouroboros-backed militarization. What follows is a narrative densely packed with political tension, character arcs, betrayals, reunions, and massive revelations that reach back to earlier entries in the Trails in the Sky and Crossbell arcs. Cold Steel IV is less about introducing new ideas and more about resolving years of buildup. It meticulously ties up dozens of plot threads while still leaving enough room for future Trails games, and that level of narrative ambition is both its greatest strength and, at times, a potential weakness due to the sheer volume of information players are expected to absorb. The character roster in Cold Steel IV is enormous—arguably too large—but each character, from primary party members to recurring side figures, is given time to shine. The emotional stakes are high, with many characters confronting their pasts, forging new alliances, and making difficult sacrifices. Rean, as the central figure, undergoes significant development, especially as he grapples with the consequences of his powers and the burden of leadership. However, the game also does a commendable job giving narrative space to others, including newer members like Juna and Altina, as well as veterans like Estelle, Lloyd, and members of the original Class VII. For fans who have invested dozens of hours in each game leading up to this, the emotional payoff is substantial—rarely does a JRPG franchise invest this much in continuity and character growth across multiple games. Gameplay-wise, Trails of Cold Steel IV refines and builds upon the turn-based combat system that has been gradually evolving since the first Cold Steel entry. The battle system is strategic, fast-paced, and highly customizable. The use of “Brave Orders” returns, allowing players to activate powerful team buffs that can change the tide of battle, while the “Break” and “Delay” mechanics continue to offer tactical depth. Link attacks, arts, crafts, and S-Crafts are all present and improved upon. The Orbment system remains as complex and flexible as ever, allowing for deep build customization. Boss fights, especially later in the game, require careful planning, thoughtful party composition, and effective use of the game’s many tools. It’s a satisfying, cerebral combat system that rewards experimentation and attention to synergy between characters. Exploration and pacing in Cold Steel IV follow the same structure as previous titles, with a mix of free days, dungeon crawling, side quests, and narrative events. While the game is relatively linear in its storytelling, it allows enough room for players to take breaks, pursue side content, and bond with party members. The bonding events, mini-games, and character-specific story moments add layers of depth and humanity to the cast, making the world feel lived-in despite the looming threat of apocalypse. However, the sheer volume of dialogue and exposition can sometimes bog down momentum, especially during scenes that are heavy on lore recaps or philosophical debates. Players familiar with Falcom’s storytelling style will be prepared for this, but those expecting a more streamlined experience may find it overwhelming. Visually, Cold Steel IV is consistent with its predecessors—colorful and charming, but technically modest. Character models and environments are expressive but show the limitations of the engine, especially in comparison to more graphically advanced JRPGs. That said, the art direction is solid, and key moments are elevated through strong use of camera angles, effects, and music. The soundtrack, composed by Falcom Sound Team jdk, is a standout feature. From intense battle themes to emotional piano-driven pieces, the music enhances every scene and is easily one of the highlights of the overall experience. Voice acting is also strong, particularly in English, with a returning cast that delivers nuanced performances despite the massive script. One area where Cold Steel IV excels is in its fan service—not in the typical sense, but in how it respects and celebrates its long-term players. Familiar characters, locations, and callbacks to past games are woven throughout the experience. The sheer scale of the crossover moments, particularly involving heroes from other arcs like Trails in the Sky and Zero/Ao no Kiseki, feels like a reward for years of dedication. However, for players who haven’t played those games—or worse, jumped into Cold Steel IV without any prior context—this fan service can become a source of confusion rather than celebration. While the game includes a recap feature, it is no substitute for playing the earlier entries and fully understanding the significance of the characters and events unfolding on screen. Despite its dense lore and somewhat bloated runtime, Trails of Cold Steel IV delivers one of the most satisfying conclusions in recent RPG memory. It doesn’t reinvent the genre or even drastically change its own formula, but it commits fully to its vision: to deliver a massive, interconnected story full of heart, strategy, and long-term payoffs. It’s a game that demands time, attention, and emotional investment, but for those who give it all three, it rewards them with one of the most detailed and emotionally fulfilling narratives in modern gaming. As both a capstone to the Erebonia arc and a love letter to the entire Trails franchise, it stands as a testament to what long-form storytelling in video games can achieve. Rating: 9/10

Wtf Let me forget to play it again
I'm a fan of the Trails series, but holy crap was this game unnecessary. The Erebonia arc should have been wrapped up in 3 games instead of piling together this bloated nonsense. So much of this game is filler, and very little contributes to moving the story forward in any meaningful way. Also it's just so stupid how the development team felt they needed to force every character from every previous game into this game, however unnaturally it may be. So there's probably 50 or more characters that have been introduced in CS4 and previous Trails games and just about every one is put into this game for better or worse (usually worse). The development team tried to give a relevant role to each of the 50+ characters and it just turns into a sloppy mess of nonsense and supernatural contrivances. This whole game could have been trimmed down to 20 hours or less by removing all the filler and been added to the end of CS3 after trimming the filler from that game and you'd have a satisfying end to the Erebonia arc. Also it's just nauseatingly obnoxious how every single one of the girls falls instantly in love with the main character and eats up his every action despite him having such a dweeby, goody two shoes personality that would turn off most girls. Gameplay is good, music is meh, story is crap, game is bloated. 4/10
Pico ficticio climático de Trails
Wow. What a wild ride. Trails of Cold Steel 4 hits all of the feels in every way imaginable. You'll laugh, cry, and wonder all for various different reasons. When you think about how far you've come from Cold Steel 1, you realize that you just went on the most unforgettable journey. This game left me for the most "post-game emptiness," of any game in the Trails series. I know there's still more to-go, but this felt like the perfect end to a long epic story. Cold Steel 4 finally broke the momentum curse that some other Trails games have. The prologue starts out hot, and then it doesn't really slow down too much mid-game. I said this about Cold Steel 3, but even though this game is the longest of the Cold Steel series, it felt like it was about half as long because I was so immersed in this world. The big-bad in this game is so well written too. Up there with some of the greatest antagonists in video games. With the largest cast in any Trails game so far, they were able to give every single character a purpose in this game. No character felt excluded, unused, or without a story. It goes without saying, if you've played the first three, you absolutely have to play this installment. In my tier list of Trails games, I have to put this a peg below Cold Steel 3, and it's purely because of the music. The OST in Cold Steel 3 was perfect, while I think the battle theme, boss theme, and other OST beats were lacking in this game. That's a minor gripe, this is still an S-tier game, and after careful consideration, Cold Steel 4 managed to break a tie I've had in my tier list for quite some time. In order so far I'd say Zero > CS2 > Azure > CS1 > Sky 3rd > CS4 > Sky FC > CS3 > Sky SC
Absolute Cinema
Юна - база BASED. Juna-versal Feelings Sword-crossed Lovers Lifelong Drinking Partner Даже идиомы с Musse to My Ears (лучшее достижение) Arnor Ardor Tsunderbolts and Lightning Spellbound Cross Your Heart Allie-oop House of All-bro-ea ВСЕ ЭТИ СМЫСЛЫ ПОЙМЕТ НЕ КАЖДЫЙ. Просто aхyй.
It's called Cold Steel 4 because it's the 4th Cold Steel game idk I couldn't think of a zinger
