Hailed as one of the largest, longest and most meticulously detailed turn-based JRPG series of all time, this first chapter in the ongoing Trails saga sets the stage for what's quickly become Ys developer Nihon Falcom's most popular and best-selling franchise in their entire 30+ year history.

Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 1.43/day in the week to Sep 3 → 0.14/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,515 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Случайно набрел на эту серию, и она стала одной из моих любимых, как и сам разраб.
**A Slow Burn That's Worth Your Time** This is a game that requires patience. The opening chapters move at a very slow pace, with the entire game functioning essentially as an extended prologue. Don't expect action or dramatic momentum right away—expect instead a methodical introduction to a rich, interconnected world. For me the game didn't pick up until the start of Chapter 2 and the game begins to accelerate and truly click by that chapter's end Some adivce that i have to ge through the slow start if you're struggling is to treat it more like a novel than a traditional RPG. If you approach it with that mindset—and maybe play it on something portable like the Steam Deck, which lets you chip away at the slower sections at your own pace—the slow worldbuilding becomes an asset rather than a liability. The developers use those early hours to establish a living, breathing world with intricate lore that genuinely pays off later. Once you get past that initial hurdle, the game reveals its real strengths: a compelling story and a cast of characters and companions who are genuinely great. The character writing elevates what could have been a standard JRPG into something memorable. Absolutely worth it if you have the patience to let it unfold.

Solid start to the series.
Very late to the party on finding out about this game. As someone who grew up on FF6 and FF7, this is one of the best RPGs I've ever played. The fact that it took me nearly 9 hours to get through the prologue (to my absolute pleasure!) is an achievement in and of itself. So so much content is packed into these games and the turn-based combat is perfection. 10/10.
A game series you've probably heard from avid RPGs fans held in high regard by most of them. The first entry into a very sprawling series is one worth a try. Even if it feels like a extended prologue to its sequel.
Writing this after finishing the second game (Trails in the Sky SC). Both games are just amazing! I love every single character and how they interact with each other. The story is awesome too - it keeps surprising me, making me laugh, getting me emotional
(and yeah, sometimes it straight up made me cry like a little girl).
Yeah, the game is pretty old, but it's still totally playable. And honestly, a great story with well-written characters never really gets outdated. That said, I'd still strongly recommend picking up the remakes of both games. Because of their age, the gameplay might feel kinda slow and dragged out for modern players. I'll definitely replay Estelle and Joshua's story myself someday in the updated graphics. Trails in the Sky FC and SC will always have a special place in my heart and easily sit among my all-time favorite games.

My rating
9.0/10

10/10 for amazing worldbuilding and introducing possibly the most lovable cast of characters in a video game ever. While the story is at times quite slow-moving and only reaches its (grandiose) peak in the following game, it's a joy to experience at every step, with dialogue between characters providing both heartfelt and supremely funny moments in abundance. Graphics are obviously retro-tier, but the world still looks charming and handcrafted, with the accompanying soundtrack being similarly engaging and highly memorable. The turn-based combat and skill system are neat and fun to play around with. In short, my only regret is that I didn't learn of this timeless gem of a game and the rest of the Sky trilogy much sooner.
