Cool idea, poor execution. The controls look like they flow well but they don't. It's not like Journey. I'd love to see if they could try to make a game that actually flows well and plays smoothly. That would be a really cool idea. That's what I thought and hoped that this was but sadly it is not. I gave it another try. 1st try ~ 30 min. Trash Game. 2nd try ~20 min. Still a trash game. I really wanted to like this game but it just doesn't feel good to play no matter how you map the controls. You jumped, we all know you jumped. The game is just not built well enough to allow for players to play it.
The controls are really horrible, it does not flow smoothly and you will get handcramps in less then 10 minuts of playing the game. Game is practically unplayable. Only plus point i can give are aesthetics and sound design.
yes

one of the best platformers i've ever played
Solid platformer for the price, quite fun.
The King’s Bird, developed and published by Serenity Forge, is a visually stunning and emotionally resonant platformer that challenges players to master fluid, momentum-based movement within a beautifully crafted world. The game eschews traditional storytelling, instead relying on evocative environments, graceful animations, and subtle world-building to immerse players in a poetic journey of escape and self-discovery. From the moment you take control, the emphasis on smooth traversal and precise timing makes it clear this isn’t just another run-and-jump platformer; it’s a test of grace and patience wrapped in a vivid artistic experience. Gameplay centers on navigating sprawling, open levels that require a mix of running, jumping, dashing, and gliding to progress. What sets The King’s Bird apart is the weight and fluidity of these movements — momentum matters greatly, and the game encourages a flow-state where your actions blend seamlessly into one another. This makes traversing environments feel more like a dance than a series of discrete jumps. However, this also introduces a steep learning curve: the early stages ease you into the mechanics, but as the game progresses, levels become more intricate and demand pinpoint precision. For some players, the combination of slippery controls and complex platforming challenges can lead to moments of frustration, especially when the margin for error shrinks. Visually, the game is a masterpiece of minimalism and cultural inspiration. The worlds are beautifully designed with clean lines, bold colors, and architectural motifs inspired by a mix of ancient cultures including Mayan, Southeast Asian, and Roman influences. This blend creates a timeless, almost mythical atmosphere that perfectly complements the game’s themes of confinement and liberation. Each level feels like a distinct canvas, with carefully crafted environments that guide the player without intrusive prompts. The sound design and dynamic musical score further elevate the experience, reacting fluidly to player movements and enhancing immersion with a soundtrack that flows in tandem with the game’s graceful pacing. Narratively, The King’s Bird takes a subtle approach. Without dialogue or explicit exposition, the story of a girl fleeing a harsh kingdom unfolds through environmental storytelling and symbolic imagery. This minimalistic approach invites personal interpretation, allowing players to project their own meanings onto the journey. While this lends the game an artistic and open-ended quality, it may also leave some players wanting more narrative clarity or emotional connection to the protagonist’s plight. The lack of character development or verbal storytelling makes the experience feel more abstract, which will appeal to those who appreciate atmosphere and symbolism over traditional plotlines, but could feel distant for others seeking a clearer narrative arc. Technically, the game performs smoothly across platforms, with responsive controls and crisp visuals that maintain clarity even during fast-paced sequences. The user interface is minimal and unobtrusive, emphasizing player focus on movement and exploration. However, some players have noted that checkpoints can feel sparse in later stages, making retries more punishing after difficult sections. This design choice underscores the game’s emphasis on mastering its mechanics but can also contribute to moments of frustration when repeated attempts are necessary. In summary, The King’s Bird is a compelling experience for players who appreciate artistry in game design and enjoy a challenge centered on fluid movement and exploration. It’s not a casual platformer; rather, it demands patience, practice, and a willingness to embrace its sometimes unforgiving mechanics. The elegant visuals and evocative soundtrack create an immersive world that lingers in the mind long after the credits roll. Though its abstract narrative and difficulty spikes might divide players, those who connect with its vision will find a rewarding journey that celebrates freedom, grace, and perseverance in the face of oppression.
