Meine Spielbewertung für THE BRILLIANT COUP: 1. Geschichte / Story (**) 2. Hauptcharakter (***) 3. Nebencharaktere (**) 4. Rätsel (*) 5. Humor (**) 6. Musik (***) 7. Vertonung / Sprache (entfällt) 8. Steuerung (***) 9. Grafik (***) 10. Lieblingsadventure (**) => 78 %
This is an excellent old-school adventure game. The difficulty is very high, on par with Zak McKracken. The game resembles Zak in many ways, both in the character graphics, backgrounds, and settings. It lacks the ability to control multiple characters simultaneously, but it feels the same. In terms of story, it's more like Operation Stealth, with some parts reminiscent of that game. The puzzles are great, but very difficult. They are all fair, except for perhaps one, which required me to use a walkthrough. This was the puzzle involving how to get a transparent sheet for the printer. If you get stuck there, try using all inventory items on each other. But this really is the only instance where a puzzle felt to me nearly impossible to solve. All the other puzzles have hints, subtle but present. If you get stuck, remember: 1) Re-examine all objects and read their descriptions carefully. Sometimes they contain subtle hints. 2) Some situations change without warning, and you'll need to revisit places you've already been where no one was before, or ring up people again who previously didn't say anything useful. (Also, open containers that were previously empty, but this last case has a hint, so it doesn't count). This, if anything, is one of the game's few flaws: actions you need to retry without knowing you need to retry them. The second flaw of the game is that the main character isn't very likeable (but this is subjective). Aside from that, the game is excellent. In the finale, there are several possible endings. To succeed, you need to have done something specific earlier. But otherwise, there are no dead ends in this game. Other small flaws include the SCUMM interface being a bit old-fashioned, meaning it doesn't automatically select "use." What's worse, you can't use a keyboard shortcut to select "use" and "give," which I really missed. Also, the mouse wheel doesn't scroll through inventory items. These omissions are annoying but are relatively minor flaws. Also the lack of a pause button during dialogues is annoying. The character and background graphics are well done. The animations are excellent. The settings aren't very exotic, unfortunately; they're ordinary places. The music is well-produced but ultimately too repetitive, so I ended up turning it off. The dialogues are well-written, and the humor is moderately successful. Conclusion What truly matters is that the game is well-designed and very long. Money very well spent. This is one of the best 10-15 adventures of recent years. I'm looking forward to a sequel, but this time with a more likeable protagonist, like a James Bond-style spy. And with a more exotic, non-urban settings. Then we'll have an adventure game that could be second to none. Great job!
This game is in desperate need of a map. WAY WAY WAY too much backtracking. Our hero has two speeds: strolling and ambling. He might be persuaded to shuffle if you click repeatedly. But that's only if he's in the right mood. Got very frustrated with constantly having to do the same actions over and over. For example, we need to wear a disguise to enter certain places. Instead of automatically putting it on, we have to click use every. single. time. It's maddening. Other reviewers have noted that right click always means look. So if you want to enter a door, you have to click open each time. It's a waste of time and doesn't increase the challenge, only the frustration. The game is pretty quiet due to lack of voiceovers. That's not always a dealbreaker if there are other sound effects to make up for it. This game has some music, though not in every location. The story is OK. But most of the characters are pretty unlikable. Our hero frequently turns to the camera and makes this "oooo looky here" face. It doesn't increase his likability. In fact, quite the opposite. He also dresses like a cat burglar for some reason. It's not really clear why he's doing any of the things he's doing. Apparently, his father was in prison with the "man with the plan" Briggs, who got Hero into the entire heist thing. Apparently, the son wants to follow in dear old dad's footsteps. He cries poverty, yet has expensive computer equipment at a time when most people didn't have home computers (1980s). Briggs comes off like a bit of a scumbag. Why is he dragging his former cellie's son into this awful plan? Is it merely selfishness? For some reason, the developers thought it would be cute to have Briggs spitting green phlegm every time he talks more than a second. It's disgusting and unnecessary. The game is quite lengthy, which has its good and bad points. You will be forced to backtrack through the same locations over and over. You will be forced to click "Use" and "Open" so many times that you will want to bite your own face off. All of these are small things that could have been fixed in any one of the four patches released for this game. Since they weren't, it's tough to call this a great game. Too bad because even a map could potentially transform the game's playability. It would certainly increase its fun level.
It's not bad, if the idea of a point & click puzzle game centered on a heist interests you. And you don't mind an overall package that feels about a generation behind its indie point & click peers. Would recommend that you buy other similarly priced but more highly rated point & click games first. Especially those that are voiced. Then later get this game at a discount, if you've run out of games. I had a smooth, bug free playing experience; only complaint is, a very small number of puzzle solutions require trying out random things; or some items can easily be missed. All puzzle solutions make sense though, and because of the nature of this game that doesn't hold your hand, it's quite satisfying to solve most of the puzzles on your own.
Juego clásico Point and Click, 2D y con 9 verbos.
