Ran over mines and blew my own characters up.
TANK BATTLE: NORMANDY This game employs the same simple and easy-to-play turn-based tactical singleplayer game system as HexWar's other releases in their TANK BATTLE and CIVIL WAR series, with novelties like amphibious landings, bridge-laying, mine-clearing, parachute-drops, a "historical" combat option, etc. Ranged combat with line-of-sight implementation and some unit facing considerations. Each unit has a maximum strength of 10, with attack capability diminished as strength is reduced. The scale is tactical but unspecified with no unit stacking. The combat system is odds-based with some variability in outcome, better than similar games which are entirely dice-based. No headquarters or command-and-control implementation. Many mini-campaigns included allowing you to play the U.S., British and Germans for many hours. Some scenarios are tough nuts to crack. Competent AI with three difficulty options. High playability, low technicality. If you like HexWar's other games, this won't disappoint. Just beware that no multiplayer option is available. Recommended.
I really like that there was some variety in the missions for this one. Sometimes you are escorting a group of engineers to fix a a plane so a general can escape, sometimes you have to storm a beach, other's involves building bridges, others defending a town, capturing a position or just destroying the enemy army. A very solid entry, if you liked the others then pick this one up
D-Day requires two units that hadn't previously been introduced to the Tank Battle series: paratroopers and landing craft. Both come with quirks that make them a bit gamey. Many missions use landing craft that come in two varieties: regular and gigantic. In order to land heavy equipment, such as tanks, on the beach, the Allies used LCT (Landing Craft, Tank). In the game, these occupy 7(!?!) hexes and hold up to three units. Alternatively, LCVP (Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel AKA Higgins boats) occupy one hex and hold two units. The trick is maneuvering LCTs so that armor can provide cover for infantry. It can also be a struggle to unload engineers early so they can clear mines. Landing craft blocking the next wave of units seems like an authentic problem the Allies faced. Somewhat less authentic is mortars and artillery raining shells on the enemy while still on the landing craft. The main advantage is they aren't clogging the beaches. Paratroopers work like off-map artillery except a new unit materializes in an empty hex. This can be very convenient to capture strategic and control points. The landing zone must be within the visible area of the map and not on a building or an enemy unit. Otherwise, you have complete freedom and the drop will go exactly as you order. While that's handy, it's hard to connect the mechanism with the historical reality. Real airborne drops were chaotic and disorganized. Paratroopers often found themselves in unknown territory far from their objectives. For the sake of the game, I suppose deterministic drops are best. But I wish there were some way to simulate the confusion of the actual invasion. Speaking of historical simulation, the maps of the beaches were designed to reflect the actual battlefields including German pillboxes, obstructions and fortifications. Other missions are more thematic than modeled directly after Normandy events. Frankly, the historical missions tend to be tedious. It's just a lot of maneuvering and slow chipping away at German fortifications. I suppose that's what it was really like. One way the level designers enlivened these missions is by sub-goals. If the Allies capture certain points, they can stop German artillery. Overall, this is a worthy addition to the Tank Battle series with novel features.
Pretty awesome large scale battles. A bit simplistic, but fun.
HUGE BUG! Good game BUT, every time you try to land a medium tank game crashes. If you restart game it will resume with the medium tank on the beach and everything will run ok UNTIL you land your next medium tank. Then the game will crash again. You must keep restarting the game until all medium tanks have landed. Patch needed! Win 10. UPDATE: The bug was fixed and now works great. My only complaint (and that includes most Hex Games, is the background music. Here's how I fixed it. 1. Find some good music (marches, military bands, movie themes work fine). 2. Go to Program Files(x86) > Steam > Steamapps >Common > [your game title] > resources >art > music. Change "theme1" - "theme3" etc, file names to "theme1old", etc. Change your mp3 file name to "theme1, theme2, theme3, victory, defeat", etc. and add them to "music" file with renamed original mp3 files. Play the game and enjoy your own background music.
The entire series is very mediocre and a port of mobile games. Don't waste your time on this and get a proper PC wargame.
Good strategy game. Oldschool design is awesome. You can earn achievements.
Simple enough for quick play while detailed enough to hold my interest.
基本一样玩法的战棋类游戏发布了好几个 每个都不算便宜,加起来都快有好几部3A游戏的价格了 但实际内容,战斗简陋,基本上就靠逐一歼灭各个击破,外加拼RP比伤害,可玩性太差了
