Chaos is a controlled substance If you want straight action RPG dungeon crawling with no hub/over world, you've come to the right place.
Great action game with a surprisingly deep combat system and a well-balanced Hard difficulty.
CHAOS My journey is to kill CHAOS You are not CHAOS? ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Are you CHAOS? Where the hell is CHAOS? ... I suddenly lost my purpose as if CHAOS is just gone CHAOS is me? I be CHAOS? Hahahahahahaha Give me CHAOS! MORE CHAOS!!! I am THE CHAOS! - Jack "CHAOS" Garland
Basically Nioh-like final fantasy. What i dont like in nioh is its loot system, and this game simplified it. Or at least let you farm it easier than nioh. Level design can be better. Second dlc is the best for its labyrinth/tower system. Third dlc is the best for its "easy equipment upgrading" qol.
What an absolute shame this game didn't get any attention. When it's on sale, it's absolutely worth it if you have a passive interest; but make sure to pick up the DLC as well for more bosses and jobs. Story is whatever (though Jack as a main character is refreshingly psychotic), combat is great with skills through parries/dodging and abilities with combos, tons of content and gear that leads to interesting builds that combines abilities and stats from so many different jobs and weapon types. Definitely worth it if you want a kind of Monster Hunter/Dark Souls-esque ARPG with Diablo-style looting with a ton of build variety. Better played with a friend, you can play the entire campaign co-op with two other people.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is easily my favorite Team Ninja game. The story is honestly pretty silly, but it has a charming fan-fiction vibe that eventually grows on you, especially if you're a longtime Final Fantasy fan. Combat is gooooood. It has a satisfying rhythm. As you level up jobs you unlock more abilities and equipment becomes increasingly specialized, creating powerful builds becomes one of the most rewarding parts of the experience. The game is also packed with fan service. Every major location pays homage to a different Final Fantasy title, making exploration a constant stream of references for longtime fans of the series. It's a love letter to the franchise. As expected from Team Ninja, there's an overwhelming amount of loot, weapons, armor pieces, and stats to manage. Players who enjoy optimizing equipment and experimenting with builds will love it, but those looking for a simpler RPG may find the inventory management exhausting. One thing I really appreciated is the PC version's ultrawide support. Everything worked out of the box on my setup without having to search for community fixes, which is unfortunately still uncommon for many Japanese PC ports. Pros: + Excellent and satisfying combat system + Deep build customization in the endgame + Fantastic fan service for Final Fantasy fans + Large variety of jobs, weapons, and abilities + Native ultrawide monitor support Cons: - The story is cheesy and often unintentionally funny - Takes time before fully opens up - Huge amount of loot and statistics can become overwhelming - Inventory management can feel like a chore
