Honestly, a great improvement over the first SteamWorld Dig game. The quality of life mprovements are awesome, and this game utilizes its tools way more than the first one. The areas are great too, making exploration much more enjoyable. Overall, if you're new to metroidvanias, this game is a must play.

I am a bit torn on how to rate this game. On one hand, I enjoyed the mining and exploration aspects. This game rewards exploration quite well with ample secrets to find. The side caves offer simple puzzles but a fun diversion from digging. Although tagged as a Metroidvania, there is little reason to backtrack in the game until the penultimate objective sends you slightly deeper into the mine than you could access previously. On the other hand, the core mechanic of the game is almost pointless. Mining is a chore to get money to upgrade your character, but the real fun of the game is to explore deeper into the mine. Mining is presented as the core aspect early on, but the only good reason to return to town is to heal and recharge the lantern. It seems like the game forces you to interrupt your progress for no apparent reason, which turns out to be okay, but—why!? I enjoyed the game, yet I also feel like the game is kind of pointless? It's a bit too long for the underwhelming story, but it's also too short for what it could have been if it capitalized on the mechanics. I guess I'll just say this game is perfectly adequate for what it is.
Cool game, with a good story, worldbuilding, artstyle and tight controls. It also runs absolutly smooth with perfect frame pacing without any stutter and the load on CPU and GPU is absolutly miniscule. But it is sadly a downgrade from the first SteamWorld Dig in 3 categories. 1. It is to long, it would have been better if the game would have been at least 30% shorter. Longer is not always better and the game feels at many points stretched beyond its welcome. 2. Too many upgrades. This makes the game more complex and dulls the feeling of getting a nice reward once in a while, it becomes more of a chore than an achievement. 2. The challenge dificulty is at many points in the game to high, whereas in the first SteamWorld Dig it was perfectly balanced from start to finish. It is a good game but I rate it only as an 8/10.
comecei a jogar e quando vi tinham se passado mais de 8h, pra passar o tempo é ótimo 8/10.
Just keep digging. You play as Dorothy. She used to buy ore in the first game. Now, she's the protagonist. If you played 1, then 2 improves upon everything. * Controller recommended. * You get a cool powerup that turns you into Spider-Man! * Waypoints! You can teleport to any of them. * Easier to make money. * Perks! Use gears to activate them. * Mining ore are a one time thing, but enemies drop ore as well. * Story is better than the first game. There are some question you might ask yourself at the ending. The only negative: - Game was already over before I knew it. --- Windows 11 Sound Issue: If you are reading this review and are playing SteamWorld Dig 2, then you realized that digging produces low sound. Try the following: 1. Go to your Windows Volume Icon. 2. Right-click it. Open Sound Settings. 3. Select your appropriate Output for sound. 4. Advanced settings -> Audio enhancements -> Change "Device Default Effects" to "Off" 5. Restart game. Sound should work normally. Just switch it back once you're done. I don't have an answer as to why it muffles the pickaxe sound. --- Score: 10 out of 10. Recommended! I could score it half a point lower because of realizing the game was already done, but the game was too addicting to play. Buy it on sale. It's worth. There needs to be SteamWorld Dig 3, so we can get even more lore and exploration.
Paced a bit poorly compared to the first game; I nearly fell off around the 2 to 4-hour mark. But once I got over the hump and played a couple more hours, I felt that familiar sense of power-scaling, albeit much more slowly than in the first game. If I had to put it in a sentence, I would say that the sequel feels slower and more-difficult than the first game, rather than it really expanding on the experience. Once I shifted my expectations, I enjoyed the rest of the game.
PROS:

Decent story with plenty of funny dialogue and enjoyable humor.
Much stronger Metroidvania design, featuring a larger map, more exploration, upgrades, secrets, and memorable boss fights.
Fast travel is significantly improved, making exploration and backtracking far less frustrating.
Optional challenge modifiers let you customize the difficulty for a more rewarding experience.
Tough trial challenges provide a satisfying test of skill.
New gadgets add more variety to both exploration and combat.

CONS:

Mining can get boring and repetitive for some players.
I personally preferred the art style from the first game.
Some platforming sections can be frustrating, mainly because of the constant environmental hazards falling from above.

OVERALL:
This is a noticeable improvement over the first game in almost every gameplay aspect. The developers expanded the exploration, added more meaningful progression, introduced fun new gadgets, and greatly improved the fast travel system. Backtracking feels much less tedious, making it easier to enjoy searching for upgrades and hidden secrets. The Metroidvania elements are much stronger this time around. Unlocking new abilities and returning to previously inaccessible areas feels rewarding, and the boss fights are generally more memorable than in the original. The optional challenge modifiers are also a nice addition for players looking for a tougher experience, even if a few of them feel more frustrating than entertaining. That said, the game isn't perfect. Mining remains a core mechanic, and while it's enjoyable at first, it eventually becomes repetitive. Some platforming sections can also feel unfair due to the constant environmental hazards, and I wasn't as big of a fan of the new art style compared to the original. Overall, if you enjoyed the first game, this sequel improves on nearly everything that mattered. The better exploration, smoother progression, and improved quality of life features make it an easy recommendation.
