STAR WARS™ Knights of the Old Republic™

This game is super glitchy. Sometimes when the characters speak a different language it doesn't show the subtitles and you can't understand what they are saying. Also, when you get stuck on a corner the keys to back up and move forward don't work and I always have to save and load to get moving forward again. Also, sometimes for no reason I am not able to move. It is not compatible with an Xbox controller even though this was originally a game played on the original Xbox. I didn't like the tutorials because they were hard to understand and they didn't explain the game clearly enough. I played this game because my hubby is a huge star wars fan and wanted me to play it with him. The mechanics are similar to D&D 4th Edition.

The best game in the Star Wars series. They increased the price but didn’t add support for modern systems. 20 years have passed. There is absolutely no respect for the players or the fans. A remaster still hasn’t been released. It hurts to give this game a negative review. Of course, I’ll still play it, and I’ll mess around with community mods and patches. But considering they make millions of dollars from this franchise, they could have done things properly by now.

Can't go wrong with this classic. Although on modern systems you have to cap the frame rate to 60fps and turn on v-sync otherwise you'll run into a game breaking bug where you can't move after a combat encounter. Hopefully the Remake will live up to the original whenever that releases.

Just finished my first playthrough in nearly a quarter century, and the game still holds up. A solid RPG experience, from the time when everyone was excited for the next Star Wars anything, and BioWare was an exciting new company. The game is similar to later BioWare games like Mass Effect, where you've got several main planet-quests you can travel between, companion characters that fight alongside you, and conversational chains that follow overall choices you make. A pleasant way to blow 30-40 hours, with some replay value if you want to try for different endings. There are a couple major issues, however: - This was originally an OG Xbox game, and the PC port didn't do a good job with controls. The mouse and keyboard interface is very clunky. It takes time to get used to, and even when you do, it's still bad. It can make some of the movement-based puzzles infuriating. Unfortunately the PC version *doesn't* support game controllers, so you're stuck with the keyboard/mouse. I can't imagine it would be any fun on a steam deck. - The vanilla game has some problems on modern Windows, especially with full-screen mode and supporting wide-screen (non-4:3) resolutions. You may need to make some edits in the ini files and replace some game files to get it to work smoothly. Fortunately a quick Google search should give you simple instructions on making any fixes. - The vanilla game also looks it's age, with the primitive models and low-res textures capable of running on an OG Xbox. You can significantly improve your experience if you install some of the fan-created graphic upgrade mods and bug fixes. There's no Steam workshop support, so you've got to do it the old fashioned way. I used the "Full Kotor Overall" mod collection over on Nexus. All these caveats aside, it's still a game I'd recommend if you like this kind of RPG, or Star Wars in general. And the price is right, especially if you find it on sale.
