First, ignore the playtime Steam says I have... everything past the first half-hour or so, I was just getting cards. So, flying in space is pretty enough, although mouse-based primary controls are a bit odd for a cockpit-view game... but your first taste of that flight being after a story introduction that I can only call inept, followed by several screens in lieu of a tutorial telling you that keys exist for various ship funcitons (without telling you what those keys are), followed by being dumped into a dogfight without any weaponry, well, that easily killed any interest I had in seeing what else this game had to offer. It might be that there weren't any better options out there for this type of game when it was launched 8+ years ago, but I'm sure you can do better now.
8/10 With improvements, Spaceforce Rogue Universe could be one of the best space simulators. For about 10 €, you will get the following features: - excellent combat mechanics (space battles in this game are really satysfing) - challenging AI (if you're not careful, you will die) - a good diplomacy system involving different races (10 civilizations) - a good trading system (you can trade over 50 goods, included narcotics) - scientific, headhunting, escort and other special quests - you can recruit wingmen (up to 3) for personal defence - many systems to explore (over 35) - you can mine asteroids to sell materials or use them to upgrade your ship - good graphics (it will runs easily even on crappy laptops with integrated graphic cards) - good background music, pretty enjoyable while you travel to the next jumpgate - a campaign and a sandbox mode - apparently no bugs, if we don't consider the occasional crash. If you like sandbox games and don't mind if a game doesn't hold your hand, you will love Spaceforce Rogue Universe HD. Here you can be a trader, a headhunter, a pirate, a spy, a hacker or simply an adventurer but you will have to create your story by yourself. This game will give you just the basic tools to do that, so if you want to be story-driven or want to have a real reason to do this and that, you will be disappointed for sure. Honestly, I would pay even 20€ just to see a DLC for this game.

Ok this game looks a little dated, not the graphics, they're pretty nice, but the HUD, the interface and the lack of contextual menu is a shame too. BUT keep in mind that this game is from 2007 and so far it is still good. It' not half a game, the campaign is nice and chasing pirates is great too. It's not an X² game, but if you like space action game and can deal with not up to date interfaces, go for it, it's a cool game.
Aside from the unbelievably bad writing this game has little going for it. The controls are incredibly clumsy, using almost the entire keyboard with no in-game direction. Moving around is confusing and seems very slow and tedious. Docking at a station just takes too long for a game too. The game simply lacks a decent UI that helps you to get to your quest location quickly and this is a mortal sin in a space combat sim. X3TC is just better in every way. I would even recommend Rebel Galaxy over this.
Space, my dude
This is no newsbreak. Space Force Rogue Universe is the king of indie space sims. And refreshing it in HD is well expected from devoted team, and expected for a legendary titles nowadays. Just immerse a little bit and you'll be rewarded. I ain't gotta time here :) must go finish some trade routes and a few annoying pirates :) Enjoy!
The game is good. But compared to the game in the original version is not so very different in the graphic part. What's worse, in the original version I can play with the keyboard + joystick option without problems, but in this HD version if I choose the same option, my keyboard does not work with most commands, even resetting the keys. I was then forced to play keyboard + mouse (Where the keyboard works normally) And the developer no longer appears in the steam to answer or correct the problems of the game.
In a nutshell: not bad, but a bit empty. Pick it up on sale if you feel like it. Advice: In the main menu, go to profiles and create a new one. The default is bugged on story (at least for me). Also there's a steam community guide to begin with, as the ingame tutorial is just a mass of text: https://steamcommunity.com/app/372480/discussions/0/615085406660656908/ Overall, I enjoy playing the game in the sandbox mode. It can give a few hours of entertainment. Edit: It would do well if it could be modded. Steam Workshop compatibility and support would go a long way.
I played this back in the day on my dads computer and saw it pop up on steam, so i got it, for me its worth the nostalgia value, and a decent game given when it was released, enjoyable despite some flaws, like no proper tutorial, or starting with no weapons, hard to figure out controls etc..
