This game does a lot of things really well with some flaws that stop it from being a slam dunk recommendations. Let's take it from the top... [h1] Gameplay [/h1] This is probably the best part of this game and by far! I am fairly new to the Sonic series but this game blew me away with the really fun movement,puzzles,and Cyberspace challenges which mimic the original Sonic formula. A mix between 2d and 3d in movement felt much smoother than I expected and I loved every second of it. Whoever thought of making an Open-World Sonic game deserves a raise,genuinely! Don't even get me started on the boss fights at the end of most islands. They are some of the best and most fun boss fights i've ever had in a game,and the music I am listening to as I write this review. It is that good! The combat is fairly simple but has really engaging visuals and is deep enough that you can't just turn off your brain for a lot of encounters. I love the Guardian mini-bosses around the islands where they all have different mechanics and ways to beat them. Never got bored of fighting them,ever! As for the platforming which is probably the main appeal of this game,It's really enjoyable and fun. I am pretty terrible at it since this is my first real platforming game playthrough but I still had fun even if I had to repeat a lot of sections or cyberspace maps out of skill issue. I love how well designed each of the puzzles and platforming places(? not sure what they're called) are and how it keeps getting fresh new mechanics as you move from Island to island. Easy 10/10 [h1] Open World Mechanics [/h1] This is..........one of the weaker parts of this game,if you want me to be fully honest. There is a lot of puzzles and moving around,which is fun and all but.......the gameplay loop really doesn't do the map any favour. You are expected to constantly move around to look for memory tokens to progress the story or beat bosses to get gears and unlock portals which give you vault keys to progress the story as well. This is a fine loop if it wasn't the ONLY thing going on for 99% of the playtime of this game. Even though this game has some fun mechanics I found that it felt way longer than it actually was because of how repetitive it was without many things to freshen up and elevate the decent foundation as you go from Island-to-island. what this led to is me abandoning to explore the map from the halfway point and onwards,and simply opting to fish to skip a lot of the time looking around for memory tokens or doing cyberspace portals over and over again to get higher ratings and get more vault keys. If you plan to play this game,I heavily recommend doing this approach from the moment you start unless you really enjoy the repititive nature of what the open world expects of you. Overall,A solid foundation but nothing elevated it across the Islands which massively weakens it and makes the open world feel empty and boring after a certain point. 6.5/10. [h1] Story [/h1] I honestly don't know what to say here because of how empty and short the story is. Without going into spoiler territory the game kind of has no story beyond exploring the islands and saving Sonic's friends from being stuck in the Cyberspace dimension and beating the giant titan bosses with some hints about what's going on in the world around you until the very tail end of the game where you have a clear goal. The story cutscenes are fairly short and boil down to "Sonic,do this and that and come back later" over and over again for most of the Islands. There were some decent moments especially with Sage and I think her writing was done well for the most part. But unfortunately the story is too short to really do anything or have a strong impact by the last couple of cutscenes where there's actually stuff going on. I get what they're trying to go for by the end but It was hard to really care too much about it. I somewhat felt empty even at the cutscene at the end which I could tell was meant to be the emotional peak of the game. 5.5/10 [h1] Graphics & Art Direction & Music [/h1] I decided to mix all the artistic subjective things in one section for clarity. All of it is almost perfect in full honesty! The graphics and Islands are visually stunning beyond belief. The style of this game is amazing and I love a lot of the visual choices for sonic and his moves and simply how cool it looks. The OSTs are some of the best I heard( and I played a lot of games with great music!) and especially the boss music will likely stick with me for years after I play this game. The character models are well made and the voice acting was done well for most of the game. I am very impressed with how well everything in this regard was handled. the combat animations are amazing as well. I never got bored of how smooth the movement and combat felt and how visually engaging they were! 10/10 Without Hesitation. [h1] Final Rating [/h1] I would give this game about a 7.5/10. It's a great game and was mostly fun to play through but had some things that held it back from being something exceptional. I would recommend buying it anyways(if you dont like the repetitive gameplay loop,this is still worth a shot on a sale or something!) and giving it a shot,especially if you're new to Sonic as a franchise since this seems like a good entry point at least from my point of view. Just don't expect a life-changing game or something that sticks with you forever. This experience was very one-and-done for me even though there's a New Game+ option.
El mejor juego de Sonic junto con Unleashed, en mi opinión. Excelente banda sonora, demasiados temas muy buenos y variados, dentro de los niveles te invita a esforzarte por hacerlos rápido y precisos, mientras que en los combates te acompaña de manera épica.

Une impression d'Ubisofterie au départ. une carte avec 15000 trucs sans intérêts à faire, un gameplay très rigide, le jeu prend des décisions à notre place régulièrement et c'est très frustrant. Mais bon, les énnemis et boss sont bien pensés, peu de techniques, mais suffisantes et chacune à son utilité et j'ai aimé trouver des raccourcis dans l'openworld. Les niveaux classiques sont OK tier, pas vraiment mémorables avec un besoin de les refaire quelques fois pour tout collecter et passer au suivant. Je ne m'attendais à rien et je suis quand même agréablement surpris

Sonic team took a big risk with this game, and it paid off drastically. While i cannot say this game is absolutely incredible because quite frankly it isn't, however as a sonic fan i went in expecting not to enjoy this new idea for sonic and had low expectations and it blew me away with how they nailed open world sonic, and I'm extremely excited to see how they perfect this new era of sonic games.
