This game is perfect for someone like me: a Norwegian man who grew up in the 90s. Reminiscent of flash games from 123spill or 1001spill that we would play during class in high school, and the story feels like it could've been written by Egil Hegerberg. Tempted to try a playthrough in English, just to see if the humor translates well. In any case, the mechanics themselves are also good, and it is just a solid card game
Absolutely goated deckbuilder! Very funny, especially if you're norwegian. Great soundtrack. More people need to know about and play this game!!!
Very good game, lots of fun! The music was a nice touch as well :)
I have played quite a bit of roguelite deckbuilders and I must say, this is amongst the ones I have enjoyed the most to date. I usually engage with deckbuilders mainly from a strategic approach (and, in that regard, I find this game completely serviceable at the very least: aspects like the usage of energy for drawing cards, and keeping the cards in hand lend to a different flow that I really enjoyed, reminding me of the mechanics of classic TCGs. I felt more in control, while still feeling challenged), but I found this game compelling from an aesthetic perspective to a level I would only compare to Inscryption (another game - such as this one - that I will download from time to time even after completing all the achievements, just to enjoy a run). I was born in the early 90s and, even when I spent my childhood far, far away from Norway (never been near the place, really), the DIY comic aesthetic, the rough crowds in the streets, the cultural references, all resonated with me. It reminded me of the times I would look up to my older cousin, who would beat the final levels of Super Mario World for my brother just to, later that night, go for a drink and a smoke with his neighborhood buddies. Taking the route system of a Slay the Spire and making each node into a small explorable scene really helped with the inmersion, and the intentionally ridiculous (if compelling and politically suggestive) narrative made me not just anxious for another run (as most games in the genre make me) but actively happy to further the narrative. That is, without mentioning I snickered the whole time I played this game. I truly thank and wish the best to the developers for making it possible to have such a good time. And, just so you know, if you ever release a DLC, I will be nabbing it day 1.
Truly a unique experience full of passion. Unlike most deck builder roguelikes Skogal does not have you fighting goblins in a dungeon, instead you are fighting drunken teenagers in a mall parking lot in rural Norway. With a charming sketchbook punk zine vibe Skogal is not afraid of having the player break the game with ridiculous combos, and the more grounded setting helps create ridiculous groups of weirdos to fight other ridiculous groups of weirdos. If you are in the mood for something unique and with soul this is a must play. My only real problem is that some of the 90d references are a little bit on the nose but that’s also a part of its charm.
A cool deckbuilder. Having innate retain and tough enemies pushes one to creating an infinite or dying though. Excellent aesthetic though with a great scandinavian rock soundtrack and each stage being its own little scene of a Norwegian town.
Underrated af, I was having so much fun playing this
This is a genuinely amazing deckbuilder. Not only does it have a unique atmosphere, great music and fun "What if Twin Peaks happened in a Norwegian small town" story, but the mechanics and the vas amount of content this game is astounding. The mechanics are fresh and allow for a surprising strategic depth, there are many different kinds of enemies, lots of possible builds and a franky insane amount of unlocks. Come for the weird style, stay for the gameplay.
Too easy until you roll credits once and open up hard mode, which does a reasonable job of making you engage with the mechanics. The vibes are immaculate.
