On paper this should be a dream game for fans of the genre. I’m a huge fan of roguelike deckbuilders, and “cards but with dice” plus dungeon crawling with a cute frog checked all the right boxes. The problem is that somewhere between the concept and the execution, they forgot to make it actually fun. The core issue is how unintuitive everything feels moment to moment. Every turn demands minute, fussy readings of dice descriptions, interactions, and edge cases just to understand what your options really are. Instead of that satisfying “I see my line, now I make a clever play” feeling you get in the best deckbuilders, you constantly stop to re‑read tooltips and decode the board. It’s more like doing homework on dice faces than making interesting decisions. Layer in the swingy low rolls and undertuned damage, and runs end up feeling punishing and opaque rather than challenging in a good way. When a game nails this genre, complexity becomes satisfying depth; here it too often feels like clutter getting between you and any actual fun.
Optimal way to play is very boring, lack of diversity in combats, not enough synergy with dice in hands.
do math for 30 minutes until your die are so OP it doesn't matter where you put them, too easy, too short, beat game on first run.
This game looks like it would be really fun and I was really excited to play this. However the pixelated font is really hard to read and can't be disabled. Couldn't even read the tutorial text to learn how to play.
4/10. Visual and music are cool. At first glance this is the dream roguelike, but after a few round it shows how nightmarish bad the gameplay execution is. 1. Rng. Dice reward, the affix of dice , what dice you get in the round, and dice roll in fight are all rng. You want some defends when enemy's preparing a big hit? Tough luck kiddo. Even worst is the buff dice effect distance are decide by the roll as well, and most of your dice are ♥♥♥♥ without any buff. 2. Time consuming. Because of the heavy RNG, you have to play cautious or you'll get ♥♥♥♥ very fast, thus making every round long as hell. Also dice and enemy have a tons of affix that you have to mouseover to check. Even so your hp still get slowly chip away because of ♥♥♥♥ luck, or simply crush because you have no defends and enemy hit like 50% of your hp in 1 turn. Enemy scales so extremely fast compare to how slow and small you gain any meaningful growth. 3. It's just not fun. Stage system are hard copy from Slay the spire, but even when StS2 is still a early access balance ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, i still have more fun playing StS2 than this crap. Instead of making combination of cards and deck synergy, you get dice with random affix, which are heavy limited and RNG based. Instead of making the great combo you get ♥♥♥♥ in ass by RNG every turn and barely trying to survive. It's just not fun. Cool idea, had so much potential but ruined by ♥♥♥♥ balance and UI design.
A beautiful game with a lot of work put into it. The art is incredible, the soundtrack is pleasing, I had fun. I personally wouldn't recommend it to someone with the same sensibilities as myself, since the individual fights as well as the runs can drag on for way too long. Most enemies in the game don't scale up turn on turn, which means a universal solution to almost every enemy can be to just full block every turn. This leads to fights dragging on for much longer than is enjoyable. Some of their recent additions such as potions and boss objectives (many of which asks you to ignore the boss's unique mechanic and make the fight EVEN LONGER) don't really help the case. This is a respectable game with some fun to discover if what I said doesn't deter you, but please understand what you're getting into before you drop 20 dollars on this.
Such a good game! I have been playing since the itch.io demo a while back and each run is always different, yet somehow always satisfying when you make a good deck. It's a very simple yet very fun game, and in my recommendations a good way to kill some time for a good while.
decently fun but very broken. certain mechanics in the game sort of you force you into creating an infinite combo in every run regardless of character, so it creates a lack of identity between characters. the game would probably be more fun and varied without the infinites, but also it appears that the harder difficulties are balanced around being able to pull off these combos early, before you die the game is remarkably easy at the earlier difficulties, i don't think i've lost a single run yet, with any character. i still would recommend this game on sale, its well made enough, but i've also encountered some glitches that kind of nullify any risk in some of the decision-making (for example, in a particular boss fight i was rewarded a relic despite failing the prerequisite). i'd love to see more variety in dice, especially dice rewards. i find myself skipping so often that it feels samey thoughout the run. it'd also be cool if each character started with one unique rare die, just to give them a bit more identity
I like it and it's a unique take on a roguelike. The early game is easy to understand and fun. The late game has damage and effects coming out of no where that are impossible to keep track of or even read. I think I'm done with it after getting to the boss after mosquito and just having zero idea what was even happening. What did the purple even mean, what was the intended mechanism? Why did I suddenly have +96 boosted tiles? No clue.
It’s a good game, but it’s hard—and in a way that isn’t balanced out by the options available during a run.
