Great card game for metalheads
I really love how the hand-drawn art of this game is packed with metal references, mostly black metal—you can totally tell the dev used to sketch corpse paint in their room as a sad teen QAQ Also, the BGM is pretty solid. Even when I keep drawing trash, the riffs still make me headbang. The flavor text and card designs are hilarious—I mean, the Bean card literally gives you a Fart card, and I jsut can't stop laughing every time I see them. Oh, if you have both the cat and dog cards, they'll play with each other and you'll unlock a cuuuuute achievement, hell yeah. That said, the difficulty curve is all over the place. Early on, most builds feel similar, but mid-run, if you've picked up too many cards or haven't nailed down a proper build, your HP just melts away before you even reach the boss. Sometimes you get lucky and draw great cards, but honestly, this game feels way too RNG-heavy. I often get so frustrated when my opening hand sucks...Cause in this game, your start pretty much decides everything, ugh. Even so, if you're a metalhead and also into card games, I'd really recommend Skogdal to you.
I had to come back and write a review for this game. In 2025, I played a fair amount of new releases, and 100%'d around 25 games in total. Although I haven't gone back and played it since 100%'ing it, It is the game I've probably thought the most about. It is a deckbuilder and does it well. It doesn't re-invent the wheel like Balatro, but it has a lot of charm from the art style, to the sound track and to the humor. This game having less than 100 reviews at the time of me writing this is criminal. I would wager it is the single most underrated game on steam right now.
Man, where do I even start with Skogdal? I stumbled across this one completely by accident while browsing for something new in the deckbuilder section, and holy crap, am I glad I did. It's one of those indie gems that just flies under the radar but punches way above its weight. The setting is this quirky little Norwegian town in the 90s – think rusty old cars, punks hanging out, bodybuilders, priests, and all sorts of weird locals. Everything's fully hand-drawn, and it has this raw, gritty charm that feels like flipping through an old underground comic book. No polished AAA stuff here, just pure character and vibe. The humor is dark and sarcastic as hell – lots of crude jokes, booze references, and that dry Norwegian wit that had me chuckling out loud more than once.Gameplay-wise, it's a roguelike deckbuilder with a twist: you're exploring a hand-crafted map across runs, recruiting followers (like pyromaniacs or skaters) and drafting from hundreds of cards to build insane combos. The mystery unfolding in the town keeps pulling you back – something seriously creepy is going on, and piecing it together run after run is addictive. It's got enough depth and complexity to keep things challenging without being overwhelming, and the replayability is off the charts. Every run feels different, and I've sunk way more hours into it than I expected. If you're burned out on the usual fantasy roguelites, give this a shot. It's funny, fresh, and just a total hidden gem from developers who clearly poured their hearts into it. Worth every penny – wishlisted the soundtrack too because the tunes slap. Highly recommend!
Its not like super innovative or anything but the support party and the whole theming and presentation is just charming enough to keep me going. Soundtrack rocks! Makes me wish Norway was real.
Awesome game! 10/10. I was surprised at how good it actually is. A great deck-builder and also reeeeaally funny – everything from the card names, descriptions and synergies to the enemies, animations, surprises, music/lyrics and so on. I've had a blast playing it for 51 hours (all achievements), and still there's a little more to unlock. Amazing value for money.
Love this game. Dig the aesthetic, the music (so good!) and it’s a fun game besides. Lotta style, solid design underneath. An easy recommend for anyone who likes the genre, and a must play for anyone into the music/vibes.
Damn! This is a colorless-trash (I mean white, but I can't say it shhh) Roguelike Deckbuilder is way more fun than it should be. It is pricey and needs a demo for accessibility, but the music is a killer, I laughed more on some scenes than I should be (I'm old and I get some reference: smelly dog, smelly dog...), and I want to see where they'll go with the story. My only pet peeve is that the early game is too repetitive; it really needs some route to choose for the first 3 or 4 scenes, and not after
interesting and fun. very atmospheric, recommended!
The game itself is a fairly simple but good cardbuilder game. What makes it stand out is the absolutely wonderful packaging. The rock music, the 80s/90s-smal town nostalgia, the visual style, the comical elements, the absurdities. It is just a great game.
