Despite its relative high price and its average title, Skipper manages still to be a very nice and addictive puzzle game in my view. The game is quite poorly made for what concerns the user interface, you'll keep on seeing all the white windows and you won't have any option besides those related to effects and music.. so, despite being realized in Unity, the game does not make great use of the engine's potential. This said, the game itself as I was saying doesn't even include an innovative mechanic - it's one of those puzzle games in which you control a cube in a 3D environment, and you're asked to step on every tile and, at the same time, picking up the colored cubes (in this case of course) and putting automatically them down when stepping on the colored correspondant tile. Everything's done automatically and most of all you can stack the cubes, meaning that you have to think more on the path you'll make (you can't retrace your steps, so a tile already walked on becomes basically a wall and they will be marked with a black dot) rather than a strategy to pick up and put down the different color cubes. The game features more than 30 levels, and already during the first ones you'll have to deal with multiple cubes - it will definitely require some time to be completed, but the save function is automatic and you can always log off and pick up from the level selection screen where you left. I highly doubt that this game will have the trading cards that promises in the future, but it won't even be ever taken down from the Steam store and it's a very nice addition to your puzzle library if you're into this genre. As I said, it will definitely require some strategy and even if the levels and the free expansions don't offer hours and hours of playtime, every level it's still hard and entertaining, always challenging and, if played casually for some days, definitely funny. The soundtrack and the minimalistic graphic/user interface unfortunately aren't that great, but still the game can be completely played with the WASD keys and the R one to restart without many problems, even with the small video flaws it has. The lack of a tutorial isn't really important here - the game features just that mechanic of painting tiles, collecting colored cubes and reaching the end so really you just have to play with your movement keys and it's ok until the end :) Definitely recommended to all puzzle lovers: the overall game mechanics are nothing new at all, but still games like these are realized in a beautiful way for what concerns the pure gameplay and they provide entertaining and challenging hours!
one would think a simple puzzle game with 37 levels (7 got added after release) sold for 4 euros would have basic functionality, like undo (if not infinite, just the last step), separate volume sliders, properly working windowed mode and steam overlay, and a tutorial screen that doesn't just flash for 2 seconds, even if the controls are not very complicated. well, in this case one would be terribly wrong. differently colored cubes paint the squares to their respective colors, but they can't step on them again, unless another cube repaints them first. the goal is for all of them to reach the exit, basically by piggybacking on each other. as a concept, it's fine, the problem is with the execution and the occasional timing element, where cubes have to avoid getting shattered by tiny moving balls. they can also get impaled on sticks emerging from the ground, which are triggered by stepping on their switch, but instead of the switch not doing anything since a cube is standing on the stick, the cube gets destroyed, time to start over. controls aren't ideal either, though your mileage may vary. I'd prefer them rotated by 90 degrees, but ideally both would be available to choose. all things considered, even at 75% off I regret my purchase after playing about a dozen levels.
Pros + Puzzles! + Simple concept + Soundtrack is soothing Cons - Difficulty curve is steep - Diagonal controls with arrow keys - No undo - Controller support is floaty This game is a simple puzzler with a simple concept. It is easy to relax and just get lost in the gameplay without realizing how much time you've spent on the game. The soundtrack is very chill, bordering on depressing, but that adds to the whole 'island isolation' feel of the game so that is OK! This is about as far as I can give credit for. The negatives kind of outweigh the positives here. The diagonal movement mixed with directional arrow controls is kind of confusing at times. This wouldn't be a problem if the controller support was good, but I found that movement was delayed and 'floaty' when trying to use a controller so I would end up switching back to the keyboard. Then when I would accidentally go the wrong way thanks to said diagonal movements, I would have to restart the entire level because of the lack of an undo/rewind feature. At first, this wasn't a problem, but as the puzzles got exponentially more complex, it became frustrating to spend 10-20 minutes slowly plotting out puzzle movements, only to make one slight error and be completely stuck. Is the game fun and worth getting at some point? Sure. Is the game worth full price? Ehhh.... YMMV, but I have a hard time recommending it.
3 fiziki yapi tasini hareket ettirerek belli basli bulmacalari cozmeye calistiginiz puzzle oyunu. Deniz kombinasyonu sakin bir hava katmis. Sanki adadan kacis hissi uyandiriyor. Ama genel olarak bakarsak PUZZLE iste.
Played on Steam Deck. I was not expecting an actual challenges from the looks of this game. I really enjoyed the puzzle design, and the gameplay fit very well on the Deck, but the developer has obviously abandoned the game in an unfinished state. No 'undo' button. No music in the game just sound effects when moving. I checked the options too and there is a music checkbox but turning it on and off does nothing. Achievements have been broken for 2+ years. The credits say "new adventures dropping soon" but in 2019 three levels were actually removed from the game and nothing has been added since. There are bugs in a couple stages: level 27 a crossroads doesn't correctly register the correct color, and Cupid's Repose there is a bugged switch that sometimes registers sometimes not. And worst of all in my opinion the second DLC 'Maze of Love' is clearly unsolvable. The developer responded to questions about this level by referencing some QA of how the playtester solved it but the solution clearly doesn't work and there has been no activity since. Even for a sale price I don't recommend supporting this practice of selling unfinished games.
Great little puzzle game. The controls and rules are easy to learn, and the puzzles are just the right amount of challenge. The object of each puzzle is to get the 3 cubes to the exit square. When you move a colored cube onto a square, it changes color to match the cube. You can't move that cube onto the same square again, unless you use another cube to change it's color. In addition, there are some pre-colored squares that can not be passed until you pick up a mini cube of the same color and carry it over that square. There are various other blockades, like posts that drop with switches, and moving spheres that must be avoided. If you enjoy puzzle games that require brain power instead of twitch skills, then this game is for you.
A pretty short yet interesting minimalistic puzzle game. The aim is to lead color cubes to a particular place on a map. Some tiles are locked and can be unlocked by bringing a key (small cube) onto them. The main difficulty of this game is the mechanics that a moving cube leaves a colorful path of a color corresponding to it and the cube that left the color cannot enter the same tile again until its own color is on the top. There are a bit more than 30 levels mentioned in achievements - some are very easy, some are difficult. I am also sure I solved many of them in an easier way, unpredicted by creators. This is a minimalistic game without any unnecessary parts of environment. As for me, visually it was okay. Also the music in the background was calm. The only thing that was annoying was a lack of an undo button. Summarizing: Skipper is a little game that I would recommend to everyone to have a nice evening.
