Greetings Marshall: It's time to saddle up your trusty steed and ride out yonder to the hills, there's some bandits out there been robbing and killing folk like the law doesn't exist in these parts. With your trusty rifle and six-shooter, you will show them the law is still alive and well in the west. So come on partner, lets round up that horse and ride; there is killing to be done! Sierra Madre: The Wild West is an Early Access title and the first release on Steam by Broken Dreams Studio on Dec 17, 2018. and is in a very early stage of development. It is a western themed adventure game with some survival aspects. The title still needs a lot of work, but patches are coming about every 2 weeks adding additional content and fixes. They will be adding additional quest, npc's and additional areas to explore along with other content. The title has an interesting concept for a western game. There isn't a lot in the game at the moment, but there is enough to get you riding your horse while killing bandits; there is a lot of content in the works. You have to maintain food and hydration levels. There is no building or farming, but you can place a tent for saving your game. The only looting you do is from the bandits you kill. You will hunt various animals for their meat and skins. There are a few quests you can do in the game; they will be listed on a bulletin board in every town at the sheriffs. I like the concept of the game; it does still need a lot of work. There are a few towns in place to explore and a lot of traders and animals to hunt, using weapons modeled after authentic guns used in the old west. There is only one upgrade per weapon to obtain in the game at this time. As you ride between towns you randomly come across bandits who want to kill and rob you. Now and then you will also come across a none violent npc in the wild, so you do not always have to shoot first and question later. As this is in the very early stages of Early Access, if you are not excited to play the game in its current state (willing to help the game grow by reporting bugs and giving input on additional features), you might want to wait until it has reached a stage further along in development. @ Its current state I can only give a lower score. As patches are added and the title makes it to final release, I will revisit the title and modify my score. 5/10 Pros +Steam Achievements +Interesting Concept Cons -No Steam Trading Cards -Lite-on Content [quote]Key provided by developer/publisher for review purposes. Needs a lot of polish and some more substance. I would compare this to the western mod for Mount & Blade, and that has a lot more in it already with the same graphics and more substance. I see where they want to go with it, but I can't really reccomend it when you can get Mount & Blade for the same price, and basically get this game with one mod installation plus the whole of the M&B world. I also fell through the world three times trying to get to one quest. The gun play had no real weight to it other than slight travel time for the pistols. I just used the starter winchester and rolled my way over packs of bandits.
The UI is horrible, game play is worst, ambushed every 5 seconds, loot from enemies despawns within a minute, inventory has no information on anything. Alot of functions have no keybind Eg. no map key, always have to go to your inventory to switch things around. I've only returned a two games this is the second. Do not recommend at all. I do understand this is EA but there's so many better ways to handle the problems i have before even releasing the game. Sorry creators but i don't see how you can ask this much for a game even on sale.
Just reread the reviews of this game and I seem to be the only person who has noticed that the promo video looks nothing like the game you have just forked out a fair wad of money for. . So much worse.. That its Unity. That it runs roughly and it's nothing like what I thought I was buying but mostly it looks like crap....Refunded...
Just a heads up this game is very, very early access. You can check out a First Impressions video I made here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cPVn7ikTTc I still do recommend this game as it has so much potential and the details they included with thirst and hunger for the survival mechanics. It is quite challenging though as you will get killed a lot (3 shots to be exact). I shot a couple bandits off horses went on a wagon mission, and helped so villagers fight off some bandits all in an hour. Some tips that I learned 1. Keep your horses stamina preserved so unless you need to gallop, don't (you can't actually see their stamina yet). Your going to need it outlaws start chasing you. 2. You can't get wood from chopping trees, only from the trade store (I spent 20 minutes attacking a tree with a hatchet before I realised this). 3. Everything will kill you (I got mauled by a ram while trying to get to the next trade post). 3. Save as much as possible because you will probably be killed quite a few times, and we don't want you to go back to far. 4. The towns people are a-holes and won't help you kill outlaws. That is all incredibly fun game and I can't wait to see what more buildings, features, and weapons are released. 10/10
I see big potential in this game! Pretty good gunplay so far , transparent roadmap & community focussed Devs.
JUST UPDATED ! Good Job guys. I used to rate this game at its present stage a 6/10. Now I just raised it to a 7/10 But it has a potential to be an Ultra 10/10. The latest and best Western themed open world pc game was GUN by Activision, which had ugly graphic but great Story, Animations, Movie clips, Sounds, MUSIC ...and general Western Athmosphere. We cannot compete with RDR2, of course, but hey... GUN is a 2005 game ...and I think it is reasonable to, at least, point to a similar quality product. Now ... DEVS are SUPER nice and available, but the game is still behind the playability and Western "feel" that we all expected. Devs need to work VERY hard on improving and increasing the quality of SOUNDS, MUSICS ...and ANIMATIONS. On main character, Enemies, NPCs, Horses and wild animals. And first of all, make a good PRELUDE of the game...just like GUN had. Have a nice male voice that speaks when a new game is on, explaining that you are an Adventurer and a Bounty Hunter (more freedom than a Lawman). Explain that your Father was a hunter and your Mother a Native american. Have your character searching for both of them, after your Dad was missing as a Scout at the End of the Civil War and your Mum escaped from a massacre of her tribe. Make the Prologue as a Tutorial, where your parents were teaching you things about nature, sneacking, trapping, hunting, shooting and stuff like that, when you were a teenager. Make commands and buttons and actions much easier. Few and optimized. Make the xbox Controller work, it already does but some bugs destroy the use of it. ... and keep up the great job that you DEVS did sofar ;)
wanted to like it but it is so clunky, so little to do and the game has the feel of a game made in 2001, set on ultra graphics it looks like a half life 1 mod (refunded, definately not worth the price)
Sierra Madre: The Wild West is at the time of this review, still in very early access but it is already showing signs of great potential. Broken Dream Studios are very willing to listen to suggestions and are very quick to reply to them that gives me the impression that they are committed to making a success of this game. They continue to work on the game and to make improvements and I am confident that the game will move forward very quickly and will become more than a worthwhile purchase. Maybe still not playable enough for some in it's present format but playable all the same. I would suggest that you check out the latest You Tube video's and keep updated on the games progress.
