I played Badiya for a long evening, and I enjoyed myself. It's got a very unique feel to it, and I look forward to playing a completed version. However, you should be aware before buying that the game is (as stated) not even close to complete. I have explored far and wide and found each of the possible POI that can spawn. I killed a few animals, stole a ton of stuff. General shenanigans. Currently, the only reason I can see for anybody buying this game, is to support the developers in hopes that they are able to put out a solid finished product. As is, there is very little that I would call a game. I am still saying thumbs up, though, because I feel like it's a nice unique idea with a lot of promise.
Hate to do this to Early Access games... but when they are not even ready for ALPHA state, they simply should not be in the store. I understand that Early access is a way for them to do large scale testing of a product, but your product must still have some functionality for people to be able to even test it. There is also no auto reporting system, which means you must manually submit an email to let them know when/how it crashed I had to refund my purchase as in the hour or so i played the game crashed 7 times. every time you go into an area with people in it, the game mysteriously bogs down and then freezes. I have a more then powerful enough computer too and it still happens. I cannot recommend you buy this game at this time. [computer specs] 1tb HDD 16gb DDR3 Ram 2gb GeForce 1050 Quad Core AMD A10 processor 3.4ghz Edit: Please note this review was made on June 6th of 2017, major updates may or may not have happened since then, you are encouraged to do some research beyond my review. Edit2: Grammatical, clarification. but seriously this review is 2yrs old, the game is probably nothing like what i reviewed... i would hope anyway.
Has alot of potential and will probably be a really good game once more content is added, but I'd hold off on buying it right now. But if you really can't wait, It already has more content than No Mans Sky. Edit 01/12/17 Came back to check on this game over a year later, wasn't impressed at first, the game looked exactly as it did the last time I played. I Soon discovered they had added bandit camps and plane crashes (new locations to kill AI and loot) and there is now some crafting and base building. This game is definetly improving but it still has a way to go yet.
The developer has officially abandoned the game.
In it's current state, Badiya has enormous unrealized potential. While the vehicles are amazing both in control and in design detail, the player's controls are less so. The user interface is very clunky and some of the features from the trailer (boats, biplanes, locations) are not present (or at least I was unable to locate) in the actual game. The world is largely devoid of detail, the NPCs are bland, etc. This is all expected of a product at such an early developmental stage. I am glad I purchased this product, but if you are more fiscally constrained, add it to your wish list and keep an eye on it.
Almost 2 1/2 years ago Dev said they were "back on track"! Since then NOTHING!!!!! This game is dead AND incomplete, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!
I Really like this game and believe it has great potenial. Pros: Great optimisation with crafting. Good graphics Some neat weapons n tools Good night/day cycle Sounds and ambient sfx good Good adventures and lots of ways to travel. Cons: A few little bugs nothing major but developer is constantly working to kill these. Still solving a few keybinding issues. Conrol Pad keybinding still needs fine tunin (option to reload) That is all i can say about it bad wise. Great for an early access indie game and I totally Reccommend getting it now as by the time this game is finished with multiplayer in it the price will be sure to rise. As of now during sales this is a bargain!.
Badiya Got alot of bad flack for being quote "unfinished" but to me,people seem to misunderstand just how big of a deal this game really is not just for the gaming industry but also depiction of early 20th century arabia in the gaming industry. as an israeli(not jewish, btw: orthodox christian):arabia prior to the formation of saudi arabia and especially the GCC was always a big interest of mine and this game, developed by saudi arabian developers no less, even in its unfinished state: is briliant in so many ways: first off: there are a ton of "we're gonna drop you off in a wilderness and expect you to slowly and by degrees find resources,to build stuff to build clothes and tools to build crafting stations that will become a campe that will eventually turn into whole settlements" sorta games but: there are two problems in them that simply do not exist in badiya, even in its alpha stage: a) badiya isn't based on some post apolcayptic, pre sentient life, hyborian age of unfairness sort of reality: yes this is the desert of arabia, yes the deserts of arabia in those times were harsh places to live and yes: your gonna need to survive just as much as you would in subnautica or conan exiles but,the fact of the matter is: this is still the real world: There are bedu settlements, small villages, places were trade and commerce can happen... b)this game is set in the REAL WORLD: not a barbaric boris velajo faximily of the real world, not some pre civilization water planet, not a world occupied by dinasaurs or a version of earth full of zombies" but an actual real world setting: one that actually, maybe not in 1 to 1 accurecy as it is in the game but in fact: did actually exist, which should be lauded in it of itself in a genre so void of these kinds of things. and then theres the real kicker: alot of games let you take control of arab emirates in the pre saud and wahab merger into saudi arabia era in geopolitical scenarios and there have been games when you are taking into the modern UAE or Qatar or even saudi arabia, but never like this: a) the first thing to catch my eye when i started playing was stepping into a camp of beduins and being freely offered a cup of coffee: not only is that authentic to bedu culture of the era,but also? wholesome and beautiful: when the man there beconed me in arabic to drink with him: that honestly cliched with me on a deep emotional level b)this game can be played entirely in arabic, not a common feat: the closest of seen the games industry offer that is in just cause 4 and thats only if you set out to enable that c)you can become a legit falconer in this game, a tried and true tradition of arabia d)you can ride both horses and camels, and the way camels are dismounted from is the most realistic i've seen in th games industry to date e)you can clearly seen how the traditional world of early 20th century arabia melds with the modern world of imperialist europe here: the bedu will often only have simple dag rifles, whilst the "Europeans" have more modern weaponry f) you can actually choose how to wear a keffiyeh or shemagh! in different styles built for different weather conditions and you even get proper strap belts for that too g) the crafting is honestly modest but in a good way: no building temples or anything outlandish as that: you can only build what a man would need to survive the arabian desert and thats all i ever needed from a craft n survive game like this all in all: ignore the harsh critics in this case: this is no cheap attempt at ethnic cashgrabbery and even if its unfinished or even stays unfinished: its still the most marvelous depicition of arabia this humble reviewer has ever seen
Game was abandoned. Don't waste your money. Simple as that.
