Sharks and Minnows

👍 Recommended I picked this game up expecting a quick indie horror experience, but it surprised me with how tense it managed to be from beginning to end. Instead of throwing constant jump scares at you, Sharks and Minnows creates fear through its atmosphere. Every time you step into the water, there's a lingering feeling that something is following you, even when you can't see anything. That constant uncertainty is what makes the game so effective. The gameplay is simple to understand, but that's actually one of its strengths. You're always balancing exploration with survival, trying to complete your objective while keeping an eye on your surroundings. As the game progresses, the tension ramps up naturally, with new dangers appearing and forcing you to rethink how you move around the map. It never felt unfair to me, just increasingly challenging. The visuals deserve a lot of credit as well. The dark water, limited visibility, and overall environment work together to create an eerie atmosphere. You rarely feel safe, and the game does a great job of making your imagination fill in the gaps. Sometimes not seeing what's beneath the surface is much scarier than seeing it. The sound design is probably my favorite part. Every splash, distant noise, or movement had me stopping to listen before continuing. Playing with headphones made a huge difference and made the experience much more immersive. I also appreciate that the game doesn't overstay its welcome. It's a relatively short experience, but it's packed with enough tension that I never got bored. I'd much rather have a focused horror game that keeps me engaged than one that drags on for hours. If I had one criticism, it would be that I would have liked a bit more lore and story to explain everything that was happening. The mystery is interesting, but I finished the game wanting to know more about the world and the creatures. Hopefully that's something the developers expand on in the future. Overall, I had a great time with Sharks and Minnows. It's proof that a horror game doesn't need a massive budget to be memorable. If you enjoy atmospheric horror, survival mechanics, and games that keep you constantly on edge, this is absolutely worth checking out.
