It's a cool game, but no one ever plays it, all you will be doing is playing deathmatch with AI.
BAR FIGHTS! Upon purchase I went into this game expecting another multiplayer shooter this time in a sci-fi western environment, but what I got was much, much more. Immiediately upon opening the game I walked into a bar and got in a fistfight, my natural instincts told me to grab a beer bottle, smash it on the table besides me, and then beat the absolute F**K out of the dude in front of me, so I did. It sounds simple, but when all of that happened as fluidly as I planned it in my head and I realized I was puncturing this robot into submission, I knew that this was one of the best experiences I've ever had with my Vive. The stellar physics engine and hit detection made sure that I never lost immersion in my environment and I ended up hitting my walls quite a few times. The advanced networked physics engine and well-polished gameplay are what's going to help this title stand out from the multitude of other shooters on the platform, and I can't wait to see the game as it gets further into development.
In its current state the game is unbalanced and simply aggrivating. Who ever gets a gun other than a pistol is instantly the winner, there is no way to change teams nor is there a way to manually reload your gun that my friend and I could find, the game is $20 and you only get 3 maps and 3 guns. This game is no where near being worth $20. This could change in the future, but in its current state I cannot recommend this game.
(more detailed review later) Very polished and well presented, and gives you lots of toys to mess around with and create shenanigans with your friends. Toss a rocket-powered knife at someone and see if they can flip a table in time to avoid it. Crack a bottle on the edge of the bar and challenge them. Throw a chair at the chandelier and get it stuck there. Get your six-shooter - sorry, twelve-shooter from your holster and give them your best shot. Or just go play the piano in the corner. I really enjoy this game because you can create all sorts of scenarios. What's it called, emergent gameplay? I was hiding behind barrels waiting for my opponents to walk in, but one of them cracked open a shuttered window and shot me through that instead. Another time, I ran out of ammo in a close encounter so I grabbed a chair and beat him down with that instead. You can even punch each other out. Oh and, you can clap. You can slow clap if you want. still giggling at that one. The characters and items are so well designed. Everything has a "sci-fi western" feel to it. Did I mention the knives have tiny rockets attached to them? The characters look amazing. The hatchets are decorated with tiny lightbulbs. I think it's just refreshing to see a VR game with a polished, dedicated art style. Go toss horseshoes, roll barrels down the street, line up bottles and shoot them, stack chairs... everything can be toyed with. Key provided by devs, and didn't affect how much I enjoyed this game. It's very promising. With the level of polish already there, I trust the devs will deliver on their roadmap. It's also a great place to hang out socially and mess around while talking.
Cowbots & Aliens is a multiplayer saloon brawler set in an old-western town filled with Robots and Aliens. It's an absolute blast and does a lot of things beautifully that other VR games fail miserably at. If you like the Paintball mode in Rec Room, but are left wanting a lot more, this game is for you. First of all, the physics in this game are absolutely fantastic. Most VR games suck when it comes to object collisions, but C&A nails it. Every object reacts realistically, and there are tons of objects to interact with. You can flip over tables for cover, grab chairs and use them as a shield until they break apart, then use one of the broken off chair legs as a weapon, or just chuck shot glasses and broken bottles. Of course there's guns too, but the improvised weapons are a lot more fun. You can open every door and move anything on a hinge, even bash someone's head in with the flip-up counter. It's all totally intuitive. There's lots of fun objects, like a piano, horshoes, and a card table, and you can use almost anything as a weapon. You can stack objects on top of each other realistically as well, and even pick up big objects by using both hands. It's a lot of fun just to play around with the physics and see what's possible. The multiplayer is brilliantly implemented and the different game modes are all really fun as well. There's FFA, Team Deathmatch, "No Guns" and "Gold rush" which has two teams fighting over a bunch of gold bars. The "lobby" is a little western town with a tiny saloon and often has more people brawling than the actual game modes themselves, it's a great place to hang out and chat with people, or break a bottle over somebody's head and start a fight. The art style I think speaks pretty well for itself, but like many VR games, it looks a lot better than screen shots give it credit. Personally, I love the cartoony old-west/sci-fi mashup style, and all the little details on all the Robots and Aliens like smoking pipes and taped-on mustaches are really funny. This game can only get better as more people start playing and Devs continue to update and add more. Thanks Devs for such a fun VR game, can't wait to see more content in the future!
Experienced on the Meta Quest 3
You can view my video here: nope, doing a video would only show how out-dated the game really is I don't know why Chicken Waffle / Wizard Games Inc. are releasing this now on December 24, 2023. This is a game you de-list from Steam, not release out of Early Access. This was a good VR game back in 2017. There weren't very many good online multiplayer pvp shooters in VR back then and in this one you could pick up knives, beer bottles, etc. and throw them or even pick up a chair and block stuff with it. It was innovative. However, now in 2023, this game is out-dated and nobody is playing it. Although it has full locomotion (with smooth & snap turning options), you really have to use teleport. Enemies can simply teleport their way out of danger so you have to wait until they land in their teleport landing spot as there is a delay to when they can teleport again. The gun mechanics are all very simple. They have awful toy-like sights, and they have no punch whatsoever, plus they have slow auto-reloads as well. As you may have guessed, the TTK is very slow. The maps are not well designed. You'll get stuck in between objects (so you'll have to teleport). The spawn points are bad. While in its heyday of early 2017 VR it was near the top of pvp shooters, now it would be near the bottom. It does have bots and it has different game modes. So you can try it out by yourself, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you're playing with your friends and there is lots of booze involved. No one plays this game and it's meant to be played with others. Judging by the time I've spent messing around with bots I don't think it would be much fun with others anyway.
Play Horseshoes in VR in the lobby! It's fun. It's one of those pickup and play games that anybody can play. I thought it was a 1v1 game but to my surprize there was a bunch of people roaming around the lobby. We ended up playing a 4v4 match. You do have to change your "region" depending on the time of day.
A fun team shooter game where chairs are both decent weapons and impromtu shields. It's a great bar brawl, with lots of random items around for fun, frantic gameplay
Played this game with a couple of friends and it was a lot of fun! Most of which was derived just from screwing around in and around the bar. The game modes are fun though and the shooting feels really good. Melee weapons are a bit hard to throw and don't grab by the hilt unless you pick it up the right way. The graphics are charming and fit the game very well, and if you have friends to play with it provides for an entertaining sandbox to screw around in.
