It appears they have no interest in supporting their old software and haven't for at least several years now. They list Linux support for this, which was the only reason I gave it a try. But it seems at least since 2020 it has shipped with an outdated NWJS library with broken font support and other issues that make it basically unusable out of the box. Also it seems the tutorials are completely busted on Linux as well, and have been since at least 2019 and they seem to not care at all to do anything about it. So no clue really if this is any good or not since it ships is a broken and unusable state. Probably should stick with something open source and give this neglected cash grab a hard pass.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

This is a really good place to start with RPG Maker. The engine has it's problems, but what engine doesn't? The UI is easy to understand. The learning curve is fairly shallow to get the basics down. But the engine can do more than it presents if you spend the time. File structure is pretty straight forward. The real con I have is the engine is unstable. Probably the most unstable of the RPG Maker engines. The engine likes to crash, especially the more custom bits you put in. As a result, the deployment can be pretty unstable as well. The strongest part would be the Animation tab. Those are very stable (unlike MZ where the animations window right now will crash the engine. especially if you're running AMD heard ware) Compared to RMMZ, Plugins can be a little more rudimentary, but they get the job done. Overall, it's a good engine to start with, within the RPG Maker ecosystem. The difference between RMMV and RMMZ is kind of like VX and VXace. If you can, go with MZ. If not, this is good.
Really good way to understand how to put together a game without worrying about coding. Also would be a good way to get your own art into games if you make pixel art. It's really easy to test your game when making it, you just press play and you're in the game. I know there are plug-ins available from the community that let you do things you wouldn't think you could do with the game, like going first person. So once you learn the basics you can dive into that. I would recommend using the YT channel somerandev who has an excellent tutorial of everything MV has to offer.
A very popular game making engine, and suddenly decide to hurt all users on both emotional and works. I think the software just sold too good and the Gotcha Gotcha Games forgot who supported them.
Pretty fun and simple way of making games, but with lots of room to alter the base engine via plugins. I use it all the time, but right now I can't recommend this only because it's been crashing on me for a while, now. (Windows 10) It still works fine, but a random crash can be devastating for a more serious project. If you do get this software, save often!
Anyone who used this product knows how vital the forums and community is. They have done the following: 1) Shut down the forums. By December the whole thing will be deleted. 2) No archives are being made. The community is expected to handle this. More importantly, 3) while there is a new community forum, the terms in that forum state that gotcha gotcha games can monetize, royalty free anything you post there. On essence, while technically you own your work, anything you make is a source for their revenue at their discretion. This essentially makes RPGmaker, as a serious engine, worthless if you use the only primary site left The community is looking to recover, but no serious game designer can use an engine to make games where their own work is monetized by the company. Years of good will and community, destroyed in an instant.
