Adding text chat and calling it a 'MaJoR uPdAtE' was the final nail in the coffin. Glad they're bringing back foundational online multiplayer features, but a little too late. Doesn't seem like mod support is planned anywhere in the cards either so game will die like it deserves to.
1,000~ Hours in KF2, and KF3 is a Massive Step Backward I want to support the devs for trying something new, I really do. But the execution just feels incredibly poor. It feels like they took elements from Deep Rock Galactic, Overwatch, and Left 4 Dead, slapped them together, and completely lost the identity of what made Killing Floor great. The UI and matchmaking are an absolute downgrade. In KF2, everything was on one simple main menu. You could browse servers and get into a game with a 2-second button click. Now you have to click to go online, physically walk your character to a terminal, click play, hold Y to ready up, and sit through a wait of about 5 to 20 during queue. All of this takes around 15~ seconds. 5 second for walking, 10 seconds and more based on queue and matchmaking availabilty. And the matchmaking itself is a mess. If you want to check something else while queuing and hit ESC, it just cancels the matchmaking entirely and throws you back into the Stronghold hub, The game also plays Ping Roulette by randomly dumping you into high-ping servers. I constantly get thrown into NA servers with 150 to 300 ping. When I rarely get EU, it’s a decent 80 to 110 ping, but the game rarely prioritizes it. Then there is the Connection Loop from Hell. If the game fails to connect you to one of these distant servers, you get a "Lost connection" error that kicks you all the way back to the initial title menu. This loop alone is what made me write this review. Really what actually made me write this review. It is so incredibly frustrating to get booted to the title screen, have to select the Stronghold again, and do the extra walks back to the terminal just to re-queue. How am I even supposed to know if it's an issue on my end or if it's server-related? KF2 had server browsing, and reconnecting to another server was far easier and user-friendly. To make it worse, they brought over a notorious bug from KF2 that still hasn't been fixed(or maybe its a feature?). When other players join the lobby, the game completely freezes with massive FPS drops. I've literally been forced to downgrade all my settings to low just trying to figure out what's causing it. The only thing I extremely loved in KF3 is the weapon attachment customization, which was missing from KF1 and KF2. The ability to craft scopes, barrels, and magazines is all great. However the worst part is it forces you to lock your loadout in the stronghold before queuing. You cannot tweak your attachments or apply skins in the lobby. KF2 allowed for simple cosmetic skins on any weapon while in lobby.. As for the gameplay, it's a mixed feeling. I like the idea that you can use non-specialized perk weapons to gain XP, but it sucks that some of these weapons won't carry over the skill perks you've invested in(like extra pallets). Plus, the game desperately needs more weapon variety. I've put 8 hours into Engineer and Commando, and I'm already completely bored with their weapons. Combine that with weird design choices like getting instantly killed when you're hoarded or crouched something feels like left 4 dead which i am not into The game just does not feel ready. If I'm bored and want to kill some ZEDs, I am booting up KF2. KF3 is just a pain. KF3 Needs to be reworked all over again.
I had a LOT of hype coming into Killing Floor 3. I've been playing Killing floor since 2009, I remember waking up at or before 6am to shower before school, jump on the game and play a West London Solo Medic run with XBOW and lever action (Before the weapon nerf, the addition of medic guns, and prestige, and even then it PUMPED). All the additions of funny characters, maps, and classes felt like a genuine vibe to the game, it all fit and felt like it was a game made by gamers, for gamers. When killing floor 2 was announced for Early Access, I had so much enthusiasm for the game, the way it looked, the way you can feel the sounds of weapons & enemies. I was NOT a fan of the lootbox system as a way of getting cosmetics, sure you can purchase them from market place and blablabla but ♥♥♥♥ "Buy a key and open a lootbox" either let me get what I want or make opening the loot box free. 2016 Overwatch was the reason for this craze, however, Overwatch allowed you to get these box's for FREE and open them for FREE (I had only ever spent $20 on loot box's in overwatch 1 and that was because the first summer event). Didn't matter, killing floor 2 was STILL AMAZING, all the classes, enemies, boss (Because early EA only had the doctor but was still fun to fight). Providing continuous content over the years while REMAINING in early access and not releasing until it is done was the CORE reason early access was created, showing KF2 is a product of how to use a system for the people correctly. My only complaint is years later still no crossplay, otherwise, it's an amazing game. Killing floor 3 took everything that KF1 & 2 did, and shoved in right up their own butt. Again, I was genuinely hyped for this game even if the trailer wasn't amazing, I still had hope. I played the first BETA and I was copium HARD, I wanted to like the game because SOME things were genuinely good changes like crossplay (THANK YOU, I'VE BEEN WAITING SINCE KILLING FLOOR 2 DROPPED ON PS4 TO PLAY KILLING FLOOR WITH MY BEST FRIEND), and the addition of weapon modding allowing you to build your class specific to your playstyle, or even building team compositions V.S certain boss's where acid might be better vs using bleed. The problem is every other system surrounding the one good thing is awful. Maps felt too claustrophobic and always seemed there was a random twig or lamp you can get caught on. Classes did not feel impactful when reaching their highest Tier weapon even WITH max character, purple mods. No I do not think 10 hitting HoE boss is fun, but like 50. cal on a sharpshooter or a grenade from a demolitionist, even if it didn't 1 shot, felt good in old iterations because it felt impactful to do the thing your class is good at. Early game boss's were basically impossible on HoE due to multi hit moves that you can not avoid where they chunk for 90% of your HP even with max body armor and armor buffs. Doable? absolutely with a SUPER coordinated team. Frustrating? Yeah They also removed running backwards for a backdash, why? I get "realism" but it's iconic for both games. Where is robo chicken? And all the other fun characters I have in KF1 & 2? This just feels corporate and unfulfilling. I tried the game a few weeks ago and for some reason I was dropping frames now more than before. I might not have the best PC but it wasn't that bad when the game launched, still bad tho. I'm done with this game, and at this point, It's only going to be updated because they have to. Don't worry, they'll keep us up with "Big" updates being.... text chat? ya, You can see where this is going. I wanted to like the game, and I did enjoy it for what it was, but it isn't a game I can go years playing and enjoying each time I boot it up like KF1 or 2. Avoid this at ALL COSTS and just pick up Killing for 1 & 2 on sale for like 5 bucks a pop. If you can get over the jank that is KF1, it will be a forever classic in your heart. KF2 is just amazing so just buy that on sale (As of writing this review KF2 is on sale for $2.99 base game) Do better tripwire, please
dude take what was good in kf2, give me the sequel or the continuation in a logic perspective. Do not change the game, just improve it. that is what community decided and you owe my money for the incomplete game that i am struggling to digest from the bottom of my heart this game just feels unfinished in so many ways. give us back the kf2 voices, give us the weapons back, give us to the community the power to create maps and improve the game, give us the inf syringe and the old bosses and create new ones. After months the best you can do is uninstall and wait this to be a genuine real ♥♥♥♥ killing floor
Returned to try the game after months of taking a break. Game stutters and won't compile shaders after 45 minutes. Uninstalling once again.
After 190h in this game I can clearly say it's a failure. There is no new content, no balance fixing, even no fix of buds like not working ninja's ability for some reason that makes the class useless. There is no tactic in this game, you just shoot everything that moves till it's dead. In KF2 we had various ways to kill scrakes and fp, each mob had a unique moveset and tactic against it. Performance is horrible, every 5 seconds stuttering, maps are looking horrible for these requirements. At release we hoped that devs will make the game better, as they did with KF2, but I guess when they done with year 1 roadmap, game will vanish and servers are disconnected. I had some fun playing it, but as you understand how the game works or how the progressions works you see how the game is broken and they need many years of development to make something close like kf2. For everyone who considering buying it: DO NOT KF2 is much better, pretty cheap and always will be in my heart
Runs like a turd on sandpaper. Zed's look completely different. Game just isn't fun like KF used to be. Pretty much just a pile of trash. Did I mention it runs soooooo bad?
Everything you like is destined to suck ass and become unreal engine slop.
