I started to learn Godot during early 2026. Before that, I have participated in a game jam with some friends for fun creating levels with it, but I never really learnt how to make a game from scratch using Godot. I am now getting closer and closer to developing a full solo made grid-based puzzle game called “little froggy” where you play as a frog eating flies and adventuring the wild. Godot is amazing for developing games on all platforms, especially low end games and it’s so light, it takes no time for the engine to open up. I can just start writing code and develop games on my Macbook. Whereas with Unreal Engine, I refuse to run that engine on my Macbook. The scripting editor is fine, if you want to use your own IDE for developing such as Visual Studio Code or JetBrains Rider, you can do that as well. As well as there are 2 main languages for developing games in Godot which is GD Script and C#. I’ve been using GD Script and it’s been amazing. I know, it’s a Tab-Enforced language and it’s an optionally typed language where you can opt between static and dynamic typing. I tend to statically type most things, but I know people generally aren’t a fan of dynamic typing. Buuuttt, great thing about GD Script is that I'm not really good at programming since I just started to learn how to program and I’m very much doing it on and off, not all the time. And I found it really easy to learn and implement mechanics using GD Script, everything sort of just makes sense and while some things require some thinking, I can mostly just work on creating my ideas. I love that Godot can do 2D and 3D. And it does it really well for BOTH! There’s a game called “PVKK” coming on which is a more realistic 3D game made in Godot which looks sicckk made by the devs of “Dome Keeper”. Honestly, idk what Godot really lacks in compared to Unreal and Unity. Apart from maybe, it’s not set up in a way that is good for large teams and that’s why large studios don’t tend to use Godot as well since it’ll take time for large studios to adopt? idk. It just seems like a good game engine. But with all that being said, I think what’s really important to keep in mind is that the engine you use doesn’t matter too much, as we can pretty much create anything we want with any of the major engines nowadays. It’s really more a matter of preference IMO. Cause I’m planning to use Unreal for my next game I develop, just cause I want to. I don’t use Godot through Steam anymore. There was a time when I almost purely used Godot through Steam so that I could track the hours I’ve used Godot for, but I decided to just download the software on my PC and just use it without Steam at some point. It probably had something to do with using the software while not having internet access, so there was no real need to run it through Steam. Or, I guess the main reason was, I didn’t want the hours of a productive software track since it doesn’t really matter and I don’t believe time spent on a software really reflects the proficiency of using certain software’s, as there are inefficient ways to learn/use software’s and such. Also, when I see the hours of using productive software getting counted, it makes me a bit anxious or something. I’m not too sure how to explain it haha. TLDR: Great software. If you want to use Godot through Steam and you don’t mind or get bothered by your hours getting counted go for it, use it on Steam :)

Nothing needs to be said. The best thing to happen in game development in this century.
Better than Unity, Better than Unreal. More optimized, more capable, just outright is the best thing on the market for game engines.
Godot is a really good open source game engine where you don't gotta pay a license or anything to use it. just download it and create your games!
yeah, its pretty good great for developing games on lowend specs-very light weight too!
Still no .NET branch on Steam. Why? Who knows. But it means I have to manually update, it means I can't easily track my dev time, it means I can't use the Steam version at all since they're entirely separate builds. People keep asking for it, yet the devs keep ignoring us. Support for GDScript will eventually die out, as is not uncommon for engines that introduce their own god awful in-house language, but the devs are choosing to die on this hill apparently.
Momentum
Pace estimated from the game's recent review growth (our daily snapshots) at its own sales-per-review ratio — a momentum signal, not booked sales.
Engagement
DAU/MAU are modeled from peak concurrent players (≈×8 and ×28) — Steam publishes no active-user counts, so treat these as rough estimates, not reported figures.
