Fun spin on the vampire survivors genre. Has old flash game energy (which I like). The game revolves around abusing synergies to break the game. It's very difficult otherwise. For example, the shark guy can go invincible go underwater with his q and then kill stuff. You're invincible while this happens letting you abuse it to level up, getting you more invincibility. You use this to buy time for another ability to scale your damage permanently then you use a cleave weapon to clear for the rest of the game. Other examples include starting with a scaling weapon (shield or axe have a chance to scale your stats permanently) and running a character who can play the first few rounds with only abilities. You can play the early rounds greeding for gold items or stat-scaling items to scale damage or become invincible through armor scaling. Fights are hard but take place over 5 minutes where you can buy from the shop every minute. The five minute time limit lets the game be difficult while not becoming stale when you break the game (which you have to). It's pretty short but also it's five bucks.
Roguenarok is an excellent action roguelike game, which, in addition to the standard "arena survival" mode that adorns almost all games of this type, also has two completely different modes, Campaign and Battle Arena, which is like single-player MOBA style. For $5, hours of fun are guaranteed!
a basic cash grab game, there is little to no content, and zero replay value
Not the best rogeulite on Steam. Far from the worst. Its buggy and glitchy and I found it silly difficult. But the art is original and... its $5 so a slight thumbs up from me. :)
Underrated. I love it, cute and adorable Dino vikings, love the moba take on it as well. Definitely a Fresh VS-Like
Update: Changing to recommended. The developers fixed the balance issues in record time; the characters are faster and it's easier to maneuver around the arena. Despite the game's attempt to look different, this is yet another in the current deluge of popular horde survival games. Sadly, the game isn’t balanced. The game manages to incorporate some distinctive elements that stop it from looking like a copy-paste attempt. First and foremost, there is a campaign that takes you through five battles until you reach a ship. To be fair, these battles follow the same rules as a standard horde survival game: the aim is to survive for a set number of minutes. The other two modes are traditional horde survival and a structure defense. Regardless of mode, you begin by selecting a character. Three are available straight away, but the rest are unlocked once each battle in the campaign is finished. Each has four completely distinct skills and powers that will aid you in dealing with the enemy onslaught. When you're satisfied with your character, you may select its weapon. Each weapon has a passive benefit, and each character can use whatever weapon they wish. You must, however, pay attention to physical and arcane characteristics. These are the two primary statistics that indicate how much damage you are going to deal to enemies. Because a character is only good in one, you must choose a weapon with a corresponding attribute. If you try to use weapons that aren't a good fit for your character, you'll get a considerably lesser damage boost. Enemies have different resistance to both attributes, and some even increase it over time. You success depends on how well you manage between physical and arcane attributes. To make things fair, you get to see what kind of enemies will appear in the next battle. This enables you to select the best character for the job. The gameplay is typical of the genre. You move around and fight enemies automatically while earning experience points and money. The method is simpler since you do not have to walk over the resource to obtain it. It’s enough to just kill an enemy. What's new is how the game handles perks when you fill up your experience bar. The choices are restricted to the four skills of the chosen character. Furthermore, only the first three are available for purchase. The fourth power is unique in that it is only attainable if the other three are active. Each ability may be increased three times. The usual perks are locked behind gold. When an enemy wave is defeated, a store with three random items appears. Here you can upgrade your weapon, purchase a new one, or purchase an item that improves your overall stats. You have plenty of slots for items, but if you run out, you may sell an item for a much cheaper price. And the final unique feature are towers. These are already placed on the map and fire at enemy automatically. They'll cease firing when the circle surrounding them is depleted. All you have to do is fill the circle back up by moving close to a tower. Towers are critical because without them, you cannot win. So far, the game has all the ingredients to be decent. Unfortunately, the game has absolutely no balance for a standard horde survival game. One issue is that enemies move way too fast, and the other is that most weapons are useless. The only thing that works are those with fast attack speed. You witness this in the second campaign mission. While there is a way to cheese the stage by standing next to walls that the enemy has trouble navigating, the third campaign mission makes everything impossible. There are four turrets around the stage, but they hardly cause any damage to enemy waves due to slow firing speed. Since enemies come from all sides and you can’t outrun them, the game always ends in failure. And even if you somehow survive for a couple of minutes, the spawn rate becomes so brutal that enemies fill up the entire screen.
