A brutal godlike village sim that melds the god game, management, and tower defense genres! Fight off hoards of monsters at night, and expand your village in the day time. Inspired by games like Black and White, Rimworld, and Dwarf Fortress but not quite like any of them.

Yep this game is a winner. Since Ray added achievements and the goal tree it's been even more fun to play. It's really fun to build up your city and keep all the nasty monsters out, while slowly widdling away at their territory and getting rich selling items to the Catjeet traders. The magic system and god system is really interactive and cool, especially when you get powerful enough to throw comets at the monsters. Definitely worth the 15 bucks if you like resource management city building tower defense god games or any of those specific genres.
Very good and unique in it's kind mix of city builder, tower defense and roguelite elements all in one! Gave me very nice old 'Knights & Merchants' vibe from the start and then progressed into a tough Tower Defense. Don't cheese it by reading any guides, just play the game and explore by yourself. It's VERY difficult but also very rewarding. Cheers to Ray for making this gem! TLDR: Made with <3 by one dev, amazing game!

Thanks for adding achievements
-Game comes from a time when punishing survival crafting was the popular thing, so if you can't stand the genre avoid it -Badly programmed, the game reloads all the ressources every time I click a button on the interface, it randomly crashes at launch. If you buy it during a sale, make sure to play it within the 2 weeks refund window -terrible art, the quality is that of a bad flash game. The villagers are ugly 8x8 pixel sprites -no tutorial and cryptic interface -game very slow, villagers take forever to do anything, and it's very difficult to tell what they are doing, etc... -I didn't get to the stage where hostile appears because no interest. There's not even an interesting narrative or art style to keep you invested. The screenshots on the steam page look better than what a beginner can hope to achieve -no save, or at least I didn't see it on the interface
(follow my curator page GenXPlayers for more retro and indie reviews)
I remember playing this game for many hours as it was still in early access and I do still have a bit of fun playing it! However, this game now has to contend with the likes of Rimworld and it falls flat there as the characters themselves in your colony are essentially blank slates that do anything and everything. You can't control them individually and in that case it reminds me of some games like Simcity and such where you are more, watching over and trying to nurture this society as opposed to have full control over everyone's action or that they may have personalities of their own. The people you look after are generally humans, but quite often if your place looks nice you'll periodically gain more people from not just breeding but refugees who arrive and are instantly willing to work, though I like that fact they they're cat people with ear and tails! I'd imagine this would cause issues with the doggos you can adopt and help you transporting goods everywhere and fighting the monsters. They're good boys. Many buildings have a static and simple upgrade, but others like the housing can split into more luxury places that only slightly increase housing for others, but makes them feel more comfortable, slum like places with lots of extra space, but not too comfortable and an option that's between the two. I do like the idea of fighting off this corruption and even maybe one day completely filling the map, but that's a lot to ask for and even the fun little extras that you unlock, with added achievement intergration, can't keep my attention much anymore. It's certainly not a bad game, but there's much better out there. I'll still say, this is worth playing though of you've got a potato for a computer and can't run Rimworld with several hundred mods like I have!
Never had a chance to rise because the enemy kept turning my village into ruins.
Would feel like a powerless god as I watch my village get overrun again - 11/10
Early game is interesting and actually fun, you build, expand and find a good chokepoint to defend. The enemies waves are manageable and you're growing. You've put maybe 12 hours into a map, you get through winter and you feel good. Then it just goes downhill. Your villagers stopped being useful defenders ages ago. Your horde of golems get stun-locked to death and your towers are basically peashooters and building more isn't an option because you've hit the build cap. The game very frustratingly demands you play a certain way - build a base, survive and then migrate to another another sector. That's it. You cannot stay in one region beyond a single year because it gets difficult bordering impossible because your villagers, golems and towers do not scale and the enemy scales forever in both number and health, combine this with a limit to the number of structures you can build and it becomes clear you cannot last. There is an element of meta-progression that could save the game. You earn god-experience you use to buy random loot boxes that give bonuses. Except the bonuses are so miniscule and random you would need hundreds to stack enough to do anything, and the enemy scales faster than you can get bonuses. There are around 30 regions and the game doesn't seem to change much. It's such a slog simply surviving that moving to another region and doing it again 30 times just isn't appealing.
Very addictive game! Assign villagers to jobs and they will do their jobs themselves automatically. You do not give any direct commands. Though you can change priorities very easily. Music is very relaxing and addictive. Gameplay is good and you can change difficulty on the fly without any hassle. Achievements are great and give small bonuses at a time. Corruption is as dangerous or less as you want it to be. On traditional difficulty, it's very fun to learn the game and watch your village grow while being challenging enough. The ui is a bit hard to learn though initially. Not enough in game tips, that's for sure. It's more of a sandboxy game that leans towards tower defense. On traditional difficulty though, I've found out that it's possible to play in many different ways with many different towers. The "meta" of mazes and only specific towers and golems is not as important on traditional difficulty for a very long time. Overall, good game for the price! Some kind of end game hero or king or something would be cool though to keep it interesting in the end game per region. Something to make end game disctinct outside of enemies being extremely hard to kill and maze meta becoming mandatory.
It's OK, but it's not the most engaging city builder. There's just nothing really to do. Tip for getting all the achievements: Go after them on sandbox mode. Many rely on rare random chance.
