Unfortunately the game does not work with Valve Index controllers, it looks like nobody tested this with them. The grip is way too sensitive, making it almost impossible to not trigger it while walking around, shooting or just gently resting your fingers on the index controllers around the grip. The sensitivity should be made adjustable in the settings and default one should be way smaller. The game also shows a 3D model of a base station in your hand instead of the index controller when explaining how to use the slow motion ability (it really looks like nobody tested this). So the game is unfortunately unplayable for me at this moment.
I really enjoyed Resist. Feels great in VR. The onboarding and tutorials are excellent and once the swinging clicks it becomes incredibly fun.
OMG this game is amazing! You should buy it on the current sale! Looks and plays great on vive pro 2 with wand controllers (change the locomotion from default to smooth locomotion).
It’s an ideal, if imperfect VR game. It’s got a simple, well-polished gameplay mechanic and loop. You can tell someone wanted to do Spider-Man and Attack on Titan in VR, with the drones from Space Pirate Trainer. I can’t fault it, you should support the devs if the game sounds interesting to you, but what holds it back is that it was such a small team. These wonderful little VR games often feel like proofs-of-concept simply because the resources available to them don’t allow for much more. And the expected profits don’t bring in investments for more resources. The real star of the show are the swinging mechanics. They don’t look anywhere near as fun nor in-depth in the trailers and from streamer gameplay that what is actually in the game. Turn off arcade mode, use the simulation mode, it’s worth it. The game tells you it’s more rewarding and it absolutely is. One you master swinging, it becomes so intuitive and fun. Every video I’ve seen is played with arcade mode, and it doesn’t look anywhere near as fluid and satisfying. And you’ve got this nice little city to swing around in. The thing is, though, that city is quite small and the more you level up your character to swing faster and higher, the more apparent it becomes, to the point where you can swing across the entire map with a single grapple. On the subject of upgrades: you’ve got a tech tree that is as big as any mainstream AAA open-world adventure game. It’s very much like Spider-Man or something. Here you can see the developer’s dreams for a bigger game, having this full tech-tree of upgrades. But, because the game had to be compressed as an Indy game, you level up very fast and you will be unlocking 4 or 5 things at a time, sometimes, especially if you really get in the groove of gameplay and neglect open the pause menu. Some upgrades also “break” the intended gameplay, particularly the jet pack. I found myself, many times, just hovering and managing my jet fuel rather than swing through a challenge or battle. The final boss stood out as it was meant to be a chase with me grappling through the buildings as we ducked it out, but I often found myself just floating high above it and dropping pistol rounds on it. Same with the data breach missions, I’d just kinda hover and turn time dilation on and off. And it’s not like that wasn’t fun, but it was easier and I’d be interested in a difficulty option that disabled the jet pack and time dilation, so I wouldn’t be tempted to use them. The story is good. Nothing original: corrupt CEO, an assassination for power, resistance fighters, betrayal, very Mirror’s Edge, very Cyberpunk. It did help carry me through to the end, though, as the game started to feel repetitive. The voice acting is really good. I think other reviewers are being too hard on the player character’s actor. She was maybe the weakest performance, but it was still solid and never took me out of the game. The city itself is so small, but even then, it’s very samey all over. It could have used at least some color variation between areas to simulate a “borough” or something like that. It also would have made navigation less cumbersome. You’ll never get lost with the map and waypoint system, but discovering new minigames is fiddly because you don’t have a compass or anything to help you figure out which direction is that unscanned pocket of city. The minigames themselves are fine. They’re all fun, but some are more creative than others, like the jumping game and the obstacle courses. I really enjoyed the sign hacking games, but felt their difficulty could have ramped up quicker. When they did get challenging it became a lot of fun. I intend to go back in just to finish the rest of them. Performance is fine, but worse than I’d expect for the level of graphical fidelity. On a 5800X3D and 4080 to a Quest3 over VD, I was able to just barely get 90 Hz by turning shadows down to medium and turning anti-aliasing completely off With the resolution scale at 100%. It was much prettier when I first started it and the auto-config just maxed everything, but I’d rather have smooth frames and it’s not a realistic style, so I don’t mind it looking more “digital” with some jaggies. All-in-all it’s worth a buy, even at full price, despite its length. I finished it and the 50% required side quests in about 3 hours, which seems short for the cost, but it’s so nicely polished and easy to just jump in and play for a bit, I know I’ll come back. You can tell the developers had a dream, but recognized their limits and made smart decisions to get as close to that dream within their constraints
Very underrated. Competent fun VR game that helped me tackle my fear of hights a little. A bit short and i wish it had an arcade mode or something like that but still a great game. would recommend.
Not great, not terrible. A short game with a very bland plot, very limited set of activities, not relatable characters and a fairly boring skill tree and only two weapons. Finished the game, spent a bit of time to fully upgrade 2 out of 3 skill trees, did all the hack puzzles. Tried playing New Game+ but it just doesn't click redoing it again. Played on Oculus 3, didn't see any technical issues except for a few crashes when I spent a few hours hunting enemies for XP. During normal gameplay it worked fine and stable. It isn't broken, can be used to spend a few evenings, only worth buying on discount.
WOW JUST WOW . This game is definitely a hidden gem . The swinging from buildings and all the ways you can customize it to your liking. Easy or realistic. Super fantastic. The gun play is lots of fun . Especially with the slow motion feature . Being able to just roam around the city and do fun mini quests is lots of fun . The environment is great . And the story good . I definitely recommend this great VR game .
It's a recommend from me. Even knowing beforehand that you're swinging like Spiderman, nothing could have prepared me for how it actually feels. A true VR experience. You can't even come close to this through another medium.
Ever wanted to be Spider-man blasting with guns fighting a digital revolution? This is the game you need. It really gave me the feeling that this is what VR is about with great graphix. What a cool game this is and the grapplng swinging/slingering throught the city is really worked out very well and a lot of fun. The main story is interesting and there are a lot of points of interest or mini objectives to complete. Swinging around the city gives a great feeling. Maybe it is a personal issue but I found the difference in difficulty level between the different types of tasks to be huge. Some were quite easy, but a number of tasks that were not supposed to be high-level were still very difficult to complete. Oh and I played this streaming from my desktop pc with the Steam app on a Meta Quest 2 and that worked great.
