«Damsel»
Overview
Damsel is a small indie action platformer game created by Screwtape Studios. The game shines in fast-paced action, which will not let you breathe on the hardest difficulty. Although you play as a Damsel, the only ones who are in distress are the Vampires you fight.
Pros & Cons
Pros

Hothead difficulty offers the best experience as it is required to be fast and precise.
The variation of enemies and environmental barriers is satisfying enough for the whole game.
There are also multiple different objectives in every mission.
Combat overall is smooth, responsive, and enjoyable.
Art style and comic-like cutscenes are glamorous.
Leaderboards provide the motivation to compete with other players and replay the levels.
Arcade mode is available if you crave for more content after the campaign.
Cons

Each act contains 25 missions, but the maps repeat after time. Although the layout of objectives and enemies is different, it still gets a bit repetitive.
The first two difficulty options are unchallenging. Due to that, you can finish the game in two hours as nothing will give you a problem.
Story told in the cutscenes is uninteresting and dull. The same applies to the characters. It also ends without a proper conclusion.
Mouse does not work in the main menu.

In-depth analysis

Gameplay
The game offers three acts with a total of 75 missions. Missions can be finished in two minutes, even in less if you are fast enough. It depends on how many side objectives you do and, of course, how many times you fail. The major drawback is that levels repeat themselves after a while. There are 25 missions in each act, but in reality, there are only four or five maps in each act. As the game is a 2D action platformer, you move your character in four directions. You have a double jump and a dash at your disposal. Your only weapon is the shotgun and your fists. You can shoot in each direction, even while you jump. Objectives In each mission, there is one main objective that needs to fulfill for finishing the level. These objectives vary from rescuing hostages, killing all vampires, defusing bombs, uploading the data, and more. To complete the objectives, you must press or tap “E” repeatedly. In the case of data uploading, you need to hold your position near a satellite while more enemies spawn near you. Sometimes, you need to be careful, as the hostage can be killed by the player, as well. Enemies and environment There are various melee and ranged enemy types with different weapons and abilities. There are simple grunts, spiders, and floating vampires. Every enemy has their own health, which is symbolized by hearts above them. One hit from melee and ranged attacks take away one heart each. The very same rule applies to your character. The environment is your enemy, as well. There are spikes, exploding barrels, and lasers that disable your weapons. There are also red barrels that spawn the flying vampire if they are shot. Enemies also spawn via cameras which must be destroyed as soon as possible. Sometimes, you can use the environment against your enemies, such as poisonous or explosive barrels. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2000408038 Difficulty I do not recommend playing the game on the first two difficulty options. The length of the game is just about two hours on them. However, the Hothead difficulty fixes this problem, as it adds a twist making it harder. There are purple skulls you need to collect and each resets the timer. If the timer runs out, you must repeat the level as if you died. Leaderboards and other game modes The game counts two things: how much score the player obtained and in what amount of time. There are two separate leaderboards for that. The score is obtained by killing enemies and completing the objectives. The levels are short, so you can try getting a higher score many times. However, finishing a level in time or getting a high score is not necessary to progress. As for other game modes, the first one is an Arcade mode. It is a little bit harder from the beginning, and the objectives are mostly the same. If you feel the urge to play the game more and do not feel like replaying the campaign missions, then it does its job. The Chillout mode lets you play the game without worrying about dying. Here you can test the levels and find out the shortest way to complete the level with the highest score possible. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1986325978
Story
The humans and vampires managed to live together as the vampires drink a special beverage that stops them from hunting humans. However, the corporate behind this is power hungry, so Damsel must stop them. The story itself is just not that interesting, as it is told only via cutscenes that are way too short and not voice acted. The characters are uninteresting, unamusing, and unlikable. If the cutscenes were completely absent, you would not lose much.
Audiovisuals
The art style of the game is pretty colourful and you recognize the enemies and environmental traps easily. There are a lot of cool-looking animations, such as a flying colony of bats that forms itself into a vampire. You also receive a short glimpse of a story, between each campaign mission, told via a comic that looks good, as well. The soundtrack is alright. It fits the games’ nature, but it is nothing extraordinary. The sounds effects are on the same mediocre quality. There is no voice acting, so that is a bit disappointing. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2000407688
Games’ performance
The game was tested with an i5 8300H, GTX 1060 6GB, and 16GB RAM, running at the highest settings at stable 60 frames per second. The game is also playable with an integrated graphics card, in my case UHG Graphics 630, but the framerate is a little inconsistent there and can drop to 40-30 frames. I had a 1920x1080 resolution set in both cases. The mouse does not work in the main menu, making controlling it irritating, especially if you want to replay a certain level.
Final thoughts
Damsel is an enjoyable game if you play it on the highest difficulty setting, and you plan to achieve higher scores on each level. If you plan to rush through the story without challenging yourself, you should look elsewhere.
Damsel
Damsel is a very nice platformer shooter, I have only just started playing the game and it would only recognise keyboard and mouse which I did not like. The game is suppose to be full controller supported and it is, you must use this work around https://steamcommunity.com/app/452410/discussions/0/1634166237644573134/ as stated by the developer, if all done correctly your controllers should work just fine. Game plays like a breeze with controller now, certainly worth a purchase if you like what you see on the store page.
The infuriating lack of controller support makes this game unplayable for me. It's a shame, since I like the concept and graphics, but the constant issues with controllers made this game more of a headache than it was worth.

Follow The Cpt Froggy Club Curator Page for plenty more!
Damsel: ~~~~~~ Humans and Vampires coexist in the world, thanks to a drink known as the Red Mist. It’s a formula created by the Vampire Corporation which subdues all vampires and stops them from seeking human blood, allowing both races to live together. However, the Vampire Corporation wants to rule the world and has decided to change the formula by adding, you guessed it, real human blood! This is totally unacceptable and the agents of the DSA (Department of Sanguinarian Affairs) are on the case! With the help of her handler, Swan, and the genius hacker, Die-ode, Damsel is armed with an ultraviolet gun and sent deep into the Vampire Corporation Headquarters and manufacturing plants to investigate and stop the production of this new Red Mist formula. Otherwise, the humans are doomed! Damsel is a fast-paced cartoon-style platformer, developed and self-published by Screwtape Studios and released on Steam in October 2018. This game is also available on the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One. The game consists of a Campaign mode (which has three chapters with 25 stages each), an Arcade mode and the Damsel Dash mode. While you can re-attempt all the levels in the Campaign mode until you beat them, in the Arcade mode you only have 3 lives (or three attempts) to clear each level. If you don’t succeed, its game over. Damsel Dash mode is like the Arcade mode, but each level you play is taken randomly from the 75 levels of the game, which is fun. There are three levels of difficulty in Damsel: Chillout (you can’t die), Balanced (as it is intended to play), and Hotseat (must keep the skull combo alive; great if you are into super hardcore gaming!). Most of the levels can be cleared in 30 seconds to 4 minutes, but let me tell, you it is bloody insane gameplay! Each of the levels will have a specific task at hand, which might be to free all hostages, hack laptops or padlocks, destroy cameras, diffuse bombs or simply kill all vampires or coffins. Damsel will only have 3 hearts at the start of a level, and each hit she takes, a heart will disappear. She can gain an extra heart by kicking or shooting all red cans within the stage (the Red Mist drink). But be careful not to kick the red or yellow barrels as it will inflict great damage to your favourite agent. There are other obstacles to avoid, such as spikes, lasers and electricity, as well as these round blue thingies that propel Damsel violently to other spots within the levels, and most of the time it’s for the worst! Lose all your hearts and it’s game over! This is not the only way to lose a stage; if you shoot a hostage, or were unable to diffuse a bomb on time, it will be a bloody game over yet again! (I would like to apologise to all hostages that I shot by mistake; I am getting old and my reflexes are not what they used to be). You’ll also notice purple skulls scattered around each stage; this is how the combo system works. Each time you take a skull (run, dash or jump onto it) a number will appear on the top right corner of your screen in the middle of a purple circle. The circle will then start to disappear anti-clockwise, and if you don’t manage to get another skull before the circle disappears, the combo will stop. And of course, if you keep collecting skulls on time, it will restart the countdown (around 15 to 20 seconds for the circle to disappear). In the mix are a few different sorts of vampires to deal with. Some have guns or bazookas, and others throw bones at you. The big vampires (chargers) run at you, and the most difficult are the executives which fly around in a circle and throw explosive projectiles to make your life bloody hard. After completing a level, you’ll be ranked on two leader boards; one for how fast you finish the stage, and another on points. I really like the cartoon graphics and the illustrations between levels in the Campaign mode. The game runs well and you can play with your keyboard or gamepad. Personally, I played this game on 2560 X 1440 resolution and it looks fabulous. You can turn the audio on or off the audio, and the game has been translated into 11 languages including French, Italian, Russian, Korean, Japanese, traditional Chinese, German and a few others. Positives: ~~~~~~~ + Great cartoon artwork and illustrations + 75 levels to complete in the campaign mode + Arcade mode + Very fast and super fun + Achievements and trading cards Negatives: ~~~~~~~~ - Frustrating at times If you’re thirsty for a fast, fun and addictive platformer game with great cartoon artwork and vampires, don’t look further - Damsel is your game! 8/10 Key provided by developer/publisher for review purposes. Really cool game! I'm not the one who can react quickly in fast paced games, but even if this game is fast sometimes, I manage anyway! The movement is really free, double jumping, dashing, wall clinging etc, so you move really fast and smoothly without being an expert. The graphics are gorgeous, I really like the details in the background as well. The storytelling between the stages are done really well in comic strips, really nice touch! I found a couple of lines between the speech bubbles being on top of the text, but it's a minor thing to fix. All in all, a really cool action game!
He intentado todo y en mi caso es imposible jugarlo con mando de xbox one ni con cable ni de manera inalámbrica.
It had lots of nice elements to be a nice action/platformer, all gone to waste with the arcade style. The very short levels, make it insanely boring.
This Damsel is not in distress... She's kicking vampire butt! Clear out undead infestations and go for high scores! It's Fast-paced but has the most beautiful graphics... and also addictively fun! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Hwfpni4gFA
