Resident Evil Revelations will always be special to me. I played it back in the PS3 days, and it carries a lot of memories for me. I loved the atmosphere on the ship. Walking through dark hallways, hearing strange sounds, and never knowing what was waiting ahead gave me that classic Resident Evil feeling again. It felt like a mix between old-school survival horror and modern gameplay. Jill was great, the setting was memorable, and I actually enjoyed exploring and finding resources. The game may not be perfect, and some sections or side characters weren't as interesting as others, but I never really cared because I always had fun playing it. Maybe nostalgia plays a part, but some games become more than just games after a while. They become memories. This is one of those games for me. 9/10
It's a fine handheld game, but it's limitations are on complete display blown up on PC and using controls far more precise than the Circle Pad on the 3DS. It's small, plodding, terrible gunplay, snooze inducing gameplay, and really quite ugly. If you want some bite sized RE on a handheld PC, perhaps this can scratch an itch if you lower expectations. But otherwise I don't get how this game has a "very positive" rating, in all honesty.
In Praise of Resident Evil Revelations

Wow.
Just wow. Probably my new favorite Resident Evil game. I am blown away that so much care was put into a Nintendo 3DS title. I am also so thankful that we got HD ports on PC and consoles, and that this game did not get caught in Nintendo licensing hell (this could have easily ended up like Bayonetta or Goldeneye). I remember when this game came out. I was so bummed I couldn't play it because it was much more well received than 5 or 6 was at the time. Back then whenever I lamented Resident Evil jumping the shark and becoming a ditsy action franchise, someone would always say "But man, Revelations was so good", and I often blew them off with "I'm not getting a 3ds for one game". I should have.
A Great Step Forward
The levels and story pacing are great, and serve as the dawn of the new standard for pseudo-linear Resident Evil campaigns. We would not have the REmakes without Revelations. Revelations allows for plenty of backtracking, but segments the game enough to not overwhelm you with it. By the time you need to traverse the whole ship, you will feel more than comfortable doing so. There are plenty of flashbacks and alternate locations that exist in their own self-contained levels to provide excellent breaks from navigating the ship. Each chapter begins with a well-edited TV-show style recap of the previous chapter. Each chapter has 2-3 subchapters that typically feature an establishing cutscene, a cutscene or two within the mission, and a concluding one. This game has an abundance of cutscenes, but they are never cumbersome or annoying. They are all great to watch and pull you further in to the story.
Beautiful Ugly
The game is by no means perfect- it was made in a very transitional period for the franchise. This was the first time they dipped their toes in a traditional third person game featuring movement while shooting before RE6's debut. They got most of it right. Maybe better than RE6 did. There is some certainly dated and choppy writing throughout the story, but not enough to obfuscate any important plot points. There are some great twists and the writers constantly play with your suspicions throughout the campaign. Revelations is the only R.E. game I've played that allows itself to take a load off of the heavy handed nature of its story, and really indulge in comedy. Quint and Keith surprised me as some of the best comedic relief ever devised. Quint's callsign is literally "Jackass" which makes for some great comms moments. These goobers don't take much too seriously, and happen to be highly versed in pop-culture. They reference Marvel's Falcon and the Winter Solder (almost 10 years before the TV series even existed!), John Carpenter's The Thing, and The Day The Earth Stood Still. They remind me of the pair of "eloquent thugs" from Sin City. The monsters are intriguing and very weird. Their designs often don't make sense. Rachel's hair has a mouth. The scagdead has an organic rotary saw for an arm. The globsters are stupid oversized animate blobs with a mouth underneath. One of the ooze variants has an organic crossbow for an arm. They all look pretty goofy in comparison to any other installment's creatures, but for some reason I don't hate them. They're kinda charming in their own right and I could hear Sebastian Crab's Under the Sea playing in my head throughout the game. They're a wet and weird marine life interpretation of B.O.W's, and they exist in the vacuum of this T-Abyss side story.
A True Arcade Mode
And then there's Raid Mode. I am rarely ever compelled to jump right back into New Game+ right after beating a campaign. So I wasn't expecting much from Raid Mode. But holy hell it's so good. Raid Mode chops up the game's locations into linear challenge levels that feature heavy action, limited navigation, and a huge selection of characters. Each run takes usually under 10 minutes. The main challenge to master is completing each segment without taking damage, eliminating every enemy, and playing at the appropriate character level. By the time you complete a handful of these "Trinities", you'll be wondering how you ever died at all playing the campaign. It makes you into a beast at the game, and there are fun variants of each monster to mix things up. The various characters have super-unique perks and abilities that are wildly fun to employ.
If you haven't played this gem yet, you really owe it to yourself. It's a whole boatload of fun with a ensemble of highly original characters and creatures.
Uma grande e grata surpresa!
It would be an absolute exaggeration to say that it's as good as RE5 or RE6, but overall it's quite short and fun. The biggest problem with the game is the poor and disjointed storytelling. Other problems are the unresponsive dodging mechanics and how simplistic the gameplay is compared to the previous games but since it was originally made for a handheld console it can be forgiven. Overall, the game is short and enjoyable to play and I'd recommend buying it when it's on sale.
A great entry to the resident evil franchise. First entry I've ever played years ago
What can you truly say bad about this one?Amazing game. The only downside would be the multiplayer achievements for which I highly recommend using a trainer cause nobody is playing RAID mode anymore.
