It's very fun but I can see why it shouldn't have been the future of the franchise :D
For 3 hours gameplay with friend, very enjoyable. 3/10
People weren't lying... RE6 really does feel like a Michael Bay movie turned into a game. It has some of the worst-designed campaigns in the series, packed with baffling decisions. Whether it's the absurd number of QTEs or the over-the-top set pieces, the game constantly sacrifices fun for spectacle. I don't mind Resident Evil being action-focused. RE4, RE5, and the RE4 Remake all proved you can make an action-heavy Resident Evil that still feels great to play. RE6, however, mistakes constant explosions and scripted sequences for good action. It doesn't help that the game just looks... cheap to me. The UI feels cluttered, and while I appreciate that they gave each character their own menu style, it ends up looking messy more than anything. I think they should've just stuck to one clean, consistent design instead of giving every campaign its own UI. The visuals are just as inconsistent. Some moments actually look pretty good, but then you'll run into textures that are downright ugly. It almost feels like the game expects you to sprint through every level without stopping to look around for more than a few seconds. The combat is... okay, I guess, even if most of the weapons feel like pea shooters. But I just can't get over how poorly designed so much of the game is. What were they thinking? Leon’s campaign almost drove me insane. It tries to lean into horror, but it completely misses the mark, ending up as the slowest and most boring campaign in the game. Chris's campaign is basically Call of Duty. Moving on. Sherry and Jake's campaign was the only one I genuinely enjoyed. Sure, it still has that signature "RE6 stinker" in places, but the character dynamics were actually interesting, and some of the gameplay wasn't half bad. Jake was the only new character I found genuinely interesting, and for a while even the story managed to grab my attention because of him. Ada's campaign... whatever that was. For some reason, it's designed as a solo campaign. Yeah, you can play it with a friend, but it clearly feels like co-op was tacked on as an afterthought. Who thought it was a good idea to end a co-op game with a campaign that's supposed to wrap up the whole story... solo? To make things even worse, the game sends you back through some of the weakest sequences from the other campaigns, except now you're seeing them from Ada's perspective. And yeah that "stealth." It's clunky, janky, and feels completely out of place. That's kind of RE6's biggest problem as a whole. It tries so hard to be everything at once. Horror, military shooter, action blockbuster, stealth... it throws all of it together, but never really masters any of those styles. Instead of doing one thing really well, it ends up feeling all over the place. RE6 is one of the few Resident Evil games I'm pretty sure I won't be replaying anytime soon. It's supposed to be high-octane action, but so much of the game has you slowly walking around, waiting for doors to open, or sitting through scripted sequences. For a game that's constantly trying to be explosive, it spends a surprising amount of time wasting yours. That said, I'd still say that Co-op was the only thing that kept me going. Laughing at the game's ridiculous moments with a friend made it somewhat enjoyable, but I genuinely don't think I could stomach playing through it solo. This is one of the few Resident Evil games I have no desire to replay.
