In a significant shift for PC gaming, publisher 2K Games has silently activated a new verification system within its titles, forcing players to reconnect to the internet every two weeks to verify ownership—even for single-player content. This aggressive update, implemented in partnership with anti-piracy firm Denuvo, effectively kills the concept of indefinite offline play for several major franchises, sparking immediate backlash from digital rights advocates and consumers. According to recent findings by a game pirate, the new mechanism utilizes a “fixed offline authorization token” embedded in games such as NBA 2K25, NBA 2K26, and Marvel’s Midnight Suns. Unlike previous iterations of Denuvo, which only required re-authentication when a user changed significant hardware components like a graphics card or motherboard, the new token automatically expires approximately fourteen days after issuance. Once the timer runs out, the game refuses to launch until the user reconnects to the internet to generate a new key.
Never really been bothered by Denuvo and its performance impacts. Until now, when 2K sneakily added some silly 14 day token refresh to a 4 year old single player game. Forcing you to log in online to verify the integrity. When I was younger I never really cared about such things as consumer rights and bla bla. But as I've gotten older my tolerance for anti-consumer behavior has dramatically changed. Generally I do not like the concept of "review bombing" but it do has its merits. Screw anyone who indulges in Denuvo generating revenue for those who invest in it. The time, effort and money put into Denuvo could've been spent on something meaningful instead. Wanna fight pirating? Make consumer friendly products. This game is otherwise fun. Denuvo is just a deliberate scheme for suits to earn money on a problem that is non-existent.
Was enjoying it. Till I found out you can't play the game without an internet connection, no wonder I'm getting questionable ♥♥♥♥♥♥ performance thanks to denuvo.
This is a wonderful game that I thoroughly enjoyed. 2K have retroactively added 14 day online drm checks which is tantamount to a criminal seizure of goods they already profited from the sale of. Do not buy this or any other 2K game if you care about game preservation or ownership rights. https://steamcommunity.com/app/368260/discussions/0/841752762653882055/
As someone who doesnt care at all about Marvel and superheroes, this is a fantastic game. The combat is rich. The animations and beautiful. The writing is great.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a unique and surprisingly deep strategy game that blends Marvel characters with turn-based tactics and card-based gameplay. The combat is one of the strongest parts of the game. Using cards to control abilities adds a fresh twist, and each character feels different, which keeps battles interesting and strategic. The roster is also a big highlight. Seeing characters like Iron Man, Blade, Ghost Rider, and others interact is fun, and they all have their own playstyles that make team-building enjoyable. Outside of combat, the social and relationship systems add another layer to the experience. However, I do wish some parts of the game were more tidied up, as certain systems and interactions can feel a bit messy or not as polished as they could be. Overall, Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a solid and unique Marvel game with a lot of depth. It’s enjoyable, but it could have been even better with a bit more polish. Gameplay: 7/10 Good | Overall: 7/10 Good
Add, please, Ukrainian localization.
This is such a weird game. Mind you, I enjoyed it, but it feels like the developers wanted to make 4 different games. The promotional material makes it feel like it is going to be a grim, gritty, dark action game. Like a Marvel version of the Arkham games. But that is not at all what this game is like. Instead, it is mostly about tactical turn based combat in the vein of Firaxis' earlier XCOM games. But much more upbeat than either the promotional material, or the XCOM games. And with 2 extra games tacked on. Like I said: weird. The tactical turn based combat is fun. You do missions with well known Marvel characters (or The Hunter; who you get to create) rather than randomly generated nobodies. Each character has a distinct style and distinct moves that feel appropriate to the comics. Unlike the operatives in XCOM, they are not at all fragile, and if they do go down, they will recover after a few missions. You also don't need to hunt for opponents. You are dropped into a pretty small arena where all enemies are fully visible. (Though reinforcements often arrive in subsequent rounds.) These arenas are usually full of environmental objects that can be used. E.g. you can knock enemies into electrical equipment to stun them, pick up boxes to throw at enemies, etc. Spider-Man in particular really specializes in using these environmental objects, and that feels very appropriate to the comics. Another big difference from XCOM is that combat is performed by playing cards. Each character has their own deck of cards that can be expanded and modified by doing research, crafting, getting rewards from mission, etc. The decks from all characters participating in a mission are added together and then you get to draw a number from those. What I really like about this, is that while there is randomness in what cards you get, the effects from the cards themselves are almost always entirely predictable. So no more failed missions because your veteran operative missed two 95% shots in a row. The combat is fun and you have a good number of different characters you can take along to change things up. However, most characters don't have very many different cards in their decks and enemy variety is pretty limited, so I don't know how much replayability this game has. But wait, I told you that it feels like the developers had 4 different games they wanted to make and we've only covered two. In between missions you're in your base of operations where you can do research, crafting, etc. Here you also hang out with your teammates. You can talk to everyone, lounge in the pool, train, help people with problems, play video games, go on a picnic, join a book club, prepare a birthday party, etc. Hopefully, you'll get to be good friends with everyone, which confers various combat bonuses. This is not unlike a dating simulator kind of game. Very, very different from the tactical combat game. I found it fun, but not as much fun as the tactical combat, and it does take up quite a bit of time. Of note (especially considering all the marketing that wants you to believe that this is a grim game in the dark corners of the Marvel universe), nearly everyone is super chill, friendly, happy, and easy to get along with. For instance, if you're expecting Wesley Snipes' Blade, that's not what you get in this game. This Blade is pretty chatty, starts a book club, has a cute crush, etc. The other thing you can do in between missions is explore the grounds outside of your base. This is basically a walking simulator. There are a number of different landscapes here, full of collectibles, some simple puzzles, crafting ingredients, etc. This is easily the least interesting part of the game, and it really doesn't have all that much to do with Marvel. I'm a completionist, so I did solve all the puzzles and got all the collectibles, but I don't feel that it was a great use of my time. So, those are the 4 games that are Marvel's Midnight Suns. The Legendary Edition adds 4 DLC, each containing a new character and additional missions. All of them fit in well with the base game. If you enjoy the game, I would recommend getting the DLC too. Is this game for you? If you're looking for fast paced action, then definitely not. If you like turn based tactical combat, deck builders, and you like Marvel and would like to talk/hang out with some of their well known characters, then do definitely give it a shot. That's super specific, but with a game this weird, I can't give a simpler recommendation Final notes: 1) This game uses Denuvo with a 5 machine activation limit. That's just dumb and pointless. The game is almost 4 years old now. Firaxis/2K should remove that with a patch. 2) I played this on an OLED Steam Deck. Didn't change any settings. It plays very well.
First SONY with the 30 days token and new 2K 14 days,we need to fight denuvo and SONY
Criminally underrated. The combat is like XCOM except minus 3 turns of moving your units closer and missing 80% hit chance shots, The dialogues and characters are great with distinct personalities, arcs and motivations. Obviously, don't expect RDJ to voice Tony Stark. Cool story, good endgame and NG+ content. P.S. Very playable with 1.5 hands if you happen to have a broken wrist
