After finishing the entire Resident Evil marathon from RE0 to RE6, I can honestly say... RE6 surprised me. Before playing, I was expecting the worst because of everything I had heard over the years. Instead, I found a game that, while far from perfect, was much better than its reputation. The biggest strength is the campaign structure. Seeing the same global outbreak from four different perspectives keeps the story interesting, and watching the events slowly come together was genuinely enjoyable. Leon's campaign was easily my favorite, bringing back the horror atmosphere and mystery I love. Chris' campaign felt much more like a military shooter, which wasn't really my style, but it still had emotional moments. Jake and Ada added important pieces to the overall story. The gameplay has its flaws. The inventory and controls can be frustrating, and sometimes the game throws too much action at you. Not every boss fight is memorable, although a few were fantastic. The pacing can also be uneven between campaigns. What I don't understand is why so many people say the story is terrible. I think RE6 is much easier to appreciate if you've actually played the previous games. Knowing Leon, Chris, Ada, Sherry and the history of the series gives many scenes far more emotional weight. If RE6 is your first Resident Evil, I can understand why the story feels confusing. In the end, I had a great time. It may not be the best Resident Evil, but it definitely isn't the disaster many people claim it is.
playing this game is a form of self harm.
