Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (1999) – The Greatest Stalker in Gaming In April 2026, Capcom released the original Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (1999) on Steam alongside the rest of the classic trilogy. This is the authentic 1999 experience, now with modern PC rendering improvements, scaling options, and display settings, and it remains one of the most intense and replayable entries in the entire series. Atmosphere & The Nemesis Nemesis is the undisputed star. This towering, relentless bioweapon pursues you across the collapsing streets of Raccoon City with terrifying persistence. Unlike Mr. X in RE2, Nemesis is faster, smarter, and actively hunts you across multiple areas. His guttural roars, rocket launcher phases, and constant interruptions of your exploration create unmatched tension. The city itself feels alive and doomed. From the initial streets to the Clock Tower, Hospital, and Factory, every location carries a sense of urgency and decay. Jill Valentine is a fantastic protagonist, capable, determined, and perfectly suited for this desperate escape. Gameplay & Mechanics RE3 refines the formula with more emphasis on action and set pieces while keeping its survival horror roots. The Live Selection system lets you make critical choices during key moments, leading to different paths and endings. This adds meaningful replayability without overcomplicating things. Exploration is more directed than in RE2, but the game compensates with excellent pacing and memorable encounters. Resource management remains tense, and the increased combat focus (especially against Nemesis) feels exhilarating rather than overwhelming. The tank controls and fixed cameras are unchanged from the previous games — deliberate design choices that heighten vulnerability and cinematic tension.| Story, Endings & Mercenaries Jill’s story of survival and escape is gripping, with strong supporting characters like Carlos and Nikolai. Multiple endings based on your choices encourage repeated playthroughs. The real hidden gem is the Mercenaries mode — a fast-paced, score-attack mini-game that became legendary. It’s addictive, replayable, and one of the best bonus modes in the series. Minor Caveats Some later areas (particularly the factory) feel slightly rushed compared to the excellent early-to-mid game. The game is also shorter than RE2, and certain sections rely more on combat than pure horror. These are small complaints against an otherwise outstanding package. Final Verdict Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is peak classic Resident Evil. It delivers the most terrifying and persistent antagonist the series has ever seen, pairs it with a desperate race against time across a dying city, and backs it up with excellent gameplay and one of the best bonus modes ever made. While it’s slightly more action-leaning and shorter than its predecessor, the sheer intensity of Nemesis makes it an unforgettable experience. Score: 9.2 / 10 Iconic antagonist. Relentless tension. Must-play classic. One of the best entries in the original trilogy and a high point of 90s survival horror, now perfectly preserved on Steam.
Meraviglioso.
Although I'm recommending the game because it is a very nice piece of gaming history worth looking into, it isn't my favorite of the original trilogy. I do love the introduction of Nemesis, but the gameplay feels very clunky specially the dodge mechanic.
Call me a chegglo egglo full of shmegglo on a fortegglo but I think the resource management is by far the most interesting part of these original games
Not the best one in trio, but definitely worth playing. High tempo and more action isn't what I want from this game series actually (that's why I hate other RE games except original trio) so this game does well on mixing those elements with original survival horror style puzzle solving games. I guess that's why I wasn't bored and stopped playing the game when I got pissed by controls, some hardly avoidable enemy placements and limited save slots.
