My current experience within 4 - 5 runs : Me : Build what i consider to be a strong deck and obtain quite alot of arifacts and passive, quit difficulty but i've got this - run into enemies that Buff, Debuff and throw status' at you all in one turn. Seems op but ok, throw a few hits and blocks, turn ends, Get debuffed to the high heavens, debuff forces me not to block, debuff forces me not to attack, cant do anything, thats fine i'll wait a turn - next turn, can attack but can't block, but debuff causes attacks to cost way more energy - oh wait the enemies have loads of block or dodge, can't do anything, thats fine - next turn tho, oh wait my hand is full of statuses except one attack, throw one attack - thats fine next turn i've got this. By now the enemies have buffed themselves so much that even a low roll takes off most my health. Im dead. Am i suppose to find this fun? Being a literal sitting duck? Its not. I'm not sure i could recommend this game in it's current state, i want to as it has so much potential to be something great! but perhaps it's just my experience with it but the game - more often than not just leaves me feeling frustrated than anything else. Enemies : They just seem to high roll nearly all the time, whats with that? I must be the unluckiest man alive? And this is even with the "You are luckier", little joke there. But seriously besides the constant high roles, whats with the crazy and i mean crazy amount of debuffs that enemies can place on you? Feel way more like a debuff manager than a dice roller deck builder. I initially bought this game after watching Retromation play it, loved the idea of it so gave it a go myself. Perhaps i'm just not a god at strategy games like he is but i'm not having a very good time at all. I got a win my first run but even then. If anything, please look into reducing the amount of debuffs, buffs and status' the enemies can place on you and themselves at any given time, they're just constantly debuffing and buffing themselves, it really just doesn't feel good. It always feels like i'm playing catch-up, never once to i feel ahead of the curve - even in draft mode. Also debuffs that don't allow you to attack i can understand, but a debuff that doesn't allow you to block? Just feels wrong.
While some of the game's mechanics aren't super clear at first, this is a pretty clever Slay the Spire card game with dice. An example, play the "Fist" card which does 1d6 damage to your opponent for 1 energy or play "Shield" for 2D4 defense points.
A really nice game that reinvents the genre of a card game. The developer is very active in discord so you could always ask them anything about the game.Had a lot of fun with this one and will play it more in the future. Also its really cheap!
Fantastic deckbuilder. You will get a lot of bang for just 5 bucks. While it shares a lot of the innate features of StS, the additional mechanics in this game feel very refreshing - definitely has that "I need to build this kind of deck next" feeling to it.
I have given them some time now to balance the game. They haven't bothered to. Buy another game froim a company that cares if it is good.
I love this game! If you liked Slay the Spire, this is like Slay the Spire Lite. The art style is unique and pleasant with a somewhat retro vibe to it. I've made some fun combo decks. So far, there have been regular updates polishing the game to a more refined level. Big props to the small developer for this fun take on deck builders!
EDIT: I'll edit in a whole new review after a few more hours with the game, but I've switched my negative review for a positive. Literally within a couple of weeks of my review the developer released an enormous patch with both content and fixes, and so far it's going great. The original review below is no longer up-to-date. Original Review below: This is a REALLY good Slay-the-Spire variant, with a developer clearly providing a breadth of strategy and decisionmaking along with a fairly decent variety of enemies and good pacing. The issue is that this is almost certainly the buggiest non-Early-Access card game (or dice-game) I've seen. I played about five runs, and in every run I came across at least one card, artifact, or event that was bugged - sometimes to such a degree that some cards fail to function or events fail to reward me, and I ended up continuously restarting my runs to find strategies that didn't have at least one bugged card or effect and instead just kept finding more bugs. A review of the Steam discussions indicates that some bugs I'd encountered - like all of my attacks just doing double damage for no reason - were reported a couple of months ago. I'd happily amend my review with more details about the game if there are more fixes, but right now this does not feel like a v1.0 release.
Solid Roguelike. I didn't think I would be a fan of the dice, but they grew on me. The proficiency mechanic does a great job of helping you value different cards from run to run, and makes you debate whether to pick up a card and bank on finding that proficiency upgrade (though getting one requires some luck). The potions are also very meaningful in this game - they can be very impactful, and are relatively cheap in the shops. Super fun and definitely worth the price.
Already a steal at five dollars and I'll definitely be playing more. Similar enough to Slay the Spire to be familiar but different enough to be its own thing. A great time
Very clever, very fresh, lots of new and interesting mechanics, but ultimately poorly balanced. The combination of card and dice mechanics turns what is, in other games, a pretty tightly balance genre, into a suuuuuper wide range of possible outcomes for any and all actions, and little to no ways to manage that huge amount of variance as a player.
