It's a surprise to me that this game is recommended so highly, the game is pretty tedious, boring, and overall just a slog to get through. The game is buggy to hell and back, occasionally, the game would stutter mid jump, causing the player to do an additional jump, and if you happened to be on your raft during a surge of heavy waves, you can actually take a chunk of fall damage, I even died one time when this occurred. Sometimes hits just don't register, online worlds would just crash and say the connection was lost (even for the host), among various other things. That's not even including weird performance stutters, I won't lie, I have a five year old pc, but I can run so many other games with better frames and visuals than this one. Gameplay is not much better, it's the same repetitive tasks, go to island, loot, expand raft, fight off shark, go to island, loot, there's a bit more to it, but that's the general gameplay loop. Once you get engines, it turns into "wait until you get to the next story island". Dying in game is also just badly designed. If you die, you lose 2/3rds of your inventory at random. Seems simple enough, but it doesn't value items the same way. Dug up some titanium? All of that is gone but good thing it kept a majority of your wood! Durability also decreases by 2/3rds overall at seemingly random. Sometimes the tools just disappear, other times they just stay and keep roughly the same durability? Oh, and if you thought you could maybe return to your death point to retrieve any of your items, tough luck, because there's no way to retrieve your items, even if you died right next to your raft. Even for basic survival game elements it somehow feels worse to play. At the start when you're just trying to find the next plank to purify another cup of water to not dehydrate, it's enjoyable, but it then becomes somehow even worse of a chore than many other survival games. Food and water deplete so fast it's not even funny. When you eventually get to purify water automatically, it's just a meter you have to refill frequently, food is harder to manage, because, duh, you're surrounded by all the water you could purify, but even still it's not enjoyable as opposed to other games' food and water mechanics. And god forbid you want to move faster to the pineapple you see on an island, because there are only two movement speeds in this game. Walking, and slow walking. There is no sprint, there is no stamina, it's just those two speeds. And in the water, it's just swimming, and swimming with flippers you can equip. The achievements in this game also just suck for achievement hunters. "Do X for X amount of times!", "Complete this story stage!", "Spend almost 90 in real life hours AFKing to make it to 365 days!". In my, as of writing this, 94 perfect games (let me gloat okay I can't do it often), I have never met a more boring and tedious game for achievement hunting (Yes I inflict the pain on myself, I just like getting dopamine seeing the number go up). There were other games that were tedious, but they at least had some merit to make them enjoyable, something to at least look forward to while playing. Raft was one of the most consistently boring and monotonous games with not much going for it. I even surrounded my raft with shoddy foundations, I was that bored of fighting the shark and replacing what he may or may not had broken. One thing I can at least say that is good is that you can play with your friends, but that's literally any multiplayer game ever. It's fun for the first few minutes, maybe even first few hours, before it becomes one of the many games touched but never completed for many. Hell, only 14.3% of people as of writing this have completed the story. It's not even that hard to begin with! TLDR: Save your money and find a different open world survival game, you will genuinely have a better time if you get a different game.

one of the most fun games to play with freinds. not super replayable however
