At first glance, the game seems simple. The story is completely different from the earlier Prince of Persia titles, but the gameplay is engaging and feels very similar to the original 2D Prince of Persia. As I progressed, however, the game started to feel unnecessarily long. The map is too large, many areas feel empty, and the hidden chests that require significant effort to reach often contain underwhelming rewards. The best abilities, such as the double jump and teleportation, are unlocked very late in the game. Because of this, it often feels like the game is artificially extending its playtime, forcing you to spend more time traveling between locations than actually progressing. The boss fights are very challenging, which is a major positive because they encourage you to think carefully about your strategy and defense throughout each encounter. Overall, it's not a bad game, but I don't think it's worth paying full price. The story could have been told comfortably in 12–15 hours instead of stretching it to around 30 hours.

Лучший Принц Персии и лучшая игра Юбисофт за долгие годы!
The aesthetic and gameplay feel like games from ten to fifteen years ago, and I mean that as a compliment. Simple, pastel visuals without unnecessary fuss, extremely fluid controls and combat, it reminds me of 2010-2014ish. It's the kind of game that feels immediately familiar yet totally fresh. The main strong point is the exploration: the ability to pin screenshots directly onto the map is one of the most genuinely brilliant quality-of-life features this genre has seen in years, and it should become standard going forward. The designers have clearly studied the best the genre has to offer, from Ori, to Hollow Knight, to Celeste, and coherently synthesized those influences into this project. The optional challenge levels are tough (yet rewarding) and test both technical platforming skill and problem solving, well beyond what the main path ever demands. The boss fights require attention and pattern recognition, usually defeating me once or twice before I could crack them, which I find to be a very good sweet spot difficulty-wise. The unlockable powers are centered on space and time manipulation (a nod to the PS2-era Sands trilogy, surely). They are more interesting in puzzle-platforming contexts than in combat, but they're original enough to stick in your memory. The area design is generally stellar, very deeply tied to Persian history and mythology, with some visually spectacular moments (the Sunken Sea in particular is one of the most impressive metroidvania areas I have ever seen). All of these quality gave me twenty hours of metroidvania fun, that flew by thanks to excellent pacing, but there are some wrinkles. To start with, character design is inconsistent: the Queen, Fariba, and several of the Immortals are very memorable and generally look great, but Vahram and protagonist Sargon sport ridiculously modern hairstyles that clash badly with the meticulous historical and mythological worldbuilding the environment designers clearly poured themselves into. The UI has a similar identity crisis, with a dynamic and colorful look that simply doesn't match the rest of the aesthetic. The story, while well grounded in ancient Persian mythology, mostly works as backdrop rather than something that pulls you in. And some technical roughness here and there reminds you this is still made by Ubisoft. About that. The production value here is solidly AA, maybe high-budget indie, which makes the absurdly long credits feel less like a celebration and more like a symptom of bloated corporate structure. Moreover, Ubisoft then proceeded to dismantle the development team after release, punighed for the crime of shipping an excellent game that sold merely very well. It's the kind of decision that makes you wonder how much better this game could have been, and how many better games we're not getting, if that talent weren't trapped inside a soulless money-sucking corporate machine that clearly doesn't appreciate the sheer art they can produce. Expedition 33 suggests some of it is finding its way out, but Lost Crown shows that there are still trapped in that corporate hellscape.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown may not be a typical Prince of Persia title, but it doesn’t really matter because it’s one of the best metroidvanias I’ve ever played. Combat is fast and fluid, with a dual-sword fighting style mixed with a bow, fast combos, parrying, and dodging. It is very satisfying. Platforming has tight controls, and it gradually expands as you unlock new abilities. It even features some puzzle-solving sections from time to time. The map is beautiful and a joy to explore, with plenty of interconnected areas offering decent variety. It’s also bigger than I initially thought, with plenty of optional collectibles. The story is decent, but it isn’t a highlight. The characters, however, are pretty good. The main bosses are also a highlight—they’re a lot of fun to fight and learn. It also features one of the best quality-of-life features in the genre, allowing you to take a screenshot that gets pinned to the map, making it easy to mark places you can’t quite reach yet. However, you’re limited in the number of markers you can have at once, which cripples this feature a bit. There are also plenty of accessibility features. The graphics have a great stylized art style, but they lack some detail. They reminded me of portable titles. I didn’t find the soundtrack particularly memorable either. Updates added permadeath and speedrun modes, boss rush and boss replay, and 22 curated challenges with a mix of platforming, puzzles, and combat that truly test your skills. A story DLC was also released that adds a new area, and it’s mostly separate from the main progression. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but that’s fine because it sticks to what works well. This is what Ubisoft is capable of when it gives its developers the freedom to create something original instead of sticking to its usual AAA formula, and I personally prefer titles like this. It kind of reminded me of Immortals Fenyx Rising in that sense. So overall, this is an easy recommendation, especially on sale. It’s simply one of the best metroidvanias available. You’ll have to deal with the Ubisoft Launcher, but it wasn’t that bad for me.
Not sure what's with all the negative reviews but this is one of the best games I've ever played. Epic adventure, story, music, and graphics. The challenges are a right mix of difficulty vs fun. You don't have to complete the hardest puzzles/levels in this game to beat it. 10/10 would recommend.
