Final Fantasy IV (3D Remake) is a solid modern version of a classic RPG, bringing updated visuals and added depth to an already important game in the series. The story is still one of the strongest parts, following Cecil’s journey with more emotion and character focus than earlier Final Fantasy games. The voice acting and cutscenes help make the story feel more impactful. The gameplay keeps the Active Time Battle system but adds more challenge. Boss fights and mechanics feel tougher, which can make the game more engaging but also a bit frustrating at times. The 3D visuals and presentation are a nice upgrade, making the world and characters feel more alive compared to the original version. Overall, Final Fantasy IV (3D Remake) is a good way to experience the game with added challenge and improved presentation, even if it can be a bit harder than expected. Gameplay: 7.5/10 Good | Overall: 8/10 Very Good
Game is awesome, but the 15fps lock on the battles makes everything feels too slow, specially when the rest of the game is an acceptable 30fps. Going to play the pixel remaster instead.
This is a really bad port. The graphics and sounds are not improved from the original and there are severe framerate stutters that can last for several seconds which seem to occur for no reason.
FFIV has one of the most enduring stories in the entire franchise. In my personal opinion, it ranks up there with VI, VII, IX and X, and as unforgettable and masterfully told. This 3D port of the DS remake is not perfect. I think some of the elements brought over from its phone releases don't look good here, but it's also understandable why the corresponding DS components couldn't translate either. I think with Fan Mods, this title could eventually shine like FFIX does with the Memoria and Moguri mods. I hope someday it gets to.
In my personal opinion this remains the definitive version of FFIV. Gameplay changes and additions as well as voice-acted cutscenes make this a fresh experience, while still remaining mostly faithful to the original game's story and gameplay.
It's a fun remake to play though and I like the view angle for navigation, although the 3D graphics is somewhat dated by today's standards.
My favorite version of FF4
I've played 4 versions of this game (PS1 / DS / GBA / PR) and I like this one best with the GBA a close second. Normally I prefer the pixel remaster versions but the PR version of this game is faceroll easy. This version has a good difficulty mix and I like the unique added content (e.g. the Augment System and Map Unlockables). The Augment System grants replayability to a game that originally had none. A guide is pretty much required though or you'll miss most of these Augments. The Map Unlockables are a fun bit of fluff that throws extra consumable items your way every once in awhile.
