Don't waste time it's just another point & click RPG where you click on things to progress further. Battles are turn based and you pick which weapon wanna use. Somewhat unfinished, can't tell exactly which character turn is now. Generally shallow gameplay with bad soundtrack.
The gameplay revolves around assembling a team of three heroes who embark on a mission to save the world from destruction. Each session is unique because: ✔ Characters are randomly generated, so you encounter different classes and stats every time. ✔ Roguelike permadeath system – if your team dies, the game ends, and you have to start over. ✔ Tactical turn-based combat – a well-balanced team and the right strategy are key to survival. ✔ Exploration and random events – during your journey, you’ll encounter various interactions, puzzles, and enemies.
Pixel Heroes was pretty fun for the first hour. But it became very repetitive. Every fight is basically the same. There's just not enough meat on the bones here. I'd love to see a sequel though, with improved graphics and UI, and more gameplay.
A mechanikák egyszerűek, ami könnyen befogadhatóvá teszi, viszont kevés mélységet kínál a veterán RPG-rajongók számára. Összességében egy szerethető, oldschool RPG, nem kínál mély mechanikákat vagy komoly történetet, de a stílusa és humora miatt szórakoztató választás lehet a műfaj rajongóinak.
A retro-style turn-based RPG with some roguelike elements. It has an old-school aesthetic, it's got nerdy humor, and there are different classes to choose from to spice up your team composition (plus gear and skills to choose from), also has a good variety of quests (even some choices along the way), but it suffers from some difficulty spikes, and RNG can really ruin a run. Also, it can get quite monotonous after a while, as it's not a very deep/complex game. The game's fun, but I'd say wait for a sale before buying.
Pixel Heroes: Byte & Magic is a charming roguelike dungeon crawler that won me over with its genuinely funny random events and absurd humor — there's nothing quite like encountering a Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas reference on the way to a goblin dungeon. The 30 unlockable hero classes and procedurally generated loot keep runs feeling fresh, and when you nail your party composition and gear setup just right, crushing a dungeon is immensely satisfying. That said, the game's biggest frustration is how artificial the difficulty can feel — you can spend 45 minutes carefully managing inventory and building a solid party only to get insta-wiped by a random encounter or get locked in an unwinnable stalemate with an immune enemy and no way to retreat. The inability to exit a dungeon mid-run is a genuine design flaw that turns what should be a fun roguelike into a punishing slog, especially when your healer dies on room 6 of 8. Still, if you go in with low expectations and a tolerance for RNG cruelty, there's a genuinely fun little game buried here — just grab it on sale.
I am a bit hesitant in writing this review. I didn't finish the game, which some would argue affects my judgement. Some of the problems I see in Pixel Heroes are also arguably part of the roguelike genre as a whole, meaning it's difficult to parse what is an issue and what is a feature. As a turn-based roguelike, Pixel Heroes is fine. It has some cute (and sometimes vaguely horrifying) surprises and references, the gameplay follows a pretty predictable but engaging rock-paper-scissors model and it obviously doesn't lack challenge. That's why I ended up siding with the blue and not the red on this one, because I did have some fun with the game. I don't want to dismiss that. However. What the game suffers from is twofold: 1) a lack of transparancy and 2) status effects that are too powerful in relation to the protection available against them. For example, a status effect like poison can do an irrelevant amount of damage in one encounter, while on another run it can take away chunks of your health bar with no real way to discern what the difference between the two is. This becomes worse with the fact that there are no consistent way to lessen the status effects, only block them. So, if you've gotten a quest that takes you to an area with a lethal status effect, but you have the wrong type of armor on and there is no relevant equipment in the shop (something I feel happens suspiciously often, but it might just be that my recollection is biased), well... you could end up eating it really quickly. Or, you don't, and the status effect ends up less serious than expected for no apparent reason. I might be missing something, so take the criticism with a grain of salt. What might be the worse issue is that I never felt particularly angry after getting screwed out of a run, which sounds like a strange complaint but does reflect a certain lack of investment I felt towards the game. Pixel Heroes is a pretty good time, but only for so long. While it was alright overall, I doubt I'll ever pick it up again.
Charming little game - i grew up with it. The music had engraved itself into mine, my brother's and my father's memories. I downloaded the android version one day, was listening to the music and my brother dead ass looked me in the eyes and said "Pixel heroes?". Absolute cinema. One of my childhood games, i try to get all of my friends at least one copy. It's honestly surprising it released in 2015 - i was expecting it to be older, like maybe 2012 or 2009. If i had to give some complaints - an X2 speed would be welcome, as the game is fairly slow, the rng is... pretty bad, when you have no armour that counters the next area you'll go to and the heroes are not created equal, making some achievements or runs difficult to get (The cleric is by far the best healer in the game, and once you beat the third difficulty, you get infinite rerolls for heroes so, why bother with anyone else? Especially the randomisers) - And the classic, no cross progression. That's a big oof that shattered pixel dungeon also suffers on. I recommend using SAM to at least align the achievements that you may have on android but not on here. That being said - the game is good. Maybe not a very good pc game, but if you ever need to play with one hand or just want to chill one day, this game just does that. I grew up with this, i get one copy for all my friends whether they want it or not and it will always have a place in my heart. Get it and you will not be disappointed.
Guys, this is amazing. Please i cannot wait for a game simmilar to this, you need to develop something new with all the improvements that the industry has released. The game for 1 dollar is just a must-buy, obviously for phones i'ts better suited but you can do a new game that combines both phone players and PC players
Ganz lustig und nicht zu einfach
