Ok, but too much micromanagement, which destroys all fun of game.
It was a great game in story and gameplay wise, until the ancient stuff spoiler. That was a big no-no for me. So it's just a good game with fresh but quite challenging gameplay. PROS: Gameplay is fun; the class system is wonderful - even some bizarre combinations at first sight can be pretty useful in battle; factions are diverse, but somewhat excessive. CONS: it still has some unpleasant bugs in early 2026; some plot twists; factions conflict feel artificial; Geoscape could be more complex.

I thought I had found a new Xcom to play. I thought I'd try not to compare it too much, but then saw how 95% of the game mechanics were exactly the same as Xcom, just with worse implementation and execution. Sure there were a few new things or improvements on the old xcom systems, though they were overshadowed heavily by the old systems mechanics just done in a worse way. Poor customisation and progression, lackluster class design, missions felt nearly the same but were far more boring and you can spend 60% of a mission running around whilst enemies fight npcs and you are just micromanaging movement instead of combat. There are so many things that could've been tremendously good if implemented correctly but somehow they ended up being pushed to final release without being sorted out. I couldn't take anymore of this after 18 hours. It just felt so boring and samey, barely any gear progression and too much micromanaging of resources. I'd give it a generous 5/10.
I guess the easy way to put it is: If you liked X-COM you'll love it. If you liked XCOM you won't.
I bounced off Phoenix Point at first due to confusion with the map strategy, and I am SO GLAD I returned to the game a few months later. I figured the strategy out, focused on the tactics I love so much, and it's been one of my all-time favorites ever since. I love this game so much that I've never even played any of the DLC; I'm afraid the changes would ruin the game I love. I only allow myself to play this game once a year because it completely dominates my free time once I start a campaign. For anyone who enjoys turn-based tactics, this game is a must.
This was very different from its predecessor. I enjoyed the mechanics and the DLC, and played it through mostly completion. Sometimes the missions were tedious and some of the enemies were designed to be really challenging to beat. I would recommend this to anyone. Unlike many other games I can mention, this one never crashed on me, which is an achievement. I played with TFTV and all DLC.
I gave it last chance after latest update but it is still very medicore game. Also there are still b^game breaking bugs present. The last one that broke the proverbial camles back was when in base defense mission last critter was not able to find path to me, instead runing in circles, and I was not able to go after it becuase my soldiers cannot leave base interior. Why was it designed this way? Why was it not spotted and fixed log time ago? That is the true mystery of this game. Do not waste your time, play X-com instead.
The game could have used far less content and far more polish. It feels jank in the worst ways, playing it feels tedious and there's no real feedback from the combat or anything else that makes it feel impactful or "fun". Research has a lot of filler which would be okay if the actual upgrades felt gratifying, but they don't as they're just sidegrades at best. If you like map games or management you might enjoy it.
I played this game long before most of the DLC came out, it was fun and beatable. Tried a playthrough recently with most of the DLC (only the well rated ones) turned on. Unplayable/beatable but not in an enjoyable way. I don't know why they decided to make one of the enemies so tanky that the only reliable strategy is to use a late game weapon type to bring it down. Even with the weapon type your likely to lose a unit or two. Severally disappointing as I used to love this game.
