Inspired by some of the most foundational Survival Horror franchises like Resident Evil; Vultures embraces a retro PS1 aesthetic with mechanics that lead to a tense, horror filled exploration. Isolated as a single agent in the dark halls of the city, every choice could lead to a successful mission or death.
A once bustling metropolis, Salento Valley now lies as a desolate battleground in the wake of a bio-hazard disaster. An enigmatic client has hired the Vultures, a small group of mercenaries specialized in infiltration, to enter the quarantine zone and uncover the origin of the infection, hoping to find a cure. Now, you will face increasingly challenging odds as you make your way through the cities ruins. Horrifying mutants and abominations lay in wait for fresh blood like you.

DO NOY buy this game at its current state. There is so many bugs that ruins gameplay I already reported 10 bugs 5 of which ruins the combat in a unfair way and 1 SOFTLOCKS YOU! This game is the indie game equivalent of Cyberpunk 2077's or Fallout New Vegas's release which both are good games but just a buggy mess at launch! This game would have been 10/10 for me, it's an AMAZING and FUN game I got at this moment 21.7 hours but -8 points of its unplayable mess so now 2/10. This game IS NOT supposed to be early access and be a released state yet it feel's like I was given an undercooked steak. Sure that steak had potential to be cooked same with the game but they weren't patient enough to delay the release of this game and cook it well during its early access. If you want the details as to what are the bugs here: - (Feast of the new Flesh Mission) Central yard's Zombies not visibly present but their groans can be heard, this indirectly led to a SOFTLOCK after escaping from the room with the second clock puzzle where once I killed all the new spawned zombies with also the lobster zombie, the game still thinks there are still zombies which technically are just not visibly present making me not be able to finish the mission. - Shotgun Ammo not appearing on ammo crates when Shotgun is already unlocked The Current patch V1.1.3 actually added more bugs and the previous v1.1.2 did not had these bugs: - Normal Zombies move their designated position in 2 or 3 spaces but then quickly walk back to the space they were from and only move 1 space or none at all instead - Sometimes a zombie moves **11 spaces** but then quickly walks back to their original space and only move 1 space (There's no exaggeration) - Normal zombies sometimes move 3 spaces **and then attack** **sometimes** when they're supposed not to after moving more than 2 spaces. Sometimes they even move **5 spaces** and attack you - Sometimes when a normal zombie is adjacent at the start of a new round, they can attack **twice**, they weren't able to do so in previous patch. - Zombie can move **during player turn** and attack me which is annoying - Sometimes, Ending player turn somehow make enemy turn last 4-5 rounds causing zombies to jump on my boi leo
Things I Like:
+++ Turn-Based Resident Evil: Picture my surprise as a fan of strategy games and Resident Evil-style games, seeing a small team from Colombia reveal 'Vultures - Scavengers of Death'. I like RE-style games, complete with their room-clearing, key-collecting, inventory management gameplay. And making it turn-based just sets it at a pace that's easy to relax and settle in to. ++ Entertaining Writing/Direction at times: "I'm something of a scientist myself." Some fun moments and plenty of easter eggs to all kinds of media, not just the genre itself. Though, the lack of voice-acting leaves a void to be filled in the game's personality. ++ Art Design: I like the overall aesthetic of the art design, including the cover art, UI and character designs. It reminds me of that other RE-like game, Signalis. + Costumes: Admittedly, there aren't as many costumes to unlock as I'd like, but the ones that are there are good and you don't have to jump through hoops to get them all. + Reasonably Priced
Things I Dislike:
-- Bugs and glitches: I've ran into a few here and there. Weapon UI disappearing until I open and close another menu. Characters T-Posing, tunnelling enemies getting stuck out of bounds and soft-locking the game, dead enemies being treated as alive and soft-locking the game and being unable to get 100% completion because areas are inaccessible or just bugged for some reason. That said, every time I've seen an issue posted on the Steam Forums, the moderator has responded quickly and reported it to the team to be fixed in the next update. So while I am happy with the response and I'm sure they'll fix them, the current state of the game that I'm playing and reviewing has a few bugs/glitches happening that need solving. I'll probably edit this section out after a few more updates. -- No Voice Acting: As I said earlier, the lack of voice-acting leaves a void to be filled in the game's personality in which grunts and murmurs just don't do the fun writing and the cast of distinct characters any justice. -- "Tactical Survival Horror": I do play a lot of games like this. I've completed both XCOM 2 and all the modern Resident Evil games on the hardest difficulties. But horror is just a flavour here, not a feeling. And even on Survival Mode, I found myself stacked with ammo and meds that it felt like I could goof around like it's story mode up until maybe the second-to-last mission where I had to be careful. I just hope the developers approach difficulty in a way that doesn't take away the fun or turn enemies into bullet-sponges. I think a couple more carefully placed weaker enemies and floor traps in some levels, maybe some increased damage values all-round would do perfectly. Also, the auto-save function is a clear exploit because it does so before you enter every room. So if you miss a shot or realise you could do it better a different way, you can just load the auto-save without consequence. - Not a very pretty game: And it's not because of the PS1-style graphics, I actually like how some of the models look, especially the main characters. I just think a lot of the rooms have bland designs which make the game boring to look at most of the time and some textures are genuinely an eye-sore. - Weak OST: While it's not necessarily a bad OST, most tracks are serviceable and do the job, it is an OST that reinvents the wheel in a genre with a lot of soundalikes. Simply not enough to stand out from similar games and not many tracks that energise you while playing or make you want to hear them outside of the game.
I recommend this overall, but it can be pretty buggy which can be frustrating. An example of this, is an enemy that is supposed to drop a keycard for me in the final mission didn't drop a keycard. I'd now have to run the mission all over from the start to make sure that enemy drops the keycard. I also was almost entirely locked out of progressing at one point because of a camera glitch until I set myself to free camera and panned through complete blackness until I saw my characters again. Besides that, there is fun to be had with tactical survival combat. Granted, unless you play on the higher difficulty they just added, it's unlikely you'll be at too much risk at any point. Supplies are plentiful and so are powerful character actions. There are lots of weapons and gadgets to make nearly all of your encounters really fun. Shock-chain stunning, push stunning, inflicting bleed, sneaking and assassinating, and unfortunately at the very end for Amber, a lifesteal bleed setup. I can acknowledge I liked what I got here mostly, but this is really a 6.5 ~ 7 / 10 type experience. These titles usually always get bonus points for me just because I like the theme and the graphics.
I love the idea but there are some VERY prominent bugs.
The premise is novel but it turns into a slog in the back-half of the game, and coincidentally this is where I started encountering bugs like teleporting zombies or the game hanging during a post-boss cutscene. Capping all that frustration off with an unsatisfying nothing of an ending pushed this into the negative for me.
Very fun game. It required a lot of strategy to use my resources wisely and avoid getting hit by the zombies. The only real problem is that the game is still pretty buggy. I had a couple of situations where I got softlocked and had to reload a save to fix the issue. I recommend the game, but maybe wait for a few more patches to fix the bugs.
Game is fun but has mission breaking glitches. I interact with a door and enter a void causing a reload. The game outright crashes at times as well.
Love the game, great feel and aesthetic. 10 Quacks of of 10
