Per Aspera is a colony management simulation game that has a story containing multiple possible endings, allowing for replay ability. It took me about 20 hours to complete the game's story mode and understand each mechanism. I absolutely loved the playthrough. I felt like the Blue Mars DLC should have been included in the base game, since it includes mechanisms that just make sense, and I also feel as if the game itself is in need of further performance optimizations. Outside of those two cons, I think this is a great game that eases you into each stage, and eventually requires precise resource management and allocation of structures. Don't get overwhelmed by the idea of that though. The game does a great job at making the whole experience fun.
I have came to this game 3 times, Itching for some space building game. Thinking to myself it was not THAT bad last time right ? Getting bored and not finishing either of my saves with no will to continue. I love the visuals, the concept, the gameplay. But it is ... too sluggish ? 16x speed up still not enough sometimes.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

A fine enough game, though it has the primary problem that it's core gameplay is just not that fun. So the game has a ton of stuff in it, but it is all built on this shaky foundation of plonk some simple structures down, plonk a worker down, and wait 5 minutes for it to slowly build out the new addition to your base. Even in the late late game, this basic formula does not change. You are still using the same factories and mines, they are still transporting resources the same way, building new additions is still as slow as it is at the start of the game. Compare this to something like Factorio or Mindustry, where how you interact with the world changes dramatically as you scale up and get more technology and resources. Charitably, you could say that Per Aspera is a meditative game of creating these bonsai like growths across the surface of Mars. Less charitably, you could point out that there is very little pushback at any point during this game, and you can solve most problems just by setting the game on 16x speed and making a sandwich while you build up whatever resource is needed for the next checkpoint. I really feel like the devs should have spent another 3-6 months on the prototyping phase before building a full game on these very shaky foundations. Oh and let me say some nice things. I liked that dropping off resources makes a little water plinking sound, so that a busy section of your base ends up sounding like a stream of water. I liked the interface for repeating space missions, which makes it very clear (in a way that most games do not) whether the mission is actually repeating or has been switched to one-off mode.
Loved the game. The only 2 issue's I have are the pacing of the story and the lack of better logistics options. Once you reach mid game eveything gets clogged even with hyperloops and max level roads. Other than that: great game. I would love another game like this set somewhere else with a different story.
I'm still trying to decide what I think. I loved Surviving Mars, and have like 150 hours or so in that. I really want to like this game more, and I think I do like it? It's definitely worth the price when it's on sale. I just think there are things they could have done to make it much better. Pro: it does look nice. Nothing crazy, like it's not the pretties thing I've ever seen, but it definitely looks good. Pro: a lot of the mechanics feel interesting and fleshed out. Like, your ice deposits you rely on eventually disappear as you terraform, so you need to switch your entire ice industry halfway through. Con: This especially comes as I compare this to other strategy games I like... but nothing feels that visually distinct. It's super hard to tell resources apart, since there's like 3 that look super similar. Buildings also are crazy hard to tell apart. This gets worse because buildings only tell you what resources they take/produce as the icons, with no mouse-over tooltips to immediately see "oh this takes aluminum, not ice or iron or whatever." Con: There are just some quality of life features I feel like I miss. This is, at the end of the day, a logistics game. It would be really nice to have more map filters, especially ones that show where resources are being produced or required. Con: Control of military units is like, super different and I hate it. Like every RTS ever has you selecting units with left mouse, and giving them orders with right mouse. Because it's a good way to do it, like the only good way to do it. Somehow, the developers came up with... selecting with left mouse, and then giving orders with left mouse. But then, like it's hard to tell you're in the "give orders" mode or "select units mode." The only way to get out of giving orders mode is to right click, for some horrific reason. Con: Like in Surviving Mars, you have like special projects? Actually, you have probably more special projects that SM. But, the issue is that a lot of missions are like when you turn "auto" on your rockets in that game, where it'll just keep repeating until you're done? And you can't cancel a mission until a rocket is either back on earth, or back on mars. So if you want to cancel a recurring mission, you have to wait until it's done with travel, and hope you don't forget. This could have been solved by a simple "cancel when finished" button. TL;DR: good game, would have been so much better with some QoL features, more distinct graphics, and changes to controls.
I have enjoyed this game tremendously, especially when I made a decision not to google any strategies or gaming tips for playing. Mars is a harsh environment and it has been super fun to ♥♥♥♥ up and find out.
Per Aspera isn't great in my opinion but certainly not bad. Its good enough that I finished the main campaign (about 20hrs). Other users said it well; this game is a visual novel that acts like a colony builder. Most of the time playing this game (for me) was on max speed watching Netflix on the side waiting for certain events to happen from story-related moments to visual updates to Mars as you terraform. My biggest gripe with the game is late game builder management. Others have said it better than I can so I won't beat a dead horse here but in the late game its much easier to brute force 10x the amount of workers and other buildings you needs, carpeting them across you map and just 16x the game speed to wait things out. The late game was terribly boring.
What to say about this game ... well its a cool idea, a great concept but the execution left alot to be desired. as for the story it didn't make any sense at all. As if NASA wouldn't be aware of a previous launch and other attempts to colonize the planet using AI Drones. Its literally that simple utterly ridiculous. As for the game play its self. The unit count is abysmally low especially when your just starting out. The placement of alot of nodes, for resources and research are placed in spots that are either Extremely Hard to get to because of Terrain Elevation or end up getting destroyed because of rising water levels that eventually will cover a good portion of the planet making 90-95% of the Research nodes unusable! The UI has issues as well, Every single time there's a Space Port Launch, a new zone unlocks or any number of things the UI forces a perspective change! this is literally one of the worst game designs ever. Instead of having a small pop up in the lower right hand corner with a notification/toast it just takes your camera moves it and restricts your controls while it forces you to look at it! on top of changing your game speed!?!?! Now I have played an UNGODLY amount of other RTS Games and this is the first time I have ever seen a game do this, its a horrible design flaw and should be changed. Some other things I would change would be Hyper Loops forced to have to above ground connection to be built on the other side and not transmitting power. Having a hyper loop that can tunnel to the other end and the build up from under ground would be a serious improvement making outpost building far easier and less taxing on the already horrible unit cap. The AI is also pretty wonky, If I build an outpost or a mine, with a worker bot next to it, a Storage and a HyperLoop the bot will prioritize taking the resources back instead of dropping them into the storage. Dropping them into the Storage would be far faster as the main base has dozens of other worker drones that can come and get the resources from storage
