PARRYMAN, developed and published by KIWICORN, is an indie action-platformer that builds its entire identity around one idea: the art of the perfect parry. In an era where many games attempt to overwhelm players with extensive upgrade trees, countless weapons, and layered progression systems, PARRYMAN takes the opposite approach. It strips combat down to its essentials and challenges players to survive using timing, awareness, and persistence. The result is a focused experience that immediately distinguishes itself from many of its contemporaries on Steam. The game's premise is refreshingly uncomplicated. Players step into a world where nearly every obstacle, enemy, and encounter can be overcome through a well-timed counter. Rather than rewarding aggressive button-mashing, PARRYMAN teaches patience and observation. Each opponent possesses recognizable attack patterns that must be studied and exploited, turning every battle into a small test of reflexes and discipline. The game's mechanics also extend beyond combat, incorporating recoil-based movement and environmental interactions that make the simple act of parrying feel surprisingly versatile. By committing so strongly to its central mechanic, the game establishes a unique rhythm that remains engaging for much of the adventure. Difficulty is undoubtedly one of PARRYMAN's defining characteristics. It is not a game interested in holding the player's hand, and repeated failure is expected. Certain encounters may require numerous attempts before their timing becomes second nature, creating a satisfying sense of progression that comes not from leveling up a character, but from improving as a player. Those who enjoy challenging titles that emphasize mastery will likely appreciate this philosophy. However, the same uncompromising approach can alienate players seeking a more relaxed or varied experience. Since the gameplay loop revolves almost entirely around parrying, its appeal depends heavily on how much enjoyment one derives from refining a single skill over time. Artistically, PARRYMAN embraces a vibrant and approachable visual style. Its hand-crafted presentation gives the game a playful personality that contrasts with its demanding gameplay. Character designs are expressive, and animations communicate enemy intentions clearly, an essential element for a title that relies so heavily on precise reactions. While the environments are relatively modest in scope and detail, they are designed with readability in mind, ensuring players can focus on incoming threats rather than visual clutter. The accompanying soundtrack complements the action effectively, maintaining momentum without becoming distracting. What makes PARRYMAN memorable is the confidence behind its design. KIWICORN never loses sight of the experience it wants to deliver. There are no unnecessary detours or mechanics added simply to satisfy trends. Instead, the game remains committed to being a skill-driven action-platformer from beginning to end. That dedication gives it a strong sense of identity, even if it comes at the cost of broader accessibility. Players expecting extensive exploration or a constantly evolving combat system may find themselves wanting more variety, but those willing to embrace its singular vision will discover a rewarding challenge beneath its simple exterior. Ultimately, PARRYMAN succeeds by understanding its strengths and refusing to compromise them. It offers a compact yet demanding adventure that celebrates mechanical mastery above all else. While its narrow focus prevents it from appealing to everyone, it stands as an admirable example of indie developers trusting a strong concept and executing it with conviction. For players who enjoy overcoming difficult obstacles through practice and precision, PARRYMAN delivers an experience that is both frustrating and deeply satisfying in equal measure. Rating: 6/10
