Oozi: Earth Adventure

Personally Im having a hard time recommending this game yes or no, so I'll start by summing up the positives and negatives. Positives The game has nice graphics, nice music and they've really trying to set a nice ambience with their level design. There's a lot of levels in the game, normal story, challenge mode and arcade mode, all be it a lot of them seem very similar. There's three different difficulty settings (if I recall correctly). For children this gives you some nice options. Personally I wouldn't bother with the different difficulty settings and just start on Hardcore because it's not unforgiving, it just gives you less hits to take (but you have checkpoints anyway). Negatives: There's quite a few flaws that make this game a rather mediocre to even bad experience. Time-wasting mechanics: The cycles.... Spike-cycles, you have to hide in the background in this corridor enemy-cycles, basic enemy cycles. Besides this there's also the classic 'things that shoot from the ceiling-cycles' that you have to wait for. It doesn't really add anything to the gameplay, it just makes things tedious and disrupts your flow in the game. There's just nothing special about the game, it's about as generic as can be. Slippery floors at places where floors aren't supposed to be slippery. Hitboxes that just aren't right, on enemies as well as the edges of platforms (sometimes you fall through them, sometimes you can 'walljump' off them). The game/platforming is really repetitive. There's been a couple of times that the camera started to glitch out for a few frames in a row (mostly on auto-scroll level challenges).

This game is perfect for new gamers as an introduction to platformers. It's got nice colorful graphics, music and ok sound effects. The controls are tight and simple to pick up. New gameplay mechanics and enemies come along one at a time. It's not going to compete with Mario but it's fine and well polished for what it is. My only real complaint is it's one of those games that interrupt the gameplay with signs that explain each and every little thing instead of using level design to allow new players to figure stuff out. I suppose one could ignore the signs but then they get FOMO. All in all, this would be great for parents that want to get their kids into gaming. As a salty old veteran gamer, I'm not the target audience.

While the level design is solid, it lacks the inventive "hook" found in top-tier indie platformers, occasionally making the experience feel more like a tribute than a standalone classic. Ultimately, 'Oozi: Earth Adventure' is a well-polished and heartwarming title that succeeds as a "comfort game," though it may feel a bit too conventional for players looking for the next evolution of the genre.

I originally played Oozi on XBLIG back around 2011 or so, then replayed it on PC in 2021. It's a platformer. Just that. It's not a metroidvania; it's not precision platformer; it's not a puzzle-platformer; it's not a 'challenging' ordeal in putting yourself through needless suffering. It's just a simple platformer that you play and have a nice time with. Oozi feels a lot like a forgotten mascot platformer from the 90s. One of those where companies desperately tried to get their own equivalent of Mario or Sonic off the ground. Is it a classic? No. Is it one you should go out of your way to experience? No. But it's a decently fun little game which makes a refreshing change from the stuff that tends to be more popular these days.

NEUTRAL REVIEW. Not great, not bad, it's cheap, and short. Give it a try. Grab it when it's on sale.

Nowdays we would say "THAT AI" but back then this was a not so bad game. Its not perfect but not bad either, ill give it a thumbs up cause its playable even for kids.
