I bought this game because: - the art looked good - The characters looked inspired and interesting - it looked skill based but also accessible - it felt like the right amount of "out of my comfort zone" and promising for a new experience After finishing it just now, I found out the characters all come from Vtubers' characters, seemingly from a group of them called holomems, and they're part of something called hololive. This sentence made me sound like I'm a thousand years old but that goes to show how ignorant I was of the whole universe that this game was inspired by. I am really glad I didn't know about any of that before buying the game, because I might've assumed I wouldn't be able to appreciate it as it is not my scene at all, and I would've missed this gem. This game is amazing. The nostalgia of playing a 2D game in pixel art is amazing, the characters look fun, unique, and despite knowing nothing of them or where they came from, this game made me want to know all about them. I felt annoyed by the soundtrack for the first 10 minutes then somehow it became stuck in my head for days and now I'm obsessed with it. The old school game mechanics like good ending / bad ending, secrets you can find by exploring the limits of the level design, metroidvania features which allow you to trace your steps back to see what you can do with your unlocks, unlockable characters which allow you to replay the same levels with the twist that the characters provide which reveals the genius composition that the level designers created so that it could fit all those characters with their own strengths and limits. On that last point, the balancing in this game is something precious. It is to me amazing that the levels and the bosses were designed in such a way that they allow for multiple characters to fight them without ever feeling like anything is out of balance. It further reinforces the feeling that each character in this game (playable or not) is unique, as their strengths and weaknesses are more and more revealed and clear as you replay the game with each different playable character. Overall, I think this game is a hidden gem, but also an acquired taste. There are a few things which might throw you off at the start and the game isn't perfect by all means in some aspects, but the more you play it and the more you feel the passion behind it and the inspired touch of each person who worked on it . I couldn't recommend this game more. It was loads of fun. If you're like me and this game looks like something that's out of your comfort zone, this will be a nice discovery, give it a shot and you won't regret it.
Cool action game, the extra scenarios bundled in past the first campaign are nice and keep the game feeling fresh. Good for anyone that likes classic Mega Man-style games.
I lost rock paper scissors and died
Mega Man if it was EPIC and had cute girls.
This game portrays itself as fun and simple 2D platformer that holds more more content than you think. The gameplay is straightforward with some similarities to the Mega Man series. It doesn't get too flashy with anything and instead goes for a more classic feeling of platformer adventures. Its not much on paper but it gets the job done thanks to its charm and style. The graphics and pixel art are crisp and solid while the music goes for strong 8-bit remixes of Hololive songs that sound like the kind you hear on the Game Boy Advance or something similar. The additional campaigns, sound test, and arcade mode are neat bonuses to enjoy too. There is the minor issue that this game doesn't have a conventional save; that being no auto save and having to manually save from the pause menu onto a new safe file or otherwise you lose all your progress, but thats otherwise a minor setback (either that or to call out zoomers for taking autosave for granted). In the end, its a charming game with charming simplicities.
Really like the levels and the music is good
