Solid entry into the bullet hell genre. The gameplay and evolutions are nice but some weapons need some balancing. My two gripes so far: the odd number of weapons+passives you can get to make sure one weapon doesn't get evolved or one passive isn't really necessary and the last minute is not fun the way it is currently designed. I get trying to add some suspense at the end but 99% of the runs I lose are in that last minute. Which ends up making the entire time played much, much less enjoyable and severely limits my interest in another run. I rarely play as many games in a row with this game as I do with others in the genre because of these two issues.
Gets a bit achievement-grindy after you beat the base content which takes <4 hours, so if you're into that, sure. My biggest gripe is the music is so lacking. It really needs some energy/rhythms to make the engagement higher. A couple of cool original mechanics between items and boss fight (the chess idea was really neat)
Fun, snappy combat and and an artstyle that lends itself well to the hectic gameplay!
This game is awesome man! I love it! Fun to just pick up and play a 20 minute round. Family friendly, no BAD stuff. The more I play it the more I discover how much really went into this game. Thanks for the cool game :)
Thoroughly enjoying this one, definitely worth a purchase. If you're considering this game I'm confident Vampire Survivors is a good frame of reference. The people who made this one have clearly spent a lot of time considering what they enjoyed most about Vampire Survivors and figuring out how they could add their own spin on the formula. The result is a product that is stable, no stuttering, no screen tearing, no technical missteps of any kind that I noticed in 11 hours so that's significant in itself. With regard to how their ideas are implemented, and again with Vampire Survivors in mind for shared reference, the "banish" aspect is built in by default since you're choosing one of three classes to play each round. This limits your weapon selection to the class you're playing while the items remain the same, just their effect on the weapons shifts to create new evolutions. There are a lot of "quests" to complete and you'll want to do at least most of them since it's an easy way to get money that you can use to customize the weapons and their evolutions to better suit your taste and play style, but there are also some useful features unlocked through quest completion and some cosmetics. I've got about a dozen (or more) games in the genre created by Vampire Survivors and this is easily one of the most fun and best realized. Fully endorsed, will be buying any DLC they release whether it's actual content or just cosmetics. If you can catch this on sale, great, but it's easily worth a full price purchase.
A solid little game if you're craving more survivor style gameplay. The interface for weapon upgrading is a bit confusing as it didn't click right away for me that you're choosing what upgrade you get at each level instead of enhancements to the weapon itself. The graphics are pretty decent - great colors and the sprite work gets the job done. Not a big fan of just scaling up the size of certain sprites - different pixel sizes on the screen feels a bit weird. Overall I had fun with the game for a few hours - great palette cleanser between bigger titles.
Plays a lot like Vampire Survivors and uses the same weapon evolution system where you combine the correct stat item + weapon to evolve it. Abilities all feel different enough and distinct too. Also reminds me of Halls of Torment just a little bit because it lets you choose different upgrade paths for the weapons. HoT does this better though because that game lets you make these choices during a run, allowing for more dynamic, reactive and tactical decisions, whereas in Orc you choose the upgrade paths from the main menu screen before a run. There are a few nice touches, like the powerup that turns you into a giant treasure chest that can Pacman eat everything on the screen (bosses included!). The chess peice boss in the Palace is well done as well. The games music tracks are catchy and decent too. I don't think this is a game that I'll keep playing to 100%. I enjoy it. ..possibly more than Vampire Survivors actually, though that's not saying much given that VS is a game I barely recommend despite it being a critical step for the genre. For such an obscure title, this is actually very good, far better than expected: it gets the thumbs up from me. ===================== My Survivor Rogue-lite Tier List (PC) ===================== -Not an objective list, purely how much I enjoyed the games- Loved it: Halls of Torment | Gunlocked* | Great: Army of Ruin | Gunbot Diplomacy | Heretic’s Fork* | Slime 3K: Rise against Despot | Good: Rogue: Genesia | Wings of Seduction*@ | Okay Vampire Survivors | Brotato# | Orc Survivor | Glory & Miserable Survivors DX*@ | 20 Minutes till Dawn | Talented | Nomad Survival | Void Scrappers* | Elewar: Fused Survivors | Swarm Grinder | Striving for Light: Survival# | ”meh”: Keeper’s Toll | Twilight Survivors | Pesticide Not Required | Spirit Hunters: Infinite Horde | Nordic Ashes | Soulstone Survivors | Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor | Kitty’s Last Adventure | Greedland | Horde Hunters | Very “meh”: Beat Invaders | Genome Guardian | God of Weapons | Time Wasters* | Boneraiser Minions | Archons | Goobies | X Invader | Cast Out Colony | Starship Scramble | Bounty of One | Holocure - Save the fans! | Cozy Space Survivors | Disfigure | SurvivalScape | Bio Prototype | Bloodshed* | Vampire Hunters* | The Nightwatch# | Choo Choo Survivors | Choo Choo Survivors 2 | Voids Vigil | Boons & Burdens# | Solar Survivors* | Picayune Dreams | Artifact Seeker: Resurrection | Karate Survivor | Tri Survive | Holy Shot | Awful or Overly basic: Hack & Shoot Heroes | Level Tank | Agent Pigeon 7 | ========================== * = A misfit or fusion of genres. # = More of a rogue-like than rogue-lite. @ = Pornographic/Hentai/Lewd.
Perfectly reasonable survivors-like with incredibly grindy late-game achievements that really overstayed their welcome (25 runs per zone plus an awful lot of walking). Still fun for the most part. First 10 hours were really good.
Love the game! Had a blast playing. Finally reached the end for me, can't recommend it enough! PS. I dislike the mage only gripe lol 7.2/10 Video Review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szW4CchimXs Playthrough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7BM3LFPZ2I
