About
Laby’s Village is a fantasy-comedy 2D pixel action roguelike featuring unique dungeon-driven mechanics.
You play as Laby, an officer of the Demon King’s army.
In the chaotic era following the Demon King’s fall, you set out from a small village that safeguards the “Heart of the Demon King,” determined to conquer the ambitious warlords who refuse to submit.
The game combines fast-paced combat, weapon progression, and relic-based builds.
Purchase and upgrade a wide variety of weapons and Demon King relics to craft your own combat style.
Each weapon has its own attack rhythm, projectile effects, and humorous personality, while relic enhancements can trigger unexpected and wildly satisfying chain reactions.

It all starts in the hub, a small village where you’ll find several characters you can talk to for upgrades. One of the first things I noticed was the lack of visual consistency. Some characters are presented in high resolution, while others, including your own, look noticeably pixelated. The village also has no map, so you’re left to memorize where everyone is. Instead of a traditional upgrade menu, each character specializes in improving a specific set of stats. The deer spirit, for example, boosts your movement speed and dodge chance, while the mouse mage focuses on mana and magical damage. Upgrades cost coins earned from completing runs, and each one can initially be purchased three times. After that, the same upgrade becomes available again, but now it also requires gems, which are much harder to obtain. Every new tier unlocks yet another level of the same upgrade, with increasingly steep costs in both coins and gems. The dragon is where you begin your runs across three different stages, but first you need to choose a character. There are four in total, each with unique perks and, once again, noticeably inconsistent art styles that make them look as if they belong to different games. After that, you select a weapon from a surprisingly large arsenal featuring melee and ranged options, as well as magical and futuristic weapons. Each comes with its own stats for damage, attack speed, and range. Some are available from the start, while others must be purchased from the village merchant or forged by the blacksmith. Runs are wave based, meaning you simply need to survive for a set amount of time while your weapons aim and fire automatically. Every enemy defeated grants experience, and each level up permanently increases your maximum health by one point for that run. Enemies also drop coins that must be collected before the wave ends. Any coins left behind are devoured by a demon, although you still recover a small portion of them depending on how many were lost. Before each new wave begins, a merchant appears and offers four random weapons or items in exchange for the coins you collected. You can buy them immediately or lock them in place until the next shop if you can't afford them yet. You can carry up to six weapons at a time, but combining two identical weapons of the same level creates a stronger version. Items, on the other hand, have no inventory limit and provide a wide range of stat bonuses that are displayed on the right side of the screen. Some also come with negative effects, but the trade-off is often worth it. Eventually, no matter how well your build comes together, you'll be defeated and sent back to the village. That's when another issue becomes apparent. Coin rewards are quite low, meaning you'll need to complete a lot of runs before you can afford meaningful upgrades or notice any real sense of progression. Unfortunately, it never develops that addictive "just one more run" feeling, and for me, the experience started losing its appeal after only a handful of attempts. In the end, this is another fairly generic survivors-style game trying to carve out a small place in an already crowded genre. It asks too much for what it actually delivers. At a lower price, it might have been easier to recommend, but a $10 price tag is excessive for such an unoriginal experience, especially one that so clearly relies on AI-generated assets.
Fun, simple roguelite, good pick if you like the genre. Bug to note: the complete the dungeons achievement doesn't unlock properly. I bought this game aiming for 100% completion, which takes about 20 hours total. But you wont get it until they fixed those 3 achievements.
