Nemesis of the Roman Empire

I would say... Mixed bag. This is an RTS game. The Graphics are vintage decent. The music is good. The story is adequate and is based on historical events. No bugs or crashes. Now, this is not an easy game to play. The tutorial covers very little so the learning curve is very steep. And this game is complicated. There are many synergies, and if you don't play by the note, you will not recover. So this is not a game for everybody. If you have already played the classic awesome games of the genre, like Starcraft or Age of Empires, you might find this one tiresome to play, with the old mechanics and subpar controls, even so for the time it was released. This is a niche game, for the nostalgic or hardcore strategist with lots of time available or the right level of obsession or masochism. For the right crowd, it will be very entertaining. I just don't think the masses will be as enthusiastic. I'll leave these fields of war and look for a conflict I can enjoy. Here's a red flag for the more casual, less inclined to sentimental playing sessions.

Back in 2001 I first found the predecessor to this game, Celtic Kings: Rage of War, and really enjoyed it. It was a RTS that incorporated some element of RPG and had a unique supply line aspect that I hadn't seen in traditional RTS games. Plus, the theme of Ancient Rome and the Gallic Wars was very interesting. It was a very fun game... but then I discovered its sequel. Nemesis has the basic functionality of the first game, but incorporates new factions and focuses on the Punic Wars and the rise of Rome and the fall of Carthage. Finding this game on Steam was very exciting. And unlike some other old games you can find on Steam, this one actually works pretty well. I haven't had too many problems like the game crashing or anything. However, it does help if you set your screen resolution to 1024x768 when you play. It might change it automatically, but sometimes it struggles a bit until you make that change in your settings.
