Mystery Expedition: Prisoners of Ice

Your grandfather wanted to find a treasure that he heard when he was stranded in the North Pole. He never returned from his second expedition. But you, you decide to find what happened. And guess what? You're stranded too... and with a traitor in the crew... The plot is simple though I found the story short. The hours I've spent reflect the guide I've made about objects. But still, if the plot was beginning well, you have some holes: what happened to the captain? How come the mechanic was taken by the evil spirit if he was a prisonner? The puzzles, if for some, are easy, for others, are quite a challenge. I had to skip some because it was a pain in the ass to try to catch the fish or you need to know the moon phases or you don't have real indication about how to solve that. The HO scenes were normal, though some items are difficult to spot, as they can be confused as part of another (got the case with a German grenade, where the handle was the same as a tool). The official achievements can be done quickly. Nothing is rewarding you in the end for defeating evil, fishing for the Inuit, etc... But than you have hidden ones: 1 per relic or beyond object (object disappearing and reappearin)... Not every scene has them and sometimes, a beyond object and a relic can be in the same one. The graphics are alright, but the characters are filmed actors. I would say that it's maybe weird to see them like that in a drawn scene. While it's maybe a nice intention, I didn't find that so... well-executed. The actors are correct, it's not that but how it was integrated.... during these scenes, I had pixels around.... The little nice add is to find coins to buy the pingoo a pool, a tv, a basket-ball. It's making me smile and while it's not very developed, it's still a little feature that is appreciated. The soundtrack is alright too. So, while I'm feeling perhaps mixed for this game, I'll still recommend to grab it with a nice discount. It's enjoyable, with "easy" achievements for those who loves 100%.

Gameplay There are three different difficulty game modes to choose from: Easy; Expert and Adventure. The notebook keeps track of progression in the game. Such as story events and clues. There is an interactive map in the game. It allows the player to fast travel between each location quickly without having the need to constantly backtrack. It also indicates that there are a variety of tasks that can be completed at various locations within the game. The interactive map is automatically given at the start of the game. There is a padlock feature that is available to lock the inventory panel in place to make it stationary. The hidden object scenes consist of the following: Traditional word list. Some of these hidden object scenes may require little or no interaction. The puzzles are fairy easy to solve without having the need to skip any of them. There is a pet penguin in the game. The coins are used to buy items for the penguin and most of the items are not fairly cheap. The coins are scattered throughout the game for the player to find. There is a collectible in the game: Relics. There are ten of them and they are scattered throughout the game for the player to find as well. There are morphing objects (beyond objects.) They are scattered throughout the game for the player to find as well. There are twenty-eight different achievements that can be unlocked from playing the game. Each of these achievements does come with some requirements that need to be completed before they can be unlocked. Miscellaneous Final thoughts: I have found the game enjoyable to a certain extent. The replay value for the game is low. I would recommend this game, but not at the game's full price value.

I enjoyed this game, only because it was a different kind of HOG to the usual. There really isn't much story at all, only a brief introduction about your grandfather going missing and you deciding to find him. The story doesn't really develop like a normal HOG would and instead you are presented with numerous puzzles and hidden objects to find. There seemed to be a lot more than usual and they came thick and fast. There were more puzzles than a usual HOG which was welcoming and I was quite happy just finding the objects and solving the puzzles. I would definitely pick this up in a sale but for 4.5 hours of "storyline" I couldn't really recommend it at full price.

For this great game you don the hat of explorer in an “Indiana Jones”-esque tale of discovery. I thoroughly enjoyed the progress of the story and the interactive character’s who play their part in your progress. I liked the option of being able to alter the hidden object scenes into jigsaw puzzles to solve instead. I did find it frustrating at one point when I had to pause play and return at a later date and was unsure of the next task. I insisted on using the hint option which kept instructing me to a situation that I did not possess the tools to solve at that point. Thankfully I attended all previous scenes and found the tool and task to be completed. I was also a little disappointed in needing to specifically orientate a tool within a scene before it was recognized as the appropriate activity. I had presented the tool multiple times within the scene and had it be rejected. I was blown away by the injected realism of the crew interactive scenes. By making those scenes realistic it made the game and the story line more believable and there the gamer became more invested in the outcome. I also loved the way history and culture was injected into the story. The history, beliefs and traditions of the Inuit people give the story line and game a link between the tangible history of an ancient culture and the mystery surrounding it. I recommend Mystery Expedition: Prisoners of Ice to fans of hidden object fans. Historien og omgivelserne starter godt og lægger ud med en masse lovende ting, desværre føles det som man kommer længere frem, at man har prøvet at lægge en masse ting på. HO scenerne har en sværhedsgrad til den svære side og det er godt. Puzzles er varierende af sværhedsgrad, men overvejende til den lettere side. De burde droppe levende skuespillere i mellemsekvenser, da det virker klodset.

[i][b]Mystery Expedition: Prisoners of Ice[/b][/i] is a fair Hidden Object Game. The storyline and the gameplay are ok. As far as H.O. Scenes are concerned, their quality is very fluctuating. Some of them look like a bunch of stuffs thrown out there, while others were rather good or high quality and very enjoyable HOS. The puzzles/mini-games difficulty level ranks from easy to average. The least one can say is that there is an effort to implement innovative puzzles in [i][b]Mystery Expedition: Prisoners of Ice[/b][/i]. Graphics are good. I usually don't like the use of videos in-game and still don't, but these ones.. well, they truly made me laugh, like in front of some cheap production movie ;D I do recommend this game. It's quite short though and can be completed in less than 2 hours and a half. (I spent almost 7 hours on the game because I had to go through 3 runs to finally manage to gather all "Beyond objects" (achievement related), after several long minutes of screening). If you're low on money wait for a sale. Otherwise get it now. In both cases, playing [i][b]Mystery Expedition: Prisoners of Ice[/b][/i] is a nice way to entertain a few hours.

I liked the game until the last part where the jigsaw puzzles were suddenly no longer an option, and the ending was really abrupt and didn't solve anything. Still, I had fun for 80% of the time.

Mildly recommended if it's compatible with your current operating system. The game dates from 2015, and I see from the unanswered questions in the discussion section that some people have had trouble. As a hidden object game, the formula is fairly predictable, but the setting is novel, a shipwreck in the Arctic under heavy weather and further burdened with some curse or other because someone violated the space of the native inhabitants. So the environment is somewhat spooky and there are a few encounters with bad guys who tried to hijack the expedition, whom you ultimately defeat in a cutscene at the end. By the way that cutscene was quite interesting, but for some reason I had no sound at that point, so it didn't make the intended dramatic impression.
