!!!Major Note!!!: There will be very small spoilers in this review. This is my first Time playing a MH game. I'm not usually one to play action/RPG/Fantasy/Co-op games. Greetings new monster hunter, if your seeing this, This is a good (idk about good) review to consider getting Monster Hunter World. For beginning thoughts, I really should say this game isn't for the weak as you will face many many challenges throughout the campaign and other monster hunting stuff. I will also say, this is the only Monster Hunter Game I have played from the MH series, however I am slightly familiar with the MH franchise. Pros: - The environments are absolutely bright, wonderful, and amazing to be in. - Character customization (how you look) is very detailed and took me about 30 minutes to make - The theme of this game (and the other MH games) is very nice and is a unique take on fantasy in general. - The Monsters (new or/and old) have the most unique names, designs, and powers/abilities I've seen in a long time. - The armor designs from said monsters are probably my most favorite armor designs in general of all time (This is saying a lot because I love sci-fi much more than fantasy). - All weapons are equally balanced throughout the progression of the campaign. - Each Weapon fits a very different playstyle, and seeing how there is more than 10 different weapons, your sure to have a variety. - Weapon designs are as good as the armor sets/pieces. - The part of the Community I have seen has been very nice to me, they are veterans, newbies, or just another player like me. - The Campaign's story seems semi-bland at first, however I had an appreciation for it after finishing it. - You can get around 20-50 hours from the campaign alone depending on how fast you like to complete games and stuff. - The NPCs are very cool. - The music gets somewhat repetitive into the later game, however, there are still some songs that are very nice to listen to. - The ending for the main campaign is very memorable, with it almost making me tear up after all the time I put in. (around 55 hours... I know, I'm very emotional) - The game is so good I've been recommending it to my father (to play it again) and my friends. - I did get this game on Sale so watch out for those precious steam sales. Cons: - Apparently, this is one of the more "easier" titles from the Monster Hunter franchise. - I don't think I should be comparing this to a souls-like game (as I've never played one), but there has been moments where its simply dodging, dodging, and more dodging. - Some Monsters will absolutely combo your ahh, which makes me very upset :( , but there's this thing called getting good, which I have achieved. - Parts of the story have major difficulty spikes, which take me by surprise, then I get killed. - Some of the fans of MH seem to be split up on the decisions the devs have made, but I don't really care. - Unfortunately the female armor is much more revealing and not protective looking, this kind of makes me feel bad for the lady's of this fanbase as their equipment (armor-wise) is much more sexualized as where the guy armor is actual proper armor. - One of the two companions you have throughout this game has made me cringe on multiple occasions and is simply just not fun to hear her talk at all. Other thoughts: I'm going to be writing a review on the DLC, as there is also a large amount of content on that as well. Currently as of typing this review I have finished the DLC with about 90.8 hours onto a single save with the character named after myself.
GOAT
this game is an absolute blast 100% get it! it can be hard and tough at times but its such a fun game with so so so much content!
Returning to a hunt after years of my last monster hunter game feels amazing. Really missed these types of games.
I love the game and the mechanics, but I hate that it is an online interface, all I want is a pause button when playing solo, I had to restart missions because I need to take care of urgent things while playing
Nearly beat all of Iceborne before my cat took a piss on my ps4, now I'm starting over and trying things other than my beloved insect glaive and still having a blast. I don't care how old this game gets, pretty sure I'm gonna be playing it till I'm dead.
