About

Begin your adventure aboard your personal, giant voidship, traveling between the multitude of systems within the Koronus Expanse, a barely charted and incredibly perilous region of space. Despite being considered a backwater of the Imperium, this region encompasses an enormous stretch of the void, filled with dangerous creatures and prodigious opportunities for profit and exploration.

Rogue Traders never travel alone. Gather your retinue of righteous heroes, twisted psykers, and perfidious xenos. All of them are ready to follow you into the darkness between the stars. They will offer you counsel, aid you in battle, and allow you to amass ever more power. In return, you can guide them through their own personal journeys, changing their destinies forever.

During quests show your subjects mercy or disdain, stay faithful to the God-Emperor, or consort with enemies of Mankind - your every decision and every act, even in character creation, is changing the in-game open world and those who inhabit it.

Slaughter the enemies of Mankind in a fully-fledged isometric turn-based tactical combat. Take advantage of cover, the environment, and careful positioning to overpower your enemies. When that is not enough - use your companion`s powerful abilities to turn the tide of battle and achieve victory even in the direst of situations. Our video game adaption of the classic Rogue Trader ruleset allows an enormous number of possibilities for you to explore.

Once upon a time Owlcat tried to make an extra buck from their fanbase by putting spyware in WotR so they could sell their marketing data to make more money and people rioted against it and they ran it back. Failing to learn that lesson Owlcat has now created a launcher whose job is to rake your computer for market data so they can sell it to make a buck. For those saying its ok you can turn it off in the settings, well you cannot run the game.exe without the launcher, if you turn off the launcher it runs in secret in the background and killing the task kills the whole game from running so this launcher is in effect digital aids. I am done with Owlcat because fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me.
NOTE: They rolled back the launcher. I will change this to a positive review IF AND ONLY IF Dark Heresy doesn't have one. This was an excellent game until this morning when they introduced a launcher. Then they 'creatively interpreted the truth' and said it was 'optional' - while it still runs in the background. Do not buy the game. Do not buy Dark Heresy. Do not pay a dime to them until they stop being disingenuous about what they're doing on your computer.
It's just a perfect CRPG in space. This is what KotOR sequels should have been. Owlcat, please get a Star Wars license and make a game set in the Expanded Universe, away from disney sequel and high republic nonsense!
Owlcat would rather spend resources on creating a launcher that nobody wants than on adding features such as dlss or updated fsr. Fix bugs or add steam workshop support? No, here is a useless and annoying launcher instead. Apparently gamers love launchers so much...
Let me preface it with this: game itself is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ great - if you give it like 4 years until all DLC's come out and a year or two to let them fix all the bugs before you dig in. But oh boy they're just a soulless corporate machine that wants nothing more than to make a quick buck off of you. Forcing launchers and saying that it's for our own good and will be so so helpful for both players and developers is such an obvious corpo speach it makes me sick. Better just "find" *wink* *wink* it somewhere for free or wait for 90% discount, because they don't deserve your money if they treat you like a money bag.
Owlcat knock it out of the park again, but also whack themselves in the face with the bat. It's kind of admirable to be so consistent in both ambition and mistakes. As with Pathfinder, the setting is nailed. All the weird and bizarre quirks of 40k are explored in fine detail, with a great balance between grim dark grandness, over the top personalities, but also a human grounding. Most media is hyper focused on Space Marines yelling battle cries at each other, but Rogue Trader manages to look past that and create probably the best setting in a 40k video game. The combat and character building will be hit or miss depending on whether you enjoy the mechanical heft of the systems involved. The level up system is still easily overwhelming, but there is satisfaction to be gained from figuring out how all the various and near endless mechanics interact with each other when the action does happen. Having Argenta fire a heavy bolter into a crowd of enemies and see the crits and bodyparts fly never gets old. There's a lot to this game. So if you do play expect to have to look things up online, and honestly first time round if you're paralyzed by the levelling choices - just look up a guide and follow along. While the game's difficulty is much less severe than Pathfinder, it's still worth trying to figure out what works. If you can get your teeth sunk into it, it's an incredible game. If you can't, you'll wonder what all the fuss was about.
The best entry point into the 40k universe and a fantastic crpg as a whole. 10/10
Before beginning my very first playthrough of Rogue Trader I had only ever played one other Owlcat game (Pathfinder Kingmaker) And my knowledge overall on the 40K universe and lore was not the best so It was a intimidating thought going into this game at first. But Rogue Trader does a fantastic job at explaining the universe and themes without feeling overwhelming or slow. I really found myself immersed into it all in only a couple of hours and playing it alongside my Girlfriend at the time made the experience even more enjoyable and fun. The cooperative elements of the campaign work well but there was some moments when the game only allows the host to take part in critical and key parts of the main story which did feel a bit underwhelming and takes away from the cooperative nature of it all. Combat encounters always felt intense and engaging and using voice comms to guide our party of six characters through disasters and threats always felt rewarding when you get outnumbered and have to use strategy and teamwork to live to fight another day. So far I haven't even touched the DLC content but from talking to other friends about them I have heard positive things so I am very excited to do a second playthrough and get introduced to new questlines and companions and explore more of what Rogue Trader has to offer. Overall the amount of time I spent on this game should give a big indication on how much enjoyment and depth you can get out of Rogue Trader so I can highly recommend it if you are looking for a extremely well written adventure both solo or with friends!
