I'm not sure what to think about this game. I played and loved the first one, and this is mostly just the same thing, so I guess I should love it, but something about it feels lacking. Like, there just isn't enough new and exciting things about this game to really constitute a sequel. It could have been a DLC map or something instead. It feels like the largest amount of things that were added were just decorations that I really have no interest in. The map in this game is extremely busy and confusing, without many ways to help you traverse. I have spent hours just running around in circles looking for statues that require a particular plort and never finding it until I have given the plort away. They don't even appear on the map, which sucks. Aside from those things, the majority of the game remains the same. Almost all slimes are exactly the same as in the first game, the mechanics are unchanged, the ranch having designated corral spots is the same, the market is the same, you unluck more areas to expand the ranch just like the first game, and they generally look about the same. Normally, I would say more of the same is great, but in this instance, it just kinda feels like you're replaying the first game over again with very minor changes. Like a new game +. I'm going to say I don't recommend this game, but there really isn't anything particularly wrong with it. More so, I just think you should buy one or the other instead of both. So if you came here from the first game looking for something more, it's just not worth it. If you have never played slime rancher, then go for it. It's the same as the first one, so buy either of them, just not both. EDIT: I figured out why this game feels so different from the first. The entire point of both of these games is to catch slimes, bring them to your ranch, raise them, and collect their plorts. The plorts are then sold for money, and the money is used to purchase upgrades to your farm and character. At least, that's how the first game worked. In this game, the money means almost nothing. You can't upgrade your character, build decorations, or complete the game using the currency... which means... why ranch the slimes at all? The game actively forces you to not ranch and to run around exploring the map for hours on end looking for materials that you can't grow on your ranch. They removed the Rancher from Slime Rancher! If they removed the science materials entirely, got rid of all the slimes and stuff you can't raise on your ranch, and made the ending obtainable with plorts and money, the whole game would have been so much more amazing!
Ahh Slime Rancher 2: The Final Solution electric boogaloo. I had no idea you could just slap a cute coat of blobs on a Holocaust simulator. Pokémon is dark. Slime Rancher is unsettling. It’s like slavery in cute version form. Pokemon can be said to be comprised of kids enslaving animals and forcing them to fight each other cockfighting-ring style. The Slime Rancher series is not that much different. The Slime Rancher games look like nice games where you just go around catching slimes as if they were Pokémon and feeding them. Well, that's not the case. These are games where you steal everything you can from the environment because you still don't have enough money to upgrade your farms. It is a game that teaches us that multiculturalism is bad and will lead to hideous monsters, and you can finish that thought as I don't want to be canceled for saying too much. The truth is the slimes in these games are genocidal maniacs who seek to destroy everything living that is not them. I once went out to collect hens because farming them is a pain. Well, as soon as I got to one, a slime ate it. Upon further discovery, a slime was somehow able to get up to the hen's nest and eat everything but the babies. These games say Chickadoos are too cute to kill, but in reality, the slimes just enjoy watching the chickadoos run in absolute terror after watching their parents get eaten. Capitalism at its finest folks. This s*hit can be just like the furry community sometimes, and I'm not sure if I should love or hate it. Slime Rancher 2 in particular is overall extremely good, especially after the post 1.0 balance patch they did that reduced some major grind aspects that people had issues with. I think the main reasons a lot of people were mixed on it is because in terms of gameplay, it's a lot more focused on exploration and resource gathering than SR1 was, and it's also MUCH more intensive on story and lore than SR1 was, so there's a bit of friction with people who liked SR1 for being cozy, genocidal and casual. To me it makes sense as a sequel though, it wants to be far more story driven than SR1 was, and in terms of gameplay it wants to stick out a bit instead of being the exact same as the first game. It's still got that same vibe and feel, but it tries to engage you far more than SR1 does, which again may feel a bit off if you're used to the laid back genocide and cozy vibes of the first game instead. I do think the ranching in the game is a little undercooked though, it's practically the same as SR1 which is nice, but also makes it a bit tedious because there's a lack of depth to it, and nothing new shaking things up, especially considering that certain upgrades for certain plot buildings are missing. But even then, the stronger focus on exploration makes up for it a bit because you're not spending your time on the ranch most of the time anyways. I think it's one of the most genuine sequels in a long time. They've taken a lot of the core elements and continued them on, it preserves the spirit, the genocide, the sheer joy of the first game. It's a lot more interactive, which can be a tough thing to grind out, but once you unlock drones it's not a big deal at all. Yeah this game like the first one comments on the flaws and evils of capitalism, and not many people are ready to hear that, but it's still just a game about raising slimes so I still highly recommend it. Really think it through before buying though. I bought it and now I can't stop with the genocide. I was just going to play it sometimes as a one off. Boy did that go well... please help me. Finally, whenever you feel powerless, worthless and unworthy, just remember, one single poop of yours can shut down an entire water park. 8/10

SR2 is the prettiest disappointment I've ever seen. It's like what if Monomi park said "what if we made everything gorgeous... and then forgot to add a game?" The story hypes up Gigi, then yeets her out of existence. The ranching loop is basically a chore simulator, and the amount of lag this causes, don't get me started. The slimes look happy (besides at 1 of my ranch's) but I'm not. Even at 40% off, this wasn't worth the price. it's a glitter covered void with cute slimes sprinkled on top. I wish I could refund this, uninstall it, and send the Prismacore back through time so this sequel never happened.
This game is very calming and cute. Depending on the pace you wanna go or slow. For someone who is AuDHD, its sensory friendly (if you do not have photosensitivity). I can adjust the settings to how I want/need it to be. The graphics are great and the designs are very cute. I have been a fan of Slime Rancher for years, and the second game (this one obviously) is my favorite by far.
